1.
There's a lot of love for those J&D's on here
I've never played one but they look fantastic...
2.
Tought choice I made some quick experiencies...i hope it helps
wow thanks for that... the ziricote looks fine with the stripe cut up by the hardware, it's not going to be as much of an issue as thought.. I've a few days to make up my mind... guess it depends how 'out there' I want it!
3. hmmm well... I do appreciate the input chaps although they are very different I like them both. My only issue with the Ziricote is that that nice light patch down the center will be broken up by a bridge, a pair of enormous pickups and the truss rod cavity at the base of the neck. Looking at my current MK3 there would be about three inches of that center strip visible along the entire length of the body and i'm worried it might look a bit angular broken up like that... I also realize that this is the very definition of a first world problem and I should just let Paul get on with what he thinks will look best!
4. I have struggled with issues like this throughout my time playing bass. Last week at rehearsal my right arm ceased up and I could barely move my fingers, had to stop for a few minutes... I know it's poor technique and as Bilbo says above, I'm gripping the neck too tight and digging in too hard with my plucking hand, it's a difficult habit to break. I find when I really concentrate on playing and fretting lightly I have no issues but as soon as I stop actively focusing on playing lightly I'm digging in like a neanderthal again...
5. I can just about fit on the tube with mine, so long as I stand in the middle at the highest bit... I cannot however stand up on busses, which is very annoying as I'm usually carrying a cab as well so it's a bit of a mission...
6. I really like that... it looks great.
7. I'd try gumtree. I put an ad up last week looking for any interesting new projects and got a good 15 or so replys within 24 hours. I wittled it down to five I was interested in and have three auditions this week.
8. I almost wish he hadn't given me the choice... I agree with the above really, the Ziricote is a more traditional looking choice but I really like that piece of Macassar and think it would stand out as unique. These are for the front and back facings over the usual Wal mahogany core which forms a kind of border when looking at the instrument face on. They will also be used for the matching headstock.
9.
You could try a PM to ... Obbm ... ... or ... KiOgon ... ... who may be willing to oblige..?
Good shout Dad... and here's the man himself;
Assuming that it's all Speakon I have such a cable that I made use with my long departed Schroeder cabs.
Ah it's good to know it can be done. When I get hold of a second wizzy 10" I'll drop you a pm if you could make one up for me? All my other speaker and instrument cables are yours anyway so i might as well continue the tradition...
10.
Mmm, this just arrived. Addressed to Mrs.H, from Strings Direct, guitar shaped. What could that be I wonder?
Whatever it is it's trying to escape out the top!
11. I wonder what percentage of Thomann sales are UK sales... They must be shipping stuff over by the container load.
12. I think generally a band big enough to be playing these kind of huge gigs are obviously very popular, being popular would mean that many of their fans aren't musicians themselves. People who aren't musicians literally couldnt give a sh*t about anything apart from the vocals and wouldnt even notice the sound of anything else... maybe a bit of guitar solo every now and then but certainly not bass.
13. Thanks gents... I'm leaning towards the Macassar but to be honest I'd be happy with either.
14.
...I bought my X32 from DV247 in the end...
Before I was lucky enough to find my Glockenklang here in the BC marketplace I emailed DV247 to see if they could match the thomann price. They responded a week later saying they could, but a week is far too long.. If one hadn't come up for sale here I would have assumed they weren't going to respond and ordered it up from Thomann by then...
15. hmmm it's time to choose the top wood. I wanted to go for something different and dark for my incoming MK3 sixer, so Paul has ordered in two tops specially, a ziricote and a macassar. I'm erring towards the macassar but it's a tough choice. Ziricote : Macassar :
16. Hi guys, bit of advice needed... I'm wanting to get another wizzy 10" to pair with my existing one and an MB200. As they are 4ohms can I get a cable or something so the amp would see the two cabs in series and therefore an 8 ohm load?
