Depends on how much time you have to dedicate to music? I find with work and family commitments I only really want to be doing two rehearsals a week (one at the weekend usually and one week night evening), so thats two bands at a time for me, plus a few other bits and bobs that don't require a regular commitment.
It is, but...it's way down there somewhere. A guy on another forum was asking about tuning to low E which is more or less on the limit of what the human ear can hear. All this assumes you can find cabs designed to handle such low frequencies.
It must be a seriously flappy string? Also having your EQ set to make the F# audible must compromise the tone over the rest of the strings. I don't mean to be critical of ERBs, I play a sixer myself, I just don't really see a low F# being of any practical use

Is a low F# even audible?

Great stuff... what a little treasure trove of information.
I had a Vox am plug. Fell to bits. I use my Boss Micro BR for practice now. You can play along to MP3, record rehearsals and gigs, it is a 4 track recorder so you can record ideas or full tracks, it has a built in drum machine, it has a built in mic and you can plug in a stereo mic too. Love it. Fits in the pocket too. For the money I think it is a brilliant piece of kit.
I have a BR-80.. it's an excellent bit of kit, very useful for recording ideas etc. I think I'd have to say it's the best value piece of music equipment I have ever bought. -
That looks fantastic... Did you go for the filter pre?

E-Series MIJ Precision. Look OK? See post no. 12

Dunno if my Jap P is an E series? (serial E956566 which according to the guitar dater wotsit was made at fujigen between 84 & 87). Not sure about the PB thing but mine has PB-557 stamped on the neck and body? -
I can't see the need for CDs / DVDs in this day and age... They just take up space on a shelf. With spotify etc you have instant access to pretty much anything ever released. CDs are an obsolete format, things have moved on and I think its for the better... I never had any interest in album artwork / lyrics or any of that prephiery stuff, it's always been about the sound of the music for me.
Check out Yves Carbonne http://m.youtube.com...h?v=hPwMoiKaNOY
No sound card in the works PC unfortunatly... he looks like he can reach fairly well though, his thumb must be at a funny angle on the back of the neck when he's playing the business strings though, I guess you could get used to it... Anyone play one standing up? must be damn heavy... -

CamdenRob replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
While nothing is sure yet, Thomann has told me that it's possible that in the future they will sell Harley Benton basses with even more than seven strings. (I mentioned nine and eleven string basses in my enquiry).
I've little experience of ERBs really having only tried out a Seven breifly but I'd imagine that with any more than Seven (possibly Eight at a push) strings you would be unable to reach around the fretboard to play it in the conventional manner, meaning it would essentially become a tapping instrument? I can't see them displacing instruments played in the conventional manner but I guess they could be fun as a curiosity... -
I won't be a part of anythng where i don't have total control over what I'm playing, if they don't like my basslines they can find another bassist... If I was playing bass for a living then I'd play whatever the person paying me wanted... but I'm not. I'm playing original music for fun and playing basslines someone else has written does nothing for me.

Although I'm mainly a six string player and all my current basses are filling the void until my Wal arrives next year, I'm a recent convert to P basses and Fender styles in general, having avoided them for many years seeing them as a bit 'old hat'. I have been playing a jazz on and off this last year and I've recently acquired a P and I have to say that I have found the P very useful. I've got flats on it and rolled the tone right back for use with some of the acoustic bands I work with, it really does have a unique sound and I think it works very well in the acoustic environment... I am however moving the jazz on... not because it's a poor instrument, far from it but I can't find a time I would be using it over my sixers.
