Yes, and on me not claiming DIBS on it next!
you've already got one play fair....
-
So this thread has taught me that my chances of aquiring a nice original shergold for a resonable price are entirly reliant on Jack not seeing it first
-
Is it really in the fingers and not the bass?
CamdenRob replied to jazzyvee's topic in General Discussion
Whilst your fingers are obviously a major part of your playing technique (muting, dynamics etc) I do not beleive they have anything to do with your tone... That comes from, strings, bass, amp effects etc... If it really was all in the fingers then we'd all be using basses and amps without any tone controls... *edited and needlessly aggressive bits removed... -
Always pleased to see a Hartke rig when I turn up at an unfamiliar rehearsal studio... Never had one I couldn't get a decent sound out of.
and my 50 strat in Daphne Blue...
I have one of those in Surf Green... lovely guitars.
I had a righty in the 80s. Wanted to love it, but the pickups sounded bad and the maple fingerboard had a really sharp edge to it that gave me a sore left hand after an hour or so. Nostalgia isn't what it was. Replaced it with a Strat, and couldn't have been happier.
I think my ideal Shergold would be a cheapo one that had already been butchered so I wouldn't feel bad about putting a decent set of pickups in it and sorting out any problems... It's entirly an aesthetic thing for me, I love the way they look.

I'm shallow and the refin puts me off... the checked and cracked finish is part of what makes these basses appealing. Having said that it looks fantastic...
-
Always like a good build thread, keep us posted
-
I'd love one of those the right way round...
-
I really hope this actually works... I have a cheapo fender one and it's crap. Being able to ditch the TU3 would be a bonus in my never-ending quest to carry less stuff.
Busy busy with all the Wal servicing and maintenance and new bass and such... Bah! *jealous* Thhp!
Yes I can't complain, it's not exactly a chore... Paul has agreed to let me take some photos of his workshop / work in progress basses so hopefully I'll be able to put together a little Wal workshop visit thread after my trip down there in a couple of weeks time.

I do like that sandblasted finish... I remember being very tempted when they came out. They did seem to disapear very quickly, so I'm guessing everyone else thought they were pretty cool as well...
Why is it not available to pickup now? It would be stating the obvious to note that it appears to be finished and in the case. Just curious as I am expecting mine sometime in October.
I don't know, I thought that as well... Maybe there is some work to do on the setup or something. Paul did say it's available to pick up from the 27th but that may just be because I initially said I'd have to pick it up on a Saturday. As I'm away that weekend the 1st is the first date I can realistically pick it up... I just want it now!
Gorgeous I love the sapwood in the preamp area, seen the back yet?
That's the only picture I have unfortunately, I can't wait to get it home and go over it in minute detail...
Btw, any pics of your new fretless 4 in its new home?
I've not got the fretless four yet. I need to drop my Shedua sixer off for a service when I pick this new one up. Then when that's all serviced / setup as the buyer wants it I'll send it off to Germany and hopefully the fretless four won't be too long after that... I'm looking forward to it but this sixer is the main event for me, I've been waiting for this for 18 months... the fretless four just kinda happened because I am weak and everyone knows I can't resist...... and well i did need a fretless... that's my justification anyway
WAY too many strings of course, but... wow! I officially have Wal GAS. It's going to be a problem.
Well Wal have plenty of other options available for those who prefer their basses with the correct number of strings and maybe a little less coffee table like Wal GAS is painful... the only redeeming feature of my Wal GAS over my general bass GAS is that it took them so long to build it I had two years to cobble the pennies together!
How's the anticipation level at the mo Rob?
I can't think about anything else Wednesday the 1st of July is pick up day...
-
W150615 is born... ...available to pick up in two weeks time
-
wow a clip on tuner that actually works... I've ordered stuff shown on GAK as "avalable to order" in the past and it's taken months. I'll wait until they are actually in stock.

Mesa Boogie Prodigy and Power House 6x10 Cab
CamdenRob replied to Jimelliottbassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
Everyone's got a drummer to help lug the gear about!!
I always seem to end up helping my drummer lug his gear about... -
They are pretty cheap and cheerful... I'd expect for what you pay you'd get dodgy QC, cheap components etc. At my local studio I sometimes use one of their 4x12 guitar cabs when I can't be bothered to bring my own cabs, it sounds fine.

I thought he'd done a Lord Lucan... *edit* the disapearing bit not the murdering bit...

What a beast... If I had someone to carry my gear this would be right at the top of my list. ... love Mesa gear. -
Difference between string-through and bridge stringing?
CamdenRob replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
I had a fender jazz and had to string it through the body or the ferrules(?) fell out the back of the bass without the ball end of the string to hold them in.... Also, as mentioned not a great idea to go through body with flats. -
God, myHerpes are really crap. To the extent that if I'm buying something from BC I'll tell the seller that I would be happy with delivery by any means, EXCEPT for myHermes or Yodel. All couriers have scare stories associated with them, that's just statistics, but I've had proportionately more rubbish experiences with myHerpes than any other courier, with Yodel coming a close second.
Yeah me too, hence my surprise it was intact... It was a crap bass though

After a few days of review reading / watching I've just ordered a set of Bare Knuckle Painkillers for my Schecter C7... Hoping to add a bit more mid crunch through the ton of gain I'm using in my new metal band.