17. Actually had a chance to listen through these this month which is a rarity for me. A few words about each... Just opinion as always. Dad3353 : I really enjoyed this, it's a really jolly tune... is that you playing a guitar solo in the middle? bet that required a few guitar faces? Lord Sausage : Disco indeed. I liked the section in the middle (flute sample?) reminds me of the first tune off a Bently Rhythm Ace album I had years ago. Leonard Smalls : Good vocal samples in this, the "dance till you drop" bit fitting in well with the theme. It's a great way of tying the music in with the pic... which is obviously the aim of this competition! Plunger Moderno : Wasn't expecting that banjo style sound to come in after the intro... It sounded good and made me want to drink something brewed in a bathtub... lurksalot : I thought the vocoder style vocals worked really with in this, again it reminds me of something I had years ago on a mix album... I think it was a cover of Bowies ashes to ashes with this sort of vocals. I enjoyed it anyway. Skol303 : Wow a bit of rapping... that's cool and as always this is a well produced tune. The intro and the slap bass reminds me of a short film I once saw where in the begining a guy with a mustache came to mend a ladies boiler... don't remember what happened next...There is obviously a huge amount of effort goes into your tunes for this competition each month. Sounds like the bass playing is coming on well too. Zenitram : This is very different from the others... fits the theme as it makes me think of retirement and relaxing... Kinda sounds like the music all the cool kids used to listen to at school whilst I was listening to death metal. A cracking set of entries, but In the end it was a toss up between lurksalot and Dad3353. I really liked how the vocals fit in with the tune in lurksalot's piece but Dad3353's just won out for me. It's just such a jolly tune, conjours images of dancing and the seaside... love it and it gets my vote this month
18. Bit too traditional looking for me....
19. Come on guys everyone knows how BC works... All the gear you currently own = unsurpassed quality & tone, the best gear ever made at any price point. All the gear you don't own = rubbish, pointless and only for people who don't understand how good your current gear is.
20.
We'll play anywhere that will put us on and pay us enough to make the trip from Nottingham worthwhile. I would be happy to go back to the Underworld, the venue was great and just because The Meteors were total arses doesn't mean we won't be playing there again. Despite all that happened the promoter did well out of the gig and he seemed to like us. However the most likely place we'll be playing next in London will be the 12 Bar where everyone can get up close and personal with Mr Venom!
Well the next time your down we'll be there, Mrs C is a fan of men dressed like Mr Venom is in your picture above... personally I haven't got the legs for it
21.
Thanks! Unfortunately no London gigs lined up at the moment - our last one was supporting The Meteors at Camden Underworld. However we are bound to be back in London at some point in the new year. Why not join our mailing list to get all the details in advance?
Good stuff... signed up so hopefully we'll catch you next time. Underworld is just around the corner, I read your review of that gig though and it sounded like the Meteors took the piss a bit, so I'm guessing you'll be playing somewhere else next time?
22.
The first leg of the Terrortones mini November tour saw us in South Wales. Great road trip complete with tunnel screaming to get to Neath on the Friday to play at The Duke. Very strange place (even by our standards). Looked completely closed from the outside. Inside appeared to be lit by 2 bulbs for most of the evening. Stage was one of the most rickety I've ever been on and that included one with holes in it that we were on this time last year… For a while it looked like we might be playing to just a handful of locals but it started to fill up just before we went on stage (and even more just after we came off - had we known we might have delayed playing for another 30 minutes or so). There was no support band so we were a little worried that people might leave before we played, but cheap drinks and what appeared to be a total lack of anything else to do in Neath meant that everyone stuck around for the whole evening (thank you). Played a great set and didn't mess up the new song. Sold T-shirts and vinyl afterwards and headed in Swansea for some late-night drinking where surprisingly we sold more vinyl to people who hadn't even been to the gig! We were being put up by Ma and Pa Venom for the weekend, so had a leisurely Saturday stumble around Mumbles before heading off to our second gig at The Mason's Arms in Llanelli. Awesome support band called Texas Flood. Played less well than the night before but a bigger and more enthusiastic audience made the performance more fun. Managed to find a dirty kebab after the show and avoid getting beaten up for looking too weird. There's a whole load more gigs this week, mostly Midlands and Yorkshire, with full details here so if you are in the area it would be great to meet some more Baschatters!
Mrs C would love you guys... this is just her sort of thing, with the live show and everything. Do you have any Central London venues on your circuit?
23. I have been using the M80 for a year or so now for lugging my bass from gig to gig around London's public transport system and it's taken everything I can throw at it... knocks, drops, rain and the rest, not a scratch on any of my basses. Very comfortable for walking around too and as it sits lower than your average gigbag on your back its not as much of an issue getting through doors etc. (although I'm 6'1" so it might be an issue for others as has been mentioned) Only thing I will say it is it pretty heavy and bulky... I think if I was going for a new one I'd get the vertigo.
24. Got to agree with the above really... £1500 would go a long way with someone like ACG. Depends what you're after really though? If you've not got a solid idea of what it is your looking for in a bass then maybe take a bit of time to mull over the basses you played on Sunday... then maybe the next time you'll have a better idea of what it is you want to jump out at you.
25.
I can understand 'a bird in the hand' and all that, but it seems a bit harsh on the guys still on the plane . . .
Yes one of the guys on the plane could have been even better...
