Really can't believe this bass doesn't get more interest! Having played this bass myself, I have to say this is an absolutely insane price for what is a fantastic pro instrument - great to play and Pat's description of it as a tone monster is actually a big understatement! Have a bump on me mate and GLWTS!

Tomorrow should be new bass day! (Parcelforce permitting)
I to have been down this road ..I've spent thousands looking for that "perfect bass"..I'm not sure there is such a beast ?.. I have a fernandes Gravity deluxe ..Sandberg California ...schecter precision and a ibanez atk...all very diffrnt styles of bass but all suit my mood swings it's a dangerous game ....but I still regret selling my USA sub ..id have another then I'm done ...probably not .
To be fair mate, the amount of times I've heard you say how happy you were with a bass only for you to turn up at practice with something else you traded it for, I'll be surprised if your list stays the same for very long Personally I still like that first Mayones Jabba you had - although I'd have the Schecter off you quite happily too
This is probably the cheapest one ive found.
I reckon this could be a winner. Dave Hall stuff seems pretty well liked around here, it's made in the UK and I kinda like the whole Sharpie scribble on a biscuit tin vibe too!
That's the good thing about some of the bass specific distortion pedals, you can blend the effected sound and clean sound, keeping the lows.
I have a Bass Soul Food which has a blend and it does work really well (although I use it always on for a bit of gritty warmth). I also have a Behringer bass overdrive which also has a blend control. That however doesn't make it onto my pedal board - mainly as the sound is just ever so slightly horribly dreadfully unusably Sh*te (IMO of course). The Metal Muff just has a certain something in the way it distorts - a certain timbre that's hard to describe - that I really like.

I had considered that as the ideal option and found this on eBay but I seem to have spent all my money on effects pedals and a pedal board this month already so if anyone can suggest a cheaper version of this I'd be interested to hear about it!?

I have recently been building up a pedal board as I've been missing having a few effects on tap and this week got to use my new EHX Metal Muff Pedal (bought on here in a very pleasant transaction from Fretmeister). Now, for my needs at least, the distortion is perfect but - as with most distortion pedals designed for guitar -I'm losing a lot of low end. My question is, could I compensate effectively by using it alongside an outboard preamp to boost the bass frequencies? My concerns though are that any boost in low frequency before the Metal Muff may still be sucked out as they pass through it or, alternatively, that if the preamp is placed after the distortion there are no low frequencies left for it to boost? Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

After what was a very pleasant communication process - buying an EXH Metal Muff pedal from Paul - it arrived today excellently packaged and working perfectly. Can't recommend him highly enough. A thoroughly pleasant chap to deal with!

I think that looks really nice! Nah.... Only joking,I actually think it looks weird. I was just trying to be controversial

Thanks for the replys guys. Given me a few ideas.Unfortunately any attempt by me to construct one out of components from a schematic is almost guaranteed to result in certain death for anyone foolish enough to connect a cable to it! I think Bigwan may have come up with a winner though. I'll have a look into it .

Cool, I'll check it out. Thanks again!
-
Sounds good thanks.Don't suppose you'd have any specific recommendations - ideally in pedal form and for under £100 if possible?
free shipping listed all the way though the buying process until checkout?? (£4.90) the same on a lot of there gear.bit missleading
Hmmm. So it actually is too good to be true then. Mind you,the shipping costs are still less than from Thomann. I think all things considered though I'll probably just continue to use GAK for smaller orders that don't get free delivery from Thomann.
Ha yes, but you no-one's making you buy anything, are they..?
Now none of that. We all come here to have our GAS enabled, not to hear comments like that thank you very much!

I found it helped even things out nicely -particularly my somewhat poor slap technique which I often find makes the slaps quieter than the pops (I know I should work on my technique really but I don't use it much and I'm inherently lazy). I also liked the way it tightened up the bottom end giving it a bit more definition and punch. The demos I've heard of the Steel Leather pedal were set with a bit more effect than I'd probably use myself but the defined attack it seems to give would work well for me too.

The initial search is okay if you look for a specific item so okay if you know exactly what you're looking for but definitely not great for browsing. To be fair though, I do find browsing on musical equipment sites to be a very dangerous pastime anyway!

I'm currently in the process of building a pedal board as I've been missing the option of having a few effects available since I got rid of my bass Pod XT-Pro a few years ago. So far I have an EHX crying bass wah (not the best regarded I know but I'm finding the low pass filter to actually be a pretty good feature and I like the feel of it under foot - and most importantly, I got it cheap), an old Bespecco volume/swell pedal, a Bass Soul Food (loving this for an always on warm bit of grit), a Joyo Roll Boost (just a nice transparent, clean volume boost) and a Snark tuner pedal. I also have a Metal Muff on its way for when I need things to get a little crazy. Now I've never been one for compression in the past but tried a compressor out at a gig a couple of months ago and I actually quite liked it so thinking it might be worth adding one to my board. I've also been looking at the Steel Leather pedal and it looks like a cool effect that I could make use of but I'm wondering how the two might interact with each other given that the Steel Leather is apparently described as "the opposite of a compressor". My question really is, are they likely to compliment each other, just cancel each other out or something completely different?

Just found an online music retailer bax-shop.co.uk I haven't come across before and wondered if anyone on here had any experience of them. I cross referenced a few prices with Thomann and they seem to be at least comparable. The best bit though is that they're based in the UK so seem to be offering free UK mainland delivery within 2 working days! Could mean no more ordering extra bits you don't really need just to get the free delivery from Thomann.
Have you been a bit cheeky with the badges?
I'm afraid I have. I like the look of a matched stack and while I did consider re-badging the cabs as Behringer, I opted for this in the end
-
This. Obviously I'm only using one of the heads at home but the cab is 4ohm so drawing the full 450W (hence the need for a second head to power my other cab when gigging). As others here have said, I just turn it down.
