1.
There's nothing in the manual to say what the cut-off is, and interestingly the filter doesn't appear anywhere on the block diagram. It's definitely there though, and a great job it does too.
Yeah it's weird that there is no mention of it in any of the literature.... almost like it s a secret they don't want everyone to know...
 2. I think the Genz has a high pass filter on the input that cuts any very low frequencies, similar to a thumpinator. I'm unsure of the cut off frequency but I'm sure someone else will know. It could be that the MB does not have this and so the very low frequencies are moving the cone more at volume?
 3. This pretty much sums up the general attitude to bass... just play the same as the guitar but an octave lower....
 4. Bit of advice needed here chaps... If I run a line straight from the DI out of my head to the desk and the soundguy (accidentaly) fires 48 volts of phantom power down the line can this damage my amp?
 5. The handle wouldn't bother me as much as the honky mid range would...
 6. Which PC cab have you got? I'm currently running a pair of 112Ts and they can go ridiculously loud!
 7.
I mean 2000 - 2009. Isn't this known as 'the time of the chunkiness'?
I'm much chunkier now than I was during that period....
 8. I walk past this pub on my way home from work... looks like a good reason to pop in
 9.
Ha yes, I have been looking... but again I've probably spent too long saying 'it's got to be white'. One wonders how many incredible basses have passed me by because they're the 'wrong' colour...
Yeah it's difficult to break the habit with what you want a bass to look like.... I've probably missed out on some cracking single cut basses with gold hardware due to vomiting when I first saw them...
 10.
The singlecut thumb actually has a killer tone and a very wide string spacing (nice for some). I've had a play on one, but don't - and wouldn't - own one myself. Not because it's a singecut, but because it's too damned expensive and weighs as much as a small cow.
yeah I bet it sounds great... I've got a thumb on the way myself. I just can't get over the aesthetics of a single cut though...
 11.
Arrgghh, save me Jebus!! Come on Rob, I know I said I want to get away from judging a book by its cover, but credit me with just a little taste and discernment! Having said that I'd probably play out the SC at a push... but definitely not the other one!
OK sorry... Just to restore the balance I understand they also do some white ones...
 12. or this one...
 13. Not this one...
 14. I have D'Addario flats on my P as well, they sound fantastic and I can't see myself having anythng else on it now. I did try some fender flats on my J but to be honest they didn't really work for me.
 15.
Worn frets. Noisy electrics. Mashed heads on bridge adjuster screws.
Why would he want any of those things?
 16.
that's how I decide between meals when I'm struggling to pick at a restaurant....
Mrs C suffers terribly from this issue... actually it's not really her that suffers, I do as a result of her affliction... It's ridiculous... Sometimes I've choosen, eaten three courses, had some port, told myself an entertaining after dinner ancedote and ordered a Cab home before she's decided on a starter...
 17.
Well that's good, thanks. I see also that one of the differences between Stage I and Stage II is the string spacing. I like wide spacing, which would point to a Stage I... but apparently the Stage II is a beast, sound-wise. What's your Legend like?
I had a corvette fiver which was very very tight on the spacing, too tight for me. The thumb I've got coming is 17mm which is a little wider than my legend so will be fine. I understand they do broadnecked versions of several models too which would be ideal. I like the legend, it's served me well but it really doesn't sound like a warwick, its much more polite, cleaner and synthetic. The warwicks (and i'd imagin full blown spectors) have a lovely woody core tone to my ears, which is much more open in the mids.
 18. In my experience they all sound pretty similar, they definitely have a signature sound, I've tried a few different flavours over the years and they've all had that woody growl. I've got a thumb on it's way (when paypal finally pays the seller instead of getting interest on my money). Only thing to be a bit careful of is the string spacing, it can get a little tight for my liking on some models. I think you'll like the sound, they are very ballsy.
 19. That looks interesting, kinda like a fat curbow shape...
 20.
I'm not the best at the technobabble. I've tried to make it a real-impressions type of write up.
That's why its good we can all look through spec lists for the techno stuff...
I would definitely suggest trying one before pulling the trigger on the Blue Soul. I considered this amp more than once during the 18 month wait, but was strongly 'steered' towards waiting for the Aurora. I am soooo glad I did.
