1. Davetbass: thanks for the compliment. Not in an attic, it's been rehearsed and gigged quite a bit by me at least. I think it's just bombproof, to be honest. Maybe it's just a lucky bass. You're very welcome to pop through from the capital to have a noodle if you like, just for fun times, like, not to buy. Steve-soar: thanks, thanks very much. You've no idea how hard it is to find someone prepared to restore, and not just replace the leather on, art deco chairs with pressed motifs. Just a nightmare! Right, that's quite enough Good Housekeeping chat [coughs deeply, a la a Python lumberjack]. M
2. I'm selling my black Precision. It's an S9 serial number bass, which means it's from 1979 to 1981. This is a cracker of a bass, it's got the trademark Precision thump and feels just lovely in your hands, really solid and even and beautifully put together. It's black with a black scratchplate and a maple fingerboard. It's in smashing condition, no major dents or scrapes or anything. The neck is beautiful, straight and with no issues at all. The action goes lovely and low and the neck has that broad, flat, comforting feeling the good Precisions have. This is not the world's lightest bass. Like many Precisions of the era it's on the heavy side. I don't find it a problem, I rehearse with it for three hours at a time no problem and gig with it without an issue. But if you need a lightweigh bass, this isn't for you. The upside of that, though, is that it's got a great big thumping tone, it feels solid and plays beautifully and sounds superb. It's a wrench to sell this, but I've sprung for another one and this one has to shuffle out the door to make fiscal room for it. So there we are. It's in Glasgow, £950 plus shipping. 3. Would you be prepared to sell the neck seperately? I might be interested if so, Matthew
4. Hi, welcome to the forum. As luck would have it I'm about to start selling my black Precision. 1979 model, about £950, if you're interested. I'm in Glasgow so you can even come and play it to see if you want it, which is a nice luxury. Matthew
5. I just bought a JV Precision from Simon. It's a corker, exactly as described and the transaction couldn't have been easier or more pleasant. Highly recommended, Matthew
6. Hello, would you consider shipping this? I've a friend may be interested if you are shipping it and if Steve, who got first dibs on it shipped, now doesn't want it, Matthew
This is still for sale..I was considering keeping it as it is agood one, but no it has to go. Cheers Neil
7. Russ bought my MIJ Jazz; he was a straightforward, fast-paying, keen and interested buyer, a delight to deal with, Matthew
8. If it's any help I once took a successful small claim through the Sheriff Court and it's easy and cheap and the courts service really tries to help you - the whole process is designed for people who are not lawyers. I have no legal training or anything, and even I managed it. It will all depend on what you have documenting the transaction, but as you seem to have quite a lot of that it should be fine. I can't recommend it highly enough. Matthew
9. Had good interest but a couple of fall-throughs, so this is still available, thanks, Matthew
10. I bought a 1973 jazz body from Chris and, what with one thing and another, it ended up being quite a tricky transaction. Problems emerged at all sorts of stages and I am sure they would, for some, have been insurmountable. Chris, though, was friendly, patient, accomodating and did everything he could to help find a solution to the problems that arose. He was extremely generous with his time in getting the bass ready, way above and beyond the call of duty. And when there were a few problems once it arrived - which were caused in transit despite the bass being perfectly well packed - he was again a gent in helping to get it sorted. We can all be good eggs when everything goes smoothly but when this one hit some snags Chris did everything he could to get it sorted. It was hugely appreciated, thanks Chris, Matthew
11. This is no longer on hold, so is available again, thanks, Matthew
12. This is now on hold for a buyer until the weekend, thanks, Matthew
13. For sale is a great looking, lovely sounding 1989 or 1990 Japanese Fender Jazz. This is a 1962 reissue, is relatively light, has a red tortoiseshell scratchplate and sounds fantastic. This had a full service and set up earlier this year. It had a new nut fitted and brand new pots and electrics, since the ones that were in it matched the active pickups a previous owner had installed. It is fitted with Fender pickups from a Mexican Jazz. It's from 1989 or 1990 [the serial number is H plus six digits, which covers both years]. This is a great bass that will make someone very happy, but as I say the pickups and electrics are not original. Also, a previous owner has drawn lines on the back of the neck in four places, perhaps as some kind of fret marker. They are faint but are still visible. Because of this it's for sale at a pretty reasonable £340, plus postage if you can't collect from Glasgow. It'll be securely packed in a gig bag. I'm in Glasgow, and anyone is very welcome to come and try it out. Cheers, Matthew
14. When I used to play the violin the cello teacher who coached my string quartet did exactly this. He strung a cello backwards and started to learn left handed to give himself a better idea of what it felt like to be a beginner with an alien-feeling instrument. He did it better to understand his pupils' needs. Now that's dedication. Good luck if you do try it, M
Blimey, I have enough problems playing with my natural hand let alone swapping over.
15. Bought a pickup from Keith, came nicely packed and exactly as described, I wouldn't hesitate to do a deal with him again, thanks, Matthew
16. it sounds like a scam to me. I got a few of these when I advertised a bass on gumtree - the responses always talked about 'the item' rather than exactly what I was selling, leading me to think it was just spam spewed out to every ad to try and get personal details or whatever else it is spammers make loot from. I'd avoid unless you can check it out thoroughly, M
17. That was all tremendously helpful, thanks. The courier [Parceline, booked via interparcel: £50 odd to get to Spain, I thought that wasn't bad] had the same price right up to 19kg, so I just put in 19, just in case. Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated, M
18. I hope you can help me to book a courier: how much, roughly, does a bass in a hard case weigh? I'm just looking for a ballpark to book the courier service with. It's a Ric 4003, so not the heaviest of basses, and it's a bog-standard case, so I suppose slightly on the heavy side, not a slinky ultra-modern one. If you could let me know what your packed basses have weighed that would be a great help, I don't have scales, thanks a million, Matthew

Dave was helpful, fast and efficient. Thanks!
20. Hello, just wondering have I completely mispriced this, has the shop I consulted about value just got it completely wrong? I'd appreciate any views, particularly from anyone who might want it, but at a lower price. I'm perfectly open to the idea that I've just got it wrong. There's been a deathly silence on this thread, which suggests I might. Thanks, Matthew
21. I play a 4003 with my fingers. Either I play on the neck side of the pick up cover and the thumb flies free, or I play between the pick up cover and the bridge and rest my thumb on the pick up cover. If you do decide to go for one I have one for sale here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43797 All the best, Matthew
22. Hello, I am selling a 1995 Rickenbacker 4003S in Mapleglo. It's in super condition and has clearly been well looked after, and sounds fantastic. It is all original apart from the neck pickup, which was replaced with a Seymour Duncan by a previous owner, who also painted the scratch plate and truss rod cover red. There are a couple of tiny marks here and there as you'd expect from a 13 year old instrument, but they are very hard to see and don't even come up in pictures. There are a couple around the jack socket, whose shiny metal is a little cracked, but I've included a close up picture so that you can see even here they're negligible. I had it valued by Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow [they do Franz Ferdinand's intsruments and the like], who said it should get £1300. I'm not entirely convinced in the current climate, so am looking for £1100. Do let me know by PM, though, if you think the pricing is way out, I'm not an expert by any means. This was bought in New York a couple of years ago and is lovely, but I just don't think I'm a Ric person. Thanks for your time, do get in touch with any questions you might have, and I have a few feedbacks here you can check out, yours, Matthew
23. Bought a Dave Hall pre-amp from Rob, came quickly, all was well, M
24. Hi, whereabouts are you? I'm in Glasgow and am maybe interested in the precision, M
