I guess its difficult as there is always going to be someone who is away any weekend in the summer... Unfortunately the first two weeks in June is when I'm away. I'm sure a good time will be had by all and I'll hopefully catch you all at the next one
I haven't read all the post, but here's my spin; "A set up from a very good luthier cost me $51.00. I wouldn't go near a truss rod with a 10 foot pole" Blue
I felt like that too until recently. Its really not that difficult once you've had a few goes at it. I don't fear adjusting it all now and it is useful to be able to make adjustments myself.

Ok I've started something... Its going to be some hardcore metal from me this month... Well why not...

looks great to me cool colour scheme...

The guitarist in a recently deceased project was a perennial foot tapper but always out of time... I only noticed it when I was looking at his feet during a section without drums at a poorly monitored gig as a guide to staying in time... useless.

What time are you guys on?

I'd say a good engineer will be experienced with most common styles... Classic rock isn't exactly an obscure unheard of genre and I would imagine any experienced studio engineer would have more than enough knowledge to get a recording up to a good standard. Only time I'd advise searching out something specific is if your doing some brand or other of extreme metal where your average rock music engineer wouldn't have a clue what sound you were going for.
My Wal weighs around 5KG and I've not had a problem.

Strap height and type of straps you use will play a part as well.
I use a comfort strapp and play my bass very high which probably helps.

Jazz basss have pretty large bodies and can be weighty... My Wal weighs around 5KG and I've not had a problem. Then again I'm only playing 45 minute originals sets and 3 hour rehearsals once a week tops. I totally understand guys having issues with 3 x full pelt sets every weeeknd...

I've only ever turned mine half a turn at the most either way... much more than that and you could use your bass to shoot arrows
I sent an email to Sire about the through-bridge stringing issue with the 4-string bridge and got this reply: 'The holes for through-body stringing on the four-string bridge are quite close to the saddles as you stated. We are now adjusting the through-body holes to be further away from the saddles as they are on the 5-string bass.' Good to know Sire are open to feedback and suggestions.
Who do they think they are... actually listening to feedback and improving their product as a result of what they hear. It'll never catch on, thats just not the way things are done in the world of bass manufacturing.. -
I've played sixers since I came back to the bass a couple of years back. I just like the flexibility, although to be honest whilst the low B is of practical use in the bands I play in, the high C I really just use when writing and looping chord bassed stuff, good for melody lines too.. I find the neck very comfortable and have no reason at the moment to go back to fours. I do use a four for fretless though, but that may change... I don't think any less or any more of players regardless of how many strings they have on their bass... it's what they are playing that counts
Well I hope you're satisfied. My bass playing brothers. Because of your evil and bad bad advice..I've just pulled the trigger on my very first jazz bass ( after 40 years of playing). I should never have started this damned thread. Mr Discreet didn't help at all with that review of his bass. I've just gone and bought an identical one to his from the German company....well it is my birthday in a couple of weeks. I've got to admit though....the sense of relief after so many years ..is just fantastic. Thank you all for your advice.
It would be silly not to have tried one of those at that price. Hope it works out

You have a several choices as to where to play the same note It's a great feature of our instrument... I use different fretboard positions depending on what tone I'm going for. For example I might play an open A in riffy bass intro to a rock tune and I might play the A as the 10th fret of the B string in a soft blues tune. It's good to have the choice of timbre, use what you think sounds good Also when I used to play metal with guitars tuned to drop C i'd play a five string tuned C,F,A#,D#,G#.. never found the need to drop tune on bass really, it threw all my scale patterns out...

I have an A/B pedal kicking around somewhere I don't use any more, one input and two outputs, swithcable by a footswitch, is that what you need? I don't use it anymore as I've gone down to bass-cable-amp for my live stuff, I can stick it in the post if you can make use of it?
Something critical for my needs, which of these two pedals has the quietest mechanical pedal action Rob? I don't mean a click through the speaker, but the clunk from the chassis as you press the pedal. I need something pretty quiet, from my previous experience of boss pedals that big panel makes quite a click
The ditto is much louder as a click as it's got the raised type of footswitch, the normal boss chassis is quiet as usual. Having said that I found the double click and hold (required on both units to stop and delete) easier on the ditto as i could feel the clicks. Overall I prefered the ditto slightly but got rid of it due to not being able to run it off batteries... also, a bit of a moot point but I did have to have my ditto replaced after a couple of months as it sort of crashed and kept playing the same recorded phrase over and over... the second one I had was fine though.

Get the jazz... you won't sound like jaco, you'll sound like you with the sound you want
