  1. I usually just put the amp on the floor next to the cab when this happens.
  2. I bought a couple of deco only Harley Benton Jazzes a few years back for about a tenner and they were astonishingly good. The ones with the Wilkinson pups and tuners etc. Even had a great fit and finish too.
  3. I am down to Two Wals. Fretted and Fretless Sixers. Although I do have an incoming Emperor Standard Classic when their next batch is complete around October time. I also have an out going Jazz bass that’s been taking up space in a case for a while, so I’ll be staying at 3. Should I ever be fortunate enough to not have to work and live in london and therefore not reside in a matchbox, I suspect the collection would spiral out of control fairly quickly 😕
  4. Definitely basses for me... I don’t use any effects and I’m pretty happy with my rig. I’d been through just about every type of bass before arriving at the Wals I have now. I haven’t bought a bass for the last couple of years but I still GAS for stuff. I trawl through pages and pages of gear most days... Not cause I’m searching for anything in particular, I just like basses 😊
  5. In the musical world I live in (London venue, promoter organised, multi band original nights, with more people on stage than in the audience), I have the opposite problem in that I rarely get to use my own gear... “Why do you want to use yours? There is a perfectly serviceable knackered, ancient, ashdown, heap of farty s*it over there all the bass players use. It’s great, it makes all basses played through it sound like an indistinguishable woolly mush 👍 Anyway If you don’t like that kind of sound it doesn’t really matter as its so pitifully underpowered you won’t be audible anyway”... 😐 Im often left with the choice of lending everyone on the gig my rig or sounding s*it.
  6. Rather partial to this myself... No shortage of eye candy on either site mind 😕
  7. Can’t help thinking of pretzels whenever I see these... 🥨 😕
  8. Popped in The Gallery to give it a whirl this morning. The top really is quite something... almost looks like marble in the flesh.
  9. Not a physical resemblance, but people have often done a double take when they’ve heard me playing thinking it was Bobby Vega... 😐
  10. Why did you have to do that... I've just clicked on that link and seen this...😮
  11. Ah it’s difficult isn’t it... no one really wants anyone else using their gear but it does look a bit arsey to flat out refuse. Trouble is you don’t know if whoever’s using it can be trusted to sit on the toilet the right way around let alone understand how a bass amp works... Maybe there should be some sort of widely accepted interview system in place. “Hello potential rig user. What’s your preferred setting for the bass knob” ”...on full like all the others innit” ”Access denied” 😐
  12. Thanks for the comments guys 😊 This is a wonderful bass. I’m only selling it because I have a new build due in the next few months and moving this on half justifies it in my head 😕 As always the market will dictate the value, but this is a lot of bass for £500 😊 ... even if it is VERY Yellow!
  13. Definitely less noticeable that 😊 think it would still wind me up though. 😕
  14. I just can’t get past the aesthetic... 😕 ... shallow I know but they look so awful any enjoyment I might get from improvement in technique would be wiped out the second I looked at the thing 😕
  15. I have a pair of Barefaced One10s. It’s never not been enough 😊
  16. I look at this the other way. I’m a reasonable player / bass line writer but I do absolutely everything from a mathematical standpoint. What key is the song in, what are the chords etc. Then I can use notes from the relevant scales to create my lines. Although to be honest I mostly stick to chord tones and take the odd passing note from the relevant mode. Im happy with my sound / style but Ive always been in awe of more ‘natural’ musicians... A life long friend has absolutely no idea which intervals create which chords, I’m not even sure he could name the notes of the open strings... But he is a wonderful classical guitarist. I’ve not seen such a unconscious ability to write complex chordal pieces with little melody lines over the top played simultaneously. Wonderful stuff I could never have come up with myself. Takes all sorts this music lark 😊 I’m happy the theory framework is out there to learn as it’s given less naturally gifted players like myself half a chance of sounding good!
  17. No doubt this happens. The very fact signature equipment exists points to name players influencing sales. Personally I just don’t get it... Why on earth would you want to sound like someone else? (Unless your playing a cover obviously). I can appreciate others great tone / playing but genuinely can’t understand wanting to sound like them... carve your own sound
  18. Really enjoyed that Theres something special about a fretless Wal. My fretted Wal is very dear to me, but if my house was on fire and I could only save one it would have to be the fretless... ...Then again I have two hands so I guess I could just grab both 😕 ...should probably leave a hand free for either Mrs C or the cat though 😐
  19. Peterbuilt Jazz Bass - £500 Open to straight trades, happy to look at anything Cat not included... This is a built to order Jazz Bass assembled and finished by Peter Boer in Holland. Made in 2015. Allparts alder body and maple neck (ebony fretboard). The bass was originally fretless with passive stack knob controls, but I had it fretted at The Gallery and an East J- Retro preamp fitted. The bass sounds and plays wonderfully, with a large variety of tones from the preamp. Well balanced seated and standing. Currently strung with labella flats. The pickups are DiMarzio 123s. The Nitro finish has a couple of minor imperfections (no dings or scratches though) and the pickguard could have been trimmed a little tidier. Difficult to show in the photos but mentioning anyway for clarity... The only other point of note is that last time I changed the strings the nut fell out... It’s currently held in place by the string tension but could do with glueing back in. 38mm at the nut and weighing 10 1/2lb according to the bathroom scales. I will also include the original stack knob control plate (only for a pick up as it won’t fit in the case to ship) and a matching leather strap from couch straps. I have a Thomann tweed case for this as well (pics further down the thread). I’ve had issues with couriers before, so my strong preference is for a pick up from Walthamstow, London, E17 evenings or weekends. Can also meet at any London tube station for a handover / exchange.
  20. Also I haven’t been on here in ages and have no idea why the text in my previous post is so enormous 😕
  21. I can offer a little history to this. I came back to bass around 2012 after a long break and went through just about every type of instrument out there, trying to find something that gave me the sound I wanted in my head. The collection waxed and waned as I searched, getting into double figures at one point, then I bought this... Off the back of that I ordered my two custom Wal sixers which are the only basses I have owned since. When I collected my first one (2015) I had sold this to someone over in Germany. I took the bass to Paul when I picked mine up and he did a full service and returned the tuners to hipshot ultralights (the previous owner had some Gotoh ones on there). The bass was then shipped direct from Wal HQ in the case intended for my new one. I have the original case for this bass. It’s a full flightcase covered in stickers and it is so heavy it is of little practical use. If you’re into back injuries I would happily swap it back... On the bass itself, this instrument ended my quest for what I consider to be the perfect bass tone. It has all the growl, power and bell like clarity at the top end you will know about if your interested in this anyway. A wonderful instrument...
  22. My support regarding Wal orders is usually along the lines of... Do it... go on do it... do it, do it, do it... have you done it yet? I was going through numerous basses a month until my first one landed, chopping and changing, searching for something that gave me the sound I had in my head. I'm down to two basses now and have been for a while, fretted and fretless Wals
  23. ... goodness me look at that Everything you'd hoped it would be?
  24. All of the bands I've been in over the years have had universally sh*t names... Agonised over band names for weeks as kids and still ended up with something rubbish. *Also I haven't been here for ages, have we stopped moaning about how much stuff weighs and resolved which bass is best for metal yet?
  25. I'm sure you've the best intentions, but to be honest not publishing any details just makes it look like you're concerned it's been nicked and worried someone will be able to identify it ... Then you'll have to give it back. I'd be trying to find out if it was legit ASAP by putting all the info out there. Although I obviously wouldn't be handing it over to anyone without extensive proof that it belonged to them. Anyway hopefully it all works out and you've got yourself a wonderful bass, none better in my book
