1. Yes the website could do with updating, it is pretty poor... It doesnt even feature all of the models they make. Mike's cabs come highly recomended from me though. Great cabs, built and shipped to my door within Three weeks.
2. Glad you got the money back
3. Is everyone else actually measuring their action... to the milimeter? it all sounds very scientific... I'm from the "lower it, then raise it until it doesn't buzz anymore" school of bass set up I reckon I should learn a bit more about it actually as the action on my bass is pretty high, not that it's an issue but I hate fret clank or any sort of buzz. I guess I could be missing out on making my basses slightly more comfortable...
4. I got my first bass when I was 12 as we were forming a death metal band at school and all the other instruments had been taken... I didn't even know what a bass was really. We were OK actually (for death metal) played all the dodgy old London metal venues when we were 13... Asides from a long hiatus (damn career) I've only played bass ever since. I tinker with guitar at home every now and then but I've never really had the desire to play anything else in a band Didn't really enjoy being an absolute beginner as i hate being sh*t at anything so i just practiced relentlessly untill I was good enough to play in bands.
5. Phwoar...
6. Bump and a little price drop. £425 including UK shipping and a hiscox hardcase.
7. ... and yes I am having a bad day. It's raining, the bus was late and overcrowded and the cat bit me when I was tying my shoelaces this morning
8. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a conspiracy between Mr Cowell and the touts... ie. I'll sell you all the tickets at a reasonable face price so it looks like I'm not taking advantage of people with kids desperate to see 1D. Then you sell those tickets on ebay at ten times the face value and bung half the profits into my account in the caymen islands... everyone is a winner....
9. In 2009 when Enlgnad hosted the T20 cricket worldcup they had a system where you went online at a specific time (9am I think) on a certain day and you were placed in a queue and told how long it would take you to get to the front to buy tickets (about 4 hours IIRC) I signed up bang on 9am, waited for my four hours only to be told when I got there that all England, India and Pakistan games were sold out... I went on ebay and there were thousands of tickets available at ten times the face value. The event was impossible to buy tickets for, they had obviously all been purchased in advance. It was a farce and the industry needs regulating... If One direction can sell out a venue at the prices the touts are charging then why aren't the venue charging that in the first place? I would if I owned the venue... it's the whole tout thing that pisses people off, feeling like you've been conned...
10.
I agree wholeheartedly, while I prefer the spector sound, but the warwick streamers do sound nice, albeit it a little more "woody", like mike inez's tone on "no excuses" Maybe if I could try one out somewhere I might be tempted lol
I love the tone of both instruments to be honest... They are two companies who are definitely producing something you cannot get elsewhere.
11.
I'm sorry that rob trujillo from metallica isn't big enough or cool enough with the kids for you Rob :-)
Everyone is cooler than me...
12.
Can't afford a new streamer stage ii??? Try this http://www.bassdirec...LX_SE_2014.html Build quality will burn anything warwick are churning out, besides the German made ones at least. (Ducking for cover hehehehe)
I can obviously see the aesthetic similarities between Warwicks and Spectors (one being a direct rip off of the other) but in sound they have very little in common IMO. They are both excellent instruments but they sound very different.
13.
I think its real shame that they're 'not cool' at the minute as they're a brilliant instrument with great build quality and a sound that works perfectly for me.
I think their time will come again... They are offering a quality product with a unique sound. All it needs is X from X-massive-young-popular-band to be seen playing one and they will be right back in everyone minds again.
14.
Yeh, i think as a beginner to bass, i wouldnt get too concerned with the intricacies of what frequencies you'll hear etc. Get a small amp and speaker like the ones you've suggested, and just play. Play along to songs, play anything at all, just experiment and see if you feel the bass is something you'll enjoy. If you do get hooked, thats when you can start concerning yourself about the quality of your sound. For now, IMO, just get something cheap, that allows you to hear yourself. And enjoy
This is by far the best advice in this thread... Ignore me and do this instead.
15. The issue isn't with the model of practice amp your looking at, I would imagine that all the models you've put links up for are of a similar quality. The issue is that practice amps are on the whole pretty rubbish. They will have no low end whatsoever and are therefore rather pointless as a means of amplicifation... They will of course enable you to hear yourself playing though and if that is your sole aim just get the cheapest one you've found
16. The trouble with wording an advert like that is whilst you may think it's witty and your comming across as a fun guy, the truth is everyone else thinks your a prat... Looks like a nice bass though...
17. I had similar issues with my letts build... In the end, when I got fed up of waiting for an instrument that it was becoming increasingly clear wouldn't be to the original specs, I went down the legal route. Got my deposit, some additional money I'd paid and my costs back in the end. Very happy to have washed my hands of the whole sorry experience.
18. Judging by the responses I think most people thought it might be a wind up....
19.
Lovely bass! How the frick do they do it for the money and maintain such tight quality control?
I've no idea either... this and the yammy trbx304 look like incredible value, I don't which one I like more...
20. To be honest there's not really a shortcut... your going to need a proper bass amp if you want to play aloud without headphones. Cheapest option would maybe be to look for a decent second hand bass amp in your area? One of those little practice amps will suffice to make you audible but it really will sound terrible...
21.
I don't get it... why would the colour of the floor make a difference?
...it's got as much chance of making a difference as the colour of the cable...
22. SVT and a pair of 8x10s should do it... sorry... as a more productive suggestion I wouldn't personally bother with any of those practice amps, they are all going to sound so horrible and honky that it's enough to put you off bass playing altogether a bass doesnt even sound like a bass through those things they have absolutely no bottom end whatsoever... I would suggest getting a small mixer or something and using headphones for home practice and then saving up a bit extra for a proper amp when you get around to jamming with some mates
23.
I would agree that Fender's line up is a jumbled mess, on the flipside, I couldn't even tell you what even Warwicks line up is outside of the Rockbasses.
True... I'm not sure myself to be honest.... I think it's the German stuff at the top, then a line made in korea (also quality instruments), then the cheaper rockbass models.
24.
I've played production line Ibanez basses for £800-1000 that have been better quality than some of the custom build £2k+ UK builds.
It's a funny thing with Ibanez isn't it... Some of their higher end stuff is magnificent and would go head to head with basses four times the price and I have no idea how they produce the lower end stuff to such a high quality for the price point... guess they are just unfashionable or maybe seen as metal basses... no problem there though, bargains to be had! especially secondhand.
25. I recently aquired then moved on a Thumb NT 6 which would retail new at well over £4K... I think it held its own against other basses in that price bracket. But yes I do take your point... I would imagine that a company like Warwicks business model would revolve around shifting multiple units at lower margains and I can't imagin they actually sell many new instruments at these prices? Maybe they have boosted the price of their German models in order to avoid any confusion whatsoever with their cheaper lines? The whole Fender thing does get very blurred as to what's a quality instrument and whats mass produced to a price point with MIA, MIJ, MIM, MIC... then of course all the squires...
