Just give in... fighting GAS is futile...
-
That's a blast from the past... are they still going? Spent many a hazy afternoon with my mates in my late teens listening to "blow your headphones" whilst attempting to smoke our own body weight in weed...
-
I got 9... My theory is solid but my sight reading is rubbish...
Yes. But we don't know if it's the band who has contacted the OP or a 'third party'.
Wow... I assumed it was just an obvious scam but the fact it has some semblance of truth in it makes the story even more crazy... ...spiritual advisor
-
Hang on a minute... So this is actually a real band?
-
I didn't mean it literally, I just meant in an attempt to smoke him out as it were
Oh I see... sorry, misunderstood as usual.
-
Surely he would welcome a bunch of "European" bassists beating his door down?
I'm not convinced there would be that many of us at $100 a show...

NPD (new plate day) - warning: serious purple content!
CamdenRob replied to Conan's topic in Accessories and Misc
Looks like one of those magic eye pictures from the 90s... Gotta love those surf green J&Ds though. -
At that end of the market I'd be looking at the Ibanez... At the other end I'd be looking at the Warwick. Ibanez entry / mid level stuff has an excellent rep, Warwicks budget stuff not so much so... Although you could pick up any of a number of excellent german Warwicks used on here for under your budget and that would be a cracking instrument... that's where my money would be going.
well hurry up and buy it then get GAS for something else so I can get it second hand!
Someone was selling one on Gumtree last year around the corner from me... it was mint and I dithered too long and missed out
-
I really want one of these
Think I may have posted one of those further back in the thread... ... I think in hindsight a thread detailing basses I don't have GAS for would probably be easier.
-
There you go, you've sold it to yourself!! You're welcome!!
I was very tempted by that black/maple one in the marketplace...

Little sustain on 24th fret on ONE string only (First world problems...)
Thanks mates! And yes, I know, I know, but... the fact is that my SR506, for example, sustains the note for ages compared to this, which also happens to be neck-through-body. I do understand that it is a very minor thing, and definitely a pet-peeve. Still, I think it may be a matter of bad frets.
You're quite right of course... jesting about the dusty end aside, I would expect a bass to sound good at any point on the neck. Maybe have a luither take a look at it. How long have you had it? If you bought it from a shop you might be able to get them to check it out for nothing. -
Oh, it's justified all right! What other high-quality, hand-built 1970s vintage bass can you get for £300-£400? It would be crazy not to!! ...This isn't helping, is it?
It's not helping no! I've got a thing for brittish built basses at the moment and as you say, they are very reasonably priced for vintage instruments that can only get rarer and increase in value...
-
I'm in exactly the same situation. Drooled over these in the 70s and wanted one ever since. Got a Hayman 4040 a while back which has certainly helped a lot, but I still need (want ) a Marathon!
Don't say stuff like that... GAS is easier to recognise as GAS if it's only me that wants the things I'm GASsing for. If someone else has the same GAS then my GAS starts to seem justified!

CamdenRob replied to biro's topic in Bass Guitars
What are you doing playing all the way up there anyway? -
A Shergold Marathon!!
I have underlying GAS for one of these that seems seperate from regular GAS... It's always there in the background nagging away at me.
Have you ever come across a bad playing/bad sounding pre CBS Fender? Doesn't exist apparently....
I'm sure they do exist but no-one is going to spend thousands on a pre CBS fender and them come on BC and post about how disapointed they are and what a terrible instrument it is...
-
This is almost as good as winning the Nigerian lottery...

Sound advice above... If you're going down the custom route you really need to know what it is you want. Custom builders generally exist to offer you something you can't get of the shelf. If you just want a decent all round bass then you will get much better value buying something from one of the major brands, who can keep production costs down. As to which brand you should get... Well that's a thread in itself. We're very lucky as there are a multitude of great basses at any price point. TRBs are hard to beat and at the cheaper end, I had a Spector legend and it was an astonishing bass for the money.
Glad you are sorted I only commented as I thought your ad was one of the most sensible ones I have seen in years nice to see some one who is all about the music hope the band goes well
I'm just in it for fun just looking for guys or gals that are into the music and can commit a little time for rehearsals, gigs etc... Not really bothered about anything else Holding some auditions next week with a drummer who's day job is a function band, a singer who's been doing mostly classical choir stuff for the last couple of years and a bassist who's just starting out turns out there are a number of closet hardcore fans out there

I have a number of extra short comfort straps as they are the only decent padded strap I've found short enough.
-
I'd love to do this but I'm 14, so age will probably be a problem
Mrs C says I'm too old for this sort of music and comments like this suggest she may be right... I started out doing stuff like this when I was 13, it's never too early! Think I'm sorted for a bass player now, got drums and vocals lined up too, just need to get everyone together
Saw the neck of your new MK3 this evening when I was picking my MK2 up, Ziricote is stunning!
I've still got six weeks or so to wait yet! Two years has been a loooooong time...
