1. I've wasted at least five minutes reading this thread...
2. Mustang sally...
3. A wal resurrected from beyond the grave... Good stuff, it looks great.
4. Yay a clang stick bashing thread... Clankety clank...
5.
Yes they vary hugely, I have to agree with above as well; Enterprise are (were?) the worst I've used though those ones in Borough come a close second.
I've been there, the one near borough station? Its awful the guy was comically rude to everyone... so much so that I thought it must be an act but looking back on it I reckon he was just a twat.
We use Storm too at Holloway Rd.....pretty good but does get some noise problems at times from the railway lines.
They have an SVT and 8x10 as well don't they? that kinda makes up for any downsides....
6. If you're ever unfortuante enough to have a rehearsal at Enterprise round the back of Denmark Street make sure you have your jabs beforehand...
7.
30+ years for me... If I'd practised constantly I'd probably be pretty good, especially if I'd practised things that I'm weak at. However, being lazy, I practised what I could do and forgot about the rest. Luckily, I don't do covers as such, which means I don't have to try and play like Pino, or The Ox or whatever which means I've stuck with being lazy!
Your already pretty good... I just listened to your composition competetion entry, lovely tone and feel.
8. Very underated these... Kinda wish I'd kept mine.
9.
Roger Sadowsky and Michael Tobias have been building basses for many years. They did a very interesting talk about setting up basses at NAMM this year. Better from the horses mouth than us hobbyists. http://youtu.be/QzDxC98VNx8
Just watched this for the first time... What a great resource. Two men who clearly know their stuff.
10.
Thanks - I actually like the relic'd look so fine for me. Probably keep it light though! I have a 1975 original Fender Jazz which is quite relic'd for real! EMAIL SENT
ah fair enough I don't mind relics either just didn't want one myself.
11.
Thanks for this - am now slightly obsessed about Limelight basses and am about to compose an email. Cheers!
Limelight won't build you an unreliced bass as it requires a higher standard of finish. I wanted a custom jazz and that is what I was told... I ordered one from Peterbuilt in the end.
12.
How many band member? 3? 2 slips and a gully?
or Two short legs and a silly point?
13.
that will be most likely because soundcloud reduces the quality, think it only plays back a 128kb mp3
I can't afford the quality to be reduced any further it wasn't very good to start with...
14. I was only there for an hour and seem to have avoided any photos...
15. He had a very popular stand at the london bass show, some cracking looking basses. As mentioned above though he's not really breaking new ground.
16. The key benefit from learning some guitar (or keys) would be a knowledge of chords... Not just learning the physical shape of chords obviously, that won't help your bass playing at all, but learning how the chords are constructed (from which intervals etc) can give you an insight into which notes can be used to construct your basslines. Just looking at a guitarist and recognising the shape of a chord is a bit of a party trick unless you understand how that chord is constructed,
17. That's bizzarre...
18. Although the bass seems to have disappeared since uploading to SoundCloud... Strange times...
19. OK chaps here's my attempt https://soundcloud.com/robhartley-1/ny-dittywav I decided against trying to sing in the end and just recorded a guitar line for the vocal melody I intended... I know, I know bit of a cop out but my lyrics just aren't up to scratch for public display yet! The photo made me think of some kind of US Psychiatry based talk show so I've gone for a bit of cheesy blues. Although listening back to it, it kinds sounds more like a theme tune to a western... ah well never mind, glad to be back in the BC comp comp
20.
See, that comment above from CamdenRob surprises me also. I admit though, I am guilty of making incorrect judgements / guesses of what I 'assume' a users standard or level - call it what you want - to be based on the quality of the gear they display in the sig. So I'm seeing mentions of Wal and I automatically start thinking, "hmmm, must be a session player or semi-pro at least!"...
Naah definitely just a hobbyist I only play originals for fun. Used to do a bit of teaching a good few years back but then give it all up. Work comes first for me and the music is a welcome distraction
21.
Not my cup of tea, but then I guess it's somebody elses so I couldn't give a toss - I'm not gonna buy his records or go to see his show so whether he plays Glasto or not bothers me not
This is precisely why I have nothing to contribute here...
22. I reckon a rudimentary understanding of drums would help more.
23.
Dan Lakin, it just looks half finished to me.
Yeah I was thinking of those too...
24. Great blog that, must have been a monumental effort to put all that together with the captions...
