1.
love it... this can replace my current keyholder.
This may actually be the very best thing I have ever seen in my whole life!!!!
2.
But I've got 3 sets of keys?
Here you go:
3. I find that mentioning I want one to my wife soon negates any possibility of my ever actually getting one. In fact this seems to work for any gear I might have GAS for!
4.
That is sounds good cannot be doubted. It's when they try to explain why it sounds good that the garbage comes out...
Personally I don't see why they don't just admit that it's the magic pixie dust they impregnate the driver cones with that makes it sound so good instead of spouting all that made up silliness and nonsense.
5. Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna take a punt on the VT Bass - as discreet says it is 'that' Ampeg sound I'm looking for (thought you might have some input here Discreet as I've seen you praising both units on various threads before). Might still look to pick up BDI 21 later as a back up though as they do still seem pretty good
6. I know these are both technically effects pedals but in this case I'm talking about using them as the primary preamp stage (specifically going straight into the power amp in socket on an amp head) which is why I've posted this in here. Basically, next week I will be buying one or the other of these units to do just that with my old Ampeg as the preamp section is dead but happily the power stage is totally fine. I also tried it with my EHX Bass Metaphors at my gig this weekend and it sounded great - just not very Ampegy. So I've narrowed it down to these two units but, given that the VT Bass used is around 4 times the price of the BDI21 new, is it just the gear snob in me drawing me to the VT Bass? If it is say 10% better (and I'm guessing the mid control alone could very well account for that much) then for me it justifies the extra cost but I was hoping for some input from anyone who has used both before I jump in.
7. Had a bit of a reshuffle and added a couple more pedals but I've now overflowed. The second 'board' (okay so it's actually the lid from an old rack case I had lying around) on the left is actually acting as the main preamp section driving a power amp.
8. Cool thanks. Basically, at last night's gig, I tried running my EHX Bass Metaphors (which has a line level out) straight into the power amp in on my old Ampeg head as the preamp in it is fried. It worked really well as an experiment but it seems logical that a VT Bass would be better suited tonally.
9. Basically I'm wondering if the VT Bass pedal is able to drive a power amp. I know the VT Bass DI will do it but can't seem to find anything online to say if the standard pedal can.
10. Just received a little Mooer Yellow Comp pedal in the post from petetexas. Posted out and received really quickly and very well packed after a quick easy and pleasant transaction. Deal with confidence.

Just bought a noise gate pedal from the esteemed Mr Skankdelvar and he genuinely could not have been more helpful, pleasant or communicative throughout. The pedal was also posted out very promptly and was received the next day (although to be fair, credit for that particular aspect of the transaction may actually lie more with the royal mail ). Deal with absolute confidence.
12.
I think I'll be alone in this, but I much preferred the Bass Metaphors over anything else. Sounds really sweet to my ears! Good resource, thanks OP!
Nope not alone. I have one that I got recently and I love it. This reinforced for me just how good it can sound! Again, great resource!
13. Now bidding on an isolated PSU on eBay so fingers crossed.
14. At the moment I'm just using the compression in my EHX Metaphors (but planning to order something better this week) and to be honest it is a pretty squashy effect which could have something to do with it. Was planning to have a bit of a play with the trim pots inside later today anyway so maybe that will help a bit? Also to be fair, the power supply I'm using for the time being isn't isolated either (it's really just a fancy daisy chain but with a couple of variable voltage outputs to be honest) but there's no noticeable noise at all without the compressor engaged. Would running the compressor off a separate PSU be likely to make any difference if it is still running of the same mains supply?
15. Right. You lot have got me properly upset now! A couple of months ago I bought 2 BVT4500 heads for £100 each - each one to drive it's own cab as one of my cabs is 4ohms so I was hard pushed to find a single head for that money that would run them both - and they do sound pretty good to be fair. Bargain I thought! I was happy! Content! Gas free even!!! Then this thread shows up and I find out I could have got one of these for just £150 more!?! Well I hope you're all very proud of yourselves.... Now I've got to explain to my wife why I'm putting all the kids Christmas presents that we'd bought so far on eBay!!! Anybody want to buy a dolls house and a scooter?
16. I'm currently dabbling a bit with compression and really liking the effect I'm getting so far but unfortunately I am getting a fair bit of noise with it which, while it is to be expected to some extent, is obviously something I'd rather not have, so I've been thinking about adding a gate. My question is, would it be better placed before the compressor to get rid of any noise in the signal before it gets to the compressor, or afterwards to clean up the noise which the compressor has already exaggerated?
17. So this is my first attempt at putting together a board. Order probably dictated as much by how I could got them all on as anything but -for what it's worth signal chain is:- EHX Crying Bass Wah > Bespeco Volume > EHX Steel Leather > EHX Bass Metaphors > EHX Bass Soul Food > EHX Metal Muff > EBS Octabass > Joyo Roll Boost > Snark Tuner > (Aphex Bass Xciter at amp end). The Metaphors is handling compression duties at the moment until I can get something a bit more controllable - although the effect I'm getting from the preset comp in this pedal I actually really like anyway so we'll see. The plan for the Metal Muff is to put it in a blendable looper to mix with the dry signal as it does suck out the low end, but for now adding in the Octabass set with the range set to low and the octave dialed in just a touch, is giving me back a few of the missing sub-harmonics. So,for a first attempt, how did I do?
18. What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians? A drummer.
19. Just received the EBS Octabass pedal I bought from Harry and I have to say, it couldn't have been an easier smoother or more pleasant transaction.
20. More of the positive stuff above from me. Just bought an EHX Steel Leather pedal from Lloyd and it couldn't have been easier. Great com's throughout and was posted out (and received) really quickly. Top bloke! Painy