But waiting is far to sensible... My Blue Soul GAS has been a slow burner and been nagging at me for a while, think I'm going to pull the trigger. Hopefully I'll get a chance to give one of these a go at the bass show next year if Vanderkley have a stand again, so that will be my chance to give the Aurora a proper blast and decide, having lived with the Glock for a while, what works best for me.
 21.
Here it is folks: I am using the Aurora with the Vanderkley 212MNT cabinet. I haven't tried any other cabs, but the amp certainly sits well with the 212 arrangement. Everything about the Aurora just screams QUALITY. Right from the point of opening the shipping carton, the customer is presented with a really well made (and colour-matching!) carrying case for the amp. In the case are the amp itself, a high quality mains lead with Powercon connector, and a pair of 19" rack ears (more on that later). It then became a race to get it plugged in, really. The amp is rated at 700W into a 4ohm cab such as to 212. It seems like all 700 of those watts are present in the box, but in a very 'disciplined' manner. I am used to a TC RH450, which always felt a bit pushed. The Aurora feels so, so capable in comparison. The amp has a 0dB, -12dB, and Mute switch, of which I use the 0dB with the Overwater Bass. The next stage is the 5-band EQ. I tried some startup settings during my first play through the Aurora (some Bass boost, a little Mid, and some Treble boost) because this was my default TC setting. Then I pretty much immediately switched to EQ off, via the front panel switch, simply because the Aurora has no need of EQ. The sound, right across the range, is full, and clear as a bell. (not a Glockenklang bell, just better! ha ha). The Aurora has an Effects loop facility on the back panel, and a dry/wet Mix knob on the front, as well as a switch to select Loop Off/Loop On+/Loop On-. The Loop On- function 'reverses the phase of the effects loop to minimise loss of bottom end signal'. I have not tried this function yet, because I havn't utilised the effects loop. One day soon though readers! The amp also has a Loop Dry/Wet Mix control knob. The CVD (Continuously Variable Damping) knob is next. This alters the damping factor of the Aurora amp and influences the relationship of the amplifier/speaker combination. At one end of its adjustment, the CVD give a very clear, hifi-like sound, whilst at the other extreme, gives a more 'woolly' sound, if that's your thing. Finally, moving across the front panel, there is the Master volume knob, and three LED's for Power On, -3dB, and Limit. Your ears will bleed long before the -3dB is reached, and will explode if the Limit light comes on. Or maybe implode? There can be no doubt that this is an expensive piece of equipment. And of course there will be the haters, who would say they would 'never spend that much on an amp'. Well, I did. And I waited 18 months for it to hit the market. And you know what - it was worth every pound, and every day of waiting, because it is simply that good! The design is bang on the mark, the performance is awesome, and it is red! Highly recommended. Beware, anti-GAS trousers are essential! RK p.s. I've made a sleeve for the amp to live in. It perfectly matches the dimensions of the 212MNT. A 19" rack overhangs the cabinet, and looks like a weird narrow T shape. Not nice. However, using the sleeve meant I had to reduce the width of the rack ears to get it to fit. It felt a bit strange taking bits out of the box and hacksawing them!! Now, having done all this, I don't especially want to hide the amp away in a sleeve. Doh!
What a top review, great stuff. I am very tempted indeed.... I think my Blue Soul GAS is going win out but I'd love to have a good demo of this at battle volume.
 22. Surely surgery can wait? BC expects... Hope you get well soon Looking forward to your review when your feeling better, I've got serious GAS for one of the glock class D heads at the moment but this could possibly throw me a curve ball....
 23.
This is the bit I hate more than anything else - I'd rather not play than spend my time kissing arse with a bunch of people I'd otherwise have nothing to do with.
+1
 24.
I have an American Special, a 2012 honeyburst. The neck is fantastic and it's a great all round bass. Weighs 8.5lb, great balance, beautifully put together, and the hand rubbed stain finish on the alder body gives it a lovely organic vibe. I've made a few mods: Dunlop straplocks, a mint green scratchplate, tug bar, and Hipshot Lollypop HB7 tuners. Really happy with how it's turned out. I posted these pics in another thread, but they're worth showing again
That's a beauty...
