Wind instrument for total beginner
CamdenRob replied to sonicaddiction's topic in General Discussion
Not woodwind I know but, I've been entertaining the idea for a while now of learning the cello. I'm not sure how much a decent clarinet, bassoon etc would be but looking at 'beginner' cellos it makes you realise how spoilt we are as bassists being able to pick up a serviceable instrument from the likes of Squier, Yamaha, Ibanez etc for a couple of hundred quid... -
March Play(s...) of the Day (New, improved, formula...)...
CamdenRob replied to Dad3353's topic in General Discussion
Many thanks Dad, your kind words are much appreciated. I reckon your writeups are the reason a lot of people end up listening to the entires in the compo comp. You are a gentleman and I hope your feeling better? -
I don't have full blown GAS at the moment, as in GAS for stuff I've convinced myself I need to improve my setup (this is true GAS), but I still have GAS for things I like the look of... A quick blast through the Bass Direct website has turned up these four I would very much like... That Brubaker at the top is £499.... I really have no reason to click 'add to cart' yet still I keep hovering dangerously close to it.
One of the nice things about the SoundCloud playlist is I let it run in a background tab where I could only see the first word of the title - so I don't yet know who each track is by.
That sounds like a good idea, think I'll give that a go when I listen through them. If only they hadn't taken the soundcards out of the works PCs I'd be listening now... killjoys, its almost like they expect me to actually be doing something.

It looks like the 80s has been sick on it....
-
I'd like to see Fender/Squier there... Not because I'm looking to buy one but I think having the largest and most well known bass manufacturer would give the event some legitimacy. If the big names don't bother it kinda make it look like a bit of an amatureish event... Big range of Warwicks, Ibanez etc would be good too.

So I currently have 3 fewer votes than a track that doesn't exist... Looking forward to going thorugh these at the weekend Hopefully get a chance to drop a line of two about each in a mini review.
I have some more pictures of me in my bikini if you'd like them..?
It's OK I have plenty from that dirty weekend to Skegness you took last summer that no-one knows about...
Would also be interested to hear from owners of the Glock
I use a Glock Blue Soul and it's a wonderful amp, but from what you have said I'm not sure it would fit the bill for you personally... You mention warmth alot and the Glock is super super clean. It's deep, punchy and powerful with tons of clean headroom but not what I'd describe as warm. The Blue Sky is based on Glocks BAC preamp and is even cleaner... Get yourself to bass gear and try out everything you can.
However, I struggle with people who finish sentences off with a rising cadence in their voice that finishes with a non existent question.
Spent much time in the North West?

I know them all anyway as I maintain extensive dossiers on all BCers in my private library...

All of your listed options are modern clean (hi fi) amps as standard (the sort I go for myself)... You can of course mess around with the EQ to get what you want but if your after a fundamental character of;
warm sound but not muddy, with plenty of heft/weight to the notes and even response across lows, low/high mids and highs
I'd maybe sugest a GB Streamliner or the Aggie TH500 suggested above.
Grammer instead of grammar.
I'm not really bothered about peoples grammer, spelling etc... Ths is an informal site where we talk about basses, as long as I understand the point a poster is trying to make I'm not really fussed about the rest of it. Surley the point of language is to be able to communicate a point? a few spelling mistakes or using "less" instead of "fewer" etc dosn't really hinder my understanding of what a poster meant... life is too short and all that.
Did you do 'rainbow thinking' to get there? One day the tune I'm humming in my head whenever I hear that phrase is going to come out loud.
To be honest I'm not sure how we arrived at the point for him to unleash that particular beauty... I wasn't really paying attention as I was looking at BC on my phone
After some research. More like this one http://www.vsnguitar...w-white-finish/
Looks good... You could always have it re-fretted but it will cost obviously... also this will be much harder to sell than a fender should you change your mind. I'd have to swap out that gold hardware though!

I actually have the opposite issue... I'm fine on bass after years of playing but when I occasionally play guitar the strings cut in like cheese wire.
Sorry, folks, I'm not well right now. I'll be back as soon as I can. Carry on.
Get well soon you'll be back in no time

Someone in a meeting a couple of weeks back in reference to trying out a new idea said "lets run it up the flag pole and see how it flies"... nob...
It's in Newbury. However; I've put the 'cleanest' set of pre-amp and 6L6 valves I've got into my modded DIY Tweed Deluxe and it's got some serious heft through my extenson cab. I'll D.I. a smidge through the P.A. and I should be able to busk it. We're not a loud band.
Good stuff, glad your sorted.
I will see how it goes. I guess the dude don't get on with fretless and 6 string and would prefer a fender jazz.
I would say they are two basses of comparable second hand price... although a Fender would be a lot easier to shift obviously so would be more valuable IMHO.
Another guy offer to trade his Tune 6 string lined fretless bass for my Fender. I assume is a straight swap, I know Tune bass is not cheap and the early one is made in japan i think.
I had a Tune fretless for a while, it was a great bass. Thing with Tune basses is that their are two companies called Tune making bass guitars... One is a quality Japanese manufacturer and the other is Korean based and makes slightly lower prices instruments. The one I had was Korean. Very different beasts a Tune fretless sixer and a Fender, that's quite a trade...
They're collecting it today for a warrenty repair. Time to sort something out for Saturday. Ho-hum.
Wheres your gig? I'm sure someone local could lend you something

These wait times aren't really that bad... I seem to have mixed luck with custom builders but as mentioned above sometimes just keeping the business ticking over takes priority, I can understand that. These boutique manufacturers are offering a product that you cannot get from a commercial manufacturer so if you want one, you have no choice but to put up with a bit of delay if things happen behind the scenes. What gets me is the lack of communication... Like people would rather avoid confrontation by just keeping quiet about delays. I ordered my current cabs from Purple Chili and was quoted a 6 week buildtime, they arrived on time, but this is my only experience of a custom build arriving when quoted. I've no reason to believe my Wal will be late as I've been sent regular updates but my Peterbuilt is 3 months overdue and counting and the less said about the letts bass I ordered a while back the better...
