1. Mine has been shipped
2. This is going to look special... I do love a nice block and bound neck.
3.
I'd prefer a Mk1, but it still sounds very good to me... your pic is broken, by the way.
oh dear... I'll investigate. I do prefer the MK1 shape as I've always thought that the Mk3 four strings looked a little out of proportion from the pics I've seen online but they had one in the workshop on my recent visit and it looked and played wonderfully well.
4. A four string MK3 Wal, burr maple facings / headstock with a trans white finish similar to the one on this AVRI P someone else posted on another thread... The problem is I know it'll take Two years to arrive...
5.
Chaps, Are you replacing a floor/rack tuner or another clip tuner? Did you try any other clip tuners before you bought the TC one? Cheers
Yes I have a fender one and it's rubbish... Hoping to be able to leave the TU-3 at home. Every little bit of weight I can save when traveling on public transport is a bonus.
6.
The website says the button/coin type batteries, "Up to 18 hours of usage via a standard Lithium Coin Battery (CR2032)"
Thats great thanks. I think I have a couple of those 2032s kicking around.
7. Hopefully mine won't be to far away now then I got an email from GAK yesterday saying they had arrived. What sort of batteries does it take? those coin shaped ones or normal ones?
8.
Can we just pause a moment for the sheer brilliance that is Dave Grohl's Throne? Just look at the engineering that's gone into it!!!
Yes it is quite something... but he is a global megastar... I'd probably go for something a little more subtle for dad rock covers down the dog and duck though.
9. This is good news... I had a ShuttleMax 12.2 for a while and it sounded excellent, had lovely notched dials as well, felt like a well designed and decent quality product so hopefully we'll be seing more of the same soon
10. Only ever play standing up. I find it feels really odd playing sitting down... i'm right handed and I can just about do it with the bass in the classical guitar position (on my left leg with the neck at about 20/30 degrees from upright), but I find it really uncomfortable to play with the bass resting on my right leg with the neck almost paralell to the ground.
11. I just waited 18 Months for my new Wal, which I picked up last week... I remember ordering it thinking the day I actually got it was so far away it would never come. Now I've picked it up the build time is instantly forgotten. I understand the buildtime is now 24 months.... so I'm debating getting another order in soon
12. Could you have a P in the Fender sweet spot, a J by the bridge and a MM Style humbucker in the MM sweetspot? or would that all clash... could have a bass that does it all...
13.
Glasgow gig last night. Managed to catch Yolanda's set. Astounding bassist covering quite a few styles. Some instantly recognised bass riffs which i don't want to give the game away. She was def the highlight for me and comes across as a very charming and funny lady. All in all not a bad night for the money Enjoy Dave
I've booked for the London one but no-idea what to expect... Is it just a gig? or more like a trade show kinda thing?
14. That's the face my cat pulls when the vet gets the thermometer out...
15. Yes Oxford is a bit of a trek... Lovely city though
I have 4, 5 and 6 string and fretless basses, and can't play any of them properly...
Just like the rest of us then... This is actually part of the BC initiation. A crack team in BC jumpsuits turn up unannounced at new members gigs and if you're any good you're out...
16. The Fender Rumble gear seems to get a lot of positive reviews on here... Depends what sort of sound you are after really? Hartke is edging towards the more modern bright sound and the Rumble stuff more towards a traditional SVT style tone and may be a good upgrade from your Laney. Lots of bargains to be had secondhand with Genz Benz gear being an absolute steal for the price it goes for.
17. I recently breifly owned a Harley Benton PJ4 and it was my first PJ. I've never owned one before for the purely shallow reason that I always thought they didn't really work aesthetically... something just doesn't look quite right about them to my eyes, they look unbalanced. Anyway, sillyness aside, it was a very versatile instrument. If you already have a J and a P and are prepared to change basses then I wouldn't say there is any real need for a PJ as well but as a one bass solution they make sense. The neck pickup of a jazz just doesnt give the same plumby lows that a P pickup does and it's great to be able to solo that bridge pickup for classic jazz bite. I like them ... although I still think they look weird...
18. Getting on OK with this, trying to have at least some practice every day. Chapter 3 introduced several more notes so i'm running over and over it until I have it fluent before moving on. I also noticed that these exercises are supposed to be played at 65bpm... When I got the metronome out I realised that I've been reading them at least twice that speed so I must be doing something right... One point. My main bass is a six string but I started learning to read using (1st position?) the lower frets and open strings. I tend not to do this when I'm playing / improvising as I find using open strings means I'm using different fingering and it can throw my scale shapes out, so now I'm wondering whether to start again using the more familiar pattern of using the 5th fret of the B string as my low E... good idea? I suspect the answer is going to be to practice reading in both positions...
19. Awaiting mine from GAK
20.
I've had one of these Gig Skinz canvas bags for holding my Mesa Boogie Walkabout head for about 8 years or so and it's still in great condition. Nicely added and a good thick-ish strap. Has pockets for leads and tuner etc. Gig Skinz DGSERATO Computer/Recording DJ Backpack
That looks great... The mini Rec is much squarer?... more square? than the walkabout so I'll have to find something that fits it. Why are the bags that come with amps so crap? the one that came with my Glockenklang is equally bad...
21.
I've used a company called Bacsew for custom bags for my PA speakers. .. also make and stick most popular stuff too.
Thanks for that, they look ideal. I'll have a browse of their website and see if I can find someting suitable.
22. I need a decent bag for my Mini Rec... I've been carting it around London in the gigbag that came with it, but It's really flimsy and I'm worried about it falling apart and my amp plummeting to the ground . It's seriously crap, no doubt manufactured in china for a few pennies, a single line of stitching holding all the important bits together. I've beefed it up with cable ties where I can as a precaution but I really need something better. Anyone make bespoke bags? I need one with a shoulder strap.
23.
Why do I keep checking every evening and morning for dekos? I don't need any more basses. It's now part of my routine, like brushing my teeth, last thing at night and first thing in the morning. I DON'T NEED ANY MORE BASSES!
I also do this...
