Wiring a wah wah

Excellent, that's a great help, thanks, M
You might have more joy on the General Guitar Gadgets website / forum - or Geofex http://www.geofex.com/ or try here: http://www.diyguitarist.com/DIYStompboxes/WahTrueBypass.htm
Wiring a wah wah

Hello, keen to revisit Cliff Burton's wah-tastic bass solos I have dug out my ancient, Italian-made Crybaby wah pedal. Only trouble is, two wires are flapping about unconnected and I've no idea where they should be connected. And I know nothing about pedals and how they're put together. I was hoping someone here might have a working wah wah pedal that they could take a picture of the insides of, and post them here. Then perhaps I could try and guess where the wires go. I'd really appreciate it, thanks, Matthew
6. I adore Steve Harris and more or less learned to play to Maiden records as a spotty youth. I use TI flats on a late 70s/early 80s Precision in the ridiculous anthemic cock rock band I play in [we dress up as Vikings, that's all you really need to know] and I get an absolutely cracking sound out of them. I fully intend to leave them on for 15 years, no 'arry style nightly change for me. To get a rock/Harris clunk you have to use the EQ fairly hard, but once you've found the sound you need you can rely on it almost forever because the strings don't change their sound every month like rounds do. So you might have to work harder to get your sound, but once you've got it it's yours. Last gig we did I was playing into my own Hartke bass head with the valve being a little bit overdriven and into a borrowed Ampeg cab and I've never had closer to exactly the sound I wanted, it was great.
7. Neil, I had a Stingray that had a neck nearly identical to that that was from the same date range the other guys are talking about. It was a 1989, hope that helps, Matthew
Hi Neil, From the photo. it looks like the 'ray you tried had a birdseye maple neck on it. I have one which I believe dates to early '90's (1991 I think). I'm not sure how long these were made for. Here's a piccie of mine just to confirm. Cheers, Jim http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o294/fl...riganddevil.jpg
8. Just concluded a deal on a cab with Rumour6 (Andy) and he was a top chap to deal with. An unforeseen issue arose and he dealt with it like a real gent, couldn't have been more helpful or co-operative. I'd buy from him any time, Matthew
9. This advice has all been brilliant. Thanks so much for your time. I take on board all the advice querying why I'd want to do it at all. So I'll probably just get the valve-y preamp tone and, as suggested, do the eq afterwards, on an old outboard eq box I've got. Thanks everyone for your help, Matthew
10. Hello, I wonder if someone might be able to help. I bought an amp head that doesn't have a DI - a Hartke HA2000. There are times when I want to record its sound [on a Protools rig on a PC] but don't want to wake up the neighbours downstairs by mic-ing a cab. Sadly the effects send loop is pre-eq, so is no good for getting the full sound I want. Is there anything I can do to use the sound from the speaker outs? Would plugging those into a recording rig just blow it up? Is there anything I can run it through first to take the power out of it to get a usable sound? The Hartke has a valve pre-amp but a solid state power amp. Any tips gratefully received, thanks, Matthew
11. My ridiculous cock-rock anthem band [we dress up as vikings - really] had our first gig in months on Saturday. Pokey room above a pub, drummer too drunk to remember what song it was and had to be babysat by me, playing through a tiny combo and couldn't hear a note, but - it was by far our best ever gig. I'm pretty sure we were musically, ah, less than perfect, but the place was rammed and they went mental. And - we had our first ever crowd surfers! It was truly a proud moment, I had to share. M
12. Just finished a trade with Steve and it went perfectly. He was a great help to me in knowing how to pack the bass at my end and everything happened how and when it should have. Smashing
13. Now traded with Steve's Black Precision, which means I might be selling my v63 Rickenbacker shortly if anyone's interested, thanks for all the nice comments and interest.
