Anti-GAS, or being happy with what you've got.
I explained that they are very expensive (think £5k to £10k bracket). She didn't bat an eyelid and said "Well, it is what you enjoy". Love that woman. Not going buy a new one, but it's the thought that counts.
Ritter or Fodera? -
Damn I'm at work and can't really watch this. Farts are universally hilarious... apart from the cats
Really? Can I insterest you in a set of bag-pipes?
Are they any good for metal? -
Yeah as above really, I'd say 212 or 2x112 is the way to go.

I'm a lost cause... I even get GAS for instruments I can't play, I was looking at cellos online last week. -
Hi Guys, Looking for a bassist for a new metalcore band... Heavy heavy heavy. Got a singer and drummer auditioning next week so I just need the most important part, bass! A couple of rough demo tracks without vocals on soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/edgeofthelimit Sets worth of material ready for working on. Age, sex and image not important, this is about playing heavy heavy music and nothing else. None of that "industry interest" crap either, I work full time and this is about playing something heavy for fun desperate to get out there gigging and see where it takes us. Initial auditions will be in Camden (New Rose Studios) although I'm happy to find somewhere more convenient for everyone once I have a full band onboard. Drop me a line if this is your kind of thing. Cheers Rob

Looks fantastic Kev... what a bass... I tried a Roscoe sixer with the OBP3 at bass direct and was amazed at how light it was, must have been the lightest bass I've ever picked up.
That's a shame, I was developing quite serious GAS for one of his P basses.
I'm hoping he's just gone on holiday or something. He's such a nice guy I can't see him just ignoring me. Looking forward to getting my new Jazz which is a little overdue so hopefully not too far away
I sent him messages on facebook and through his website about a week ago, but no answer yet.
Thanks for that, at least it's not just me. He seems to have vanished off the face of the earth...
The first Metallica album I bought was Ride the Lightning in 1985. As a fresh faced 12 year old I was buying Powerslave and the guy behind the counter shoved RtL in my hand, saying "pfft, dinosaur rock. Get into these guys"
I distinctly remember getting my parents to buy me Reign in Blood for my 12th birthday... they had to import it and everything. -
Cool, I guess in a way it's just an extension of the generations trying to have more extreme music than the previous one, even back to the Beatles and Elvis being viewed as somehow leading the youths astray!! I still love my metal, and always will, but find some shouty stuff a bit too much, but ther's so much more choice about now.....and we'll always have the 'classics' too. I always remember the reaction of my mates dad, who got us into rock, he loved his Deep Purple etc, who were pretty heavy for the day, when we first saw on TOTP the video for Maidens Aces High, ( we were about 13/14),he walked out, saying it was just thrashy noise!!! Classic!!
Yeah it's definitely just a case of each generation regarding their music as the "pinnale" of a genre... even more so with metal as there are so many vastly different sub genres that are so different to each other it seems odd to even bring them under the same banner at all... Plus I'm not exactly upto date with my metal knowledge having stopped listening to heavy music almost completely around 2003/2004. The stuff I like is probably now regarded as easy listening -
That's interesting, may I be so bold as to ask how old you are, I was 16 when Master of Puppets came out and so thrash was in it's full on glory days era around that time, and compared to all the other metal around, like Maiden and Priest ( yes, i know there were much heavier bands like Venom and Voi Vod, but I'm talking BIG names) the new wave of Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth was METAL...!!! After that of course, mainstream metal IMO got much heavier after the Pantera era, so maybe thats why you see these guys more as rock then metal? Just a thought, you may well be a real bad ass 85 year old of course....!!!!
You're pretty much spot on to be honest... I listened to stuff like this and Metallica, Maiden etc when I was really young in the early 90s. By the time I played in my first bands around 95/96 mainstream metal bands like Pantera, Biohazard, Machine Head etc along with some of the better death metal stuff (At the gates etc.) had hit the scene and late 80s "metal" sounded to my ears very tame by comparisson. Of course by todays standards pretty much all metal pre 2000 sounds like light rock Not that I dislike Rock... far from it, there are very few geners I dislike, I just prefer my metal to sound heavy and full of energy, don't really see a place for cheesy gallops or guitar solos. -
I have never sold a Rickenbacker...

The playing last thing is definitely overated. It was OK in the days before the change in licencing laws where everywhere closed at 11PM. The instant the law changed, as an originals band you'd find yourself going on stage at 1AM on a Tuesday long after everyone had gone home...

Not a huge fan of this sort of stuff... Megadeath, Metallica etc. Always considered it to be more rock than metal. -
Was just having the conversation this morning about someone working for Hermes being paid 50p per package delivered. No wonder they're in a rush.
Surely they have to calculate stuff like that against minimum wage? So if you don't make enough deliveries you will still get minimum wage?
Shall do. Will try and get some sound samples if I can (read: if everybody ignores my awful playing)
Yeah please do, I'd love to hear how those multi-coils sound.
...but I am wondering what were fitted as standard, as these would have been what Yamaha deemed the ones to suit the bass best
I suspect that Yamaha's selecting of which strings to fit as standard is mostly based on cost as opposed to what sounded best.

It looks awesome... you'll have to do an NBD thread when it arrives and make us all jealous
