In my early bands we often played to just the other bands and their girlfriends... No excuses here though, the reason no-one came was because we were sh*te... -
Less than a year to go for mine!

Is there a danger of these pinging out of your amp under tension and twonking you in the nuts?

Why do people get so upset? its only the internet
You can analyse forum etiquette and psychology but just remember you have probably, just like the person you are engaging with deliberately chosen to adopt a pseudonym so that you remain completely anonymous. You just can't apply or expect normal social etiquette when both parties have deliberately chosen not to be identified.
Indeed... my username gives no clue whatsoever as to either my name or where I live..... -

I just can't get on with the B string going to that tuner.... I know it's all about tension (or something) but it just looks ridiculous... like you've sent the strings to the wrong tuners...
No one in your band or the audience will care what badge your bass is wearing as long as it doesn't sound bad.
Actually in my experiance it's the other guys in the band that care the most about you having a bass that says Fender on the headstock... I've been to a number of auditions where it's expected that you'll play a fender... obviously I never join those bands once I've found out they are more concerned with what they look like than what they sound like, but still it does happen alot. I agree that no-one in the audience cares but quite a few bands would turn their noses up at anything other than a Fender.

I'll take an Emerald Green Fretless Jazz with the matching headstock please.....
-
Nice... my sixer is due next month, looking forward to finally getting hold of it! Out of interest what are the four little holes in the back? looks like they are behind the pickup?
@OP before you consider buying different gear, how about posting a picture/detailed description of how you normally set the EQ and whether you use the deep setting and subharmonic generator on your amp. You may not need to buy anything at all.
This sounds like a good idea to me... Half the battle is learning how best to use the gear you currently have.

Damn.. knew I'd dithered too long... That is a beautiful bass, how does it play?
-
It's been said many times before, but I have to concour that from the squiers I have tried recently, they really are perfectly serviceable instruments for not very much money. When I first started the basses you could get as your first instrument were truly shocking... Standards have been driven up at the budget end.
But I do have faith. In people.
I used to have faith in people... but that was before I spent any length of time on public transport.....

Another cab would be the best solution volume wise... more speakers will move more air and you'll be putting out the full power of your amp... But it will be something else to carry obviously. Those trace cabs are bloody heavy though.. I'd replace it with modern neo 212.

I have the mono M80 with the extra little bag on the front (guitar tick or something they call it) Enough space for my folding stand, all my tools an extention lead and some gaffa tape, plenty of compartments too. Best thing is it attaches to the gigbag so I've got everything on my back, leaving one hand free to carry my pedalboard and the other hand free so I can waggle my finger at youngsters when I'm grumbling at them....

Back to playing after little break (Excited!)

I had ten years out..... Glad to be back now though Although first time around I seemed to be perfectly happy with one bass.... -
I reckon there is a fair chance that will be rubbish....

I nearly bought a very similar looking Roscoe Sixer on the bass direct stand at the London bass show. Asides from the excellent build quality the thing that struck me was the weight... it was one of the lightest bass I've ever played.
You not pulled the trigger on that yet Rob? Get it bought! You won't regret it..... +1 on trying the Squier CV's
I'm trying to resist.... the guy selling it lives about a mile from my house as well
And quite right too. Ringpull technology is awesome - I remember watching an OU programme all about it many years ago and it involved a lot of materials science theory concerning cold fracturing of the aluminium around the ringpull and all the associated quality control to ensure reliability and repeatability. Now, where did I leave my anorak . . . . ?
Its very important... a slight miscalculation and you run the risk of someone ending up with flat Tizer... -
However, I've found this thread interesting as it raises some issues around forum etiquette/psychology. It highlights the variety of what people are thinking when they post, and I've found it a useful avenue of getting to know others in this community that bit more. I know enough about Basschat that some members won't give a sh*t about that, but that knowledge in itself is useful for knowing who to engage with on certain topic, and how to go about it.
I'm mainly here for the ringpull stuff if I'm honest.... -
I'm also tempted by P basses at the moment... I'm thinking 63AVRI in faded sonic blue.. yum. Or maybe an old Tokai Hardpuncher. Someone put a thread up of the squire CV yesterday, it looked lovely.

As I am not a religious man I have absolutely no idea how you would have arrived at this decission. Could you not control the whole idols thought process without resorting to total abstinence of something you enjoy? Bottom line though... Whatever the reason may be, give up if you want to give up and keep playing if you don't.. If you decide further down the line to take it up again then do that Sod what everyone else thinks, do whatever you like.