14. This is now on the bay, though I'll happily end the auction for a sale to a basschatter.
15. Thanks for the compliments guys, it's very nice to hear.
16. Hey Keir, thanks for the nice comments. It's a cracker alright, I just feel like a change to something a little less powerful and ballsy really. The Jazz I got is a thing of wonder and beauty, I couldn't be happier, but I did the dumbass thing and bought it before selling the Stingray, so the Jazz might have to go if the Stingray doesn't shift. The Jazz is lovely though: clear, even, woody sound. I put some Thomasik flatwounds on it and it sounds like honey. Sigh. Let me know if you come up with that plan! But thanks for the nice comments, cheers, Mathew
Hi Matthew,we corresponded by email about this bass a few weeks back.I still dont have the cash for it but it is THE StingRay I want. And you being so close too. I'm going to need to hatch a plan and quick. :brow: best of luck with the sale.its a beauty! Keir btw how you getting on with the MIA Jazz RI?
17. Edit 1/10.08: This has now been traded for Steve's lovely Black Precision. Which means I might be selling a v63 Rickenbacker shortly if anyone's interested. Ah, the big bass shuffle, it's very complicated. ____ Hello, I'm looking to move on my lovely 1989 Stingray. It's a translucent blueburst wiith a rosewood fingerboard and that powerful trademark Stingray sound. I've owned this since new. The serial indicates it's 1989 but I bought it new in about 1991 from Sound Control in Dunfermline, so it must have been lying in the store room for a couple of years. It's had some gigging in that time, but also quite a few years resting in its case. It's in excellent condition, but not mint - there are a couple of nicks to the lacquer and some wear on the back, but nothing through to the wood, plus a small bit of strapwear that is through to the wood [see pics] - just what you'd expect from normal use. I've tried to get close up body pics but any marks are really too small for the camera to pick up. I know this is a less than optimal time to be selling a 'ray, but I'm looking for £750-800 because of its age and a finish that I believe is relatively unusual [that's my understanding anyway - if not do let me know]. I know that's not what more recent ones have been going for on here but I thought I'd put it up and see if it just happened to be exactly what someone has been longing for. Comes with hard case [not MM one, I feel cheated now, I never got one], will post if buyer covers the cost. I'm in Glasgow, and anyone is welcome to come and try it out. Thanks for your time, Matthew
18. Hello, I was hoping you guys could help me. The important thing to know here is that I am scared of amps, and dozy. The word 'ohm' makes me tremble, talk of impedance give me the yips. I have always spent my loot on instruments not amps since I rarely gig with my own set up, so I still have the Peavey TNT 130 I had as a mere child. Last night I carelessly went out and bought a Hartke HA2000 head from a rehearsal studio that was selling them off cause I thought: when else am I going to get a head with a valve in it for £80? I don't have a cab, though, and I'm wondering can I plug my head into my Peavey? I've had a look at the circuit diagrams and what I'm thinking of doing is taking the effects send out [the head has no DI] and putting it into the 'power amp in' section of the Peavey. The effects send is post-eq and preamp so I'll get the tone, but I think it's before the power amp section of the Hartke. From what I can make out on the Peavey the 'power amp in' jack just takes a signal and sends it to the power amp and speaker. The Hartke HA2000 manual is here: http://www.samsontech.com/products/related...3500_manual.pdf The Peavey TNT 130 manual is here: http://www.peavey.com/media/pdf/manuals/80370367.pdf So my question is: am I about to blow up the Peavey? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matthew
19. Thought I'd say hello. I'm a bass player in Glasgow. Been playing since I was a spotty youth but gave up for most of my twenties, but back now playing blues and rock at home and ridiculous hair metal dressed as a viking in public. I play a 1989 Musicman Stingray I've had from birth and a Rick 4001 v63 that I picked up almost by accident in New York and turned out perfect for vikinging with. I'm looking finally to trade in the Musicman for a Jazz after years of meaning to. I'm just new, but been having a look around and this is a great forum, it's smashing there's so much activity and helping each other out. Well, hello, Matthew
