1.
I know from speaking to my PF driver quite a lot that they get treated like crap by middle management and that senior management don't have a clue about anything but bottom lines.
Much like any other industry then...
2. I'm still hopeful of making this but I'm not 100% so don't add me to the list just yet.
3. I don't think I've ever been to an audition that wasn't strange in some way... I'm holding auditions myself next week for a drummer and a couple of singers. Kinda feel like I should do something bizarre to keep the tradition going... maybe wear a superhero costume or something.
4. I wouldn't do it these days, would love to have gone down that road in my teens / early twenties. Even if in the highly unlikely event that a label came calling for one of my original bands I still wouldn't go full time. I have built a career outside of music and unless I'm going to get a similar amount of money from music (never going to happen) the bands will have to remain a hobby
5.
55mm
Thanks very much, I'll check that against my bass neck tonight.
6. I very rudely forgot to reply to this... I did have a listen but I've too much going on at the moment to commit
7. It's odd the things partners seem to take exception to... Mrs C is very patient with the amps, cabs and basses in the living room but the other day she was outraged with my cab covers being in the spare room (that we basically use for junk anyway). They now reside in an attractive wicker basket under the bed... apparentely that's where they should have been all along
8. Anyone with one of these have this dimension?
9.
This one from Quiklok. I have an older version and while it can be fiddly to set up it is completely adjustable and has a suitably low centre of gravity. This new version looks a lot more easy to use.
If the width of the bits that hold the neck are adjustable that looks like a winner...
10. The neck on my Wal is too wide at the nut to fit into any of the "hang from the headstock" style stands... It also has an asymmetric body so the low level ones aren't that great either If anyone knows of a suitable stand I'll order one today.
11.
1995 ....Volume 1, Issue 11 - Andrew Levy. (they don't make the magazines like they used to).
I remember that one... I was 13 and just started gigging in my first band in 1995. I remember looking through the pages of bassist magazine wondering how I would ever afford anything I lusted after...
12.
More recently still I popped into Maplins (does anyone else 'pop' these days?) and they had an offer on their own brand version AAs - which allegedly outperformed Duracell in a recent test of some sort. They are nice blue colour and came in a sturdy box, so that was good start.
I picked up a box of 100 of their AAs a while ago, they've been pretty good in everything I've tried them in.
13.
£250 free delivery, but there will be taxes and import costs of £20 - £80 when it hits the UK
A tad cheaper than a real one then...
14. The local parcelforce depot is within easy walking distance of my house but I can't use them as they exclude musical instruments from their insurance policy!
15. Terrible... I just hope the bass is OK. Even if it doesn't have any impact damage, the shock of being dropped from that height can't have done it any good. It looks like he may have lowered it over the fence and it has slipped down a bit to the position in the photo. Hopefully that's the case *edit for spelling
16. Wherever you go I'd make an appointment so they have the time and space set aside for you. Bass Direct has to be the best shout really.
17. I tried to use maplins homebrand in my Wal but the battery slot is cut so tight that it didn't fit in... I had to go with Duracell in the end, can't say I've had any issues.
18. I always keep a little back so I can boost up if everyone else gets over enthusiastic, usually run on 7 or 8. I have to roll it right back to half if I'm running into a BDDI though or it overloads the input.
19. Personally I'm rather fond of this...
20. Got all my gear in the front room, much to Mrs C's delight
21. One of the things I like about buying / selling on BC is that most people have extensive feedback and are active members of the forum. it's reassuring to know that someone will be contactable in the event of any difficulties There is also a strong coming together of everyone on the rare occasions that someone does try and rip someone else off.
22. Picked up a copy at the corner shop yesterday purely for the BC column. Good stuff bluejay, looking forward to more pearls of wisdom in the future
23. Oasis.. obviously.
