1.
When i lived in the country it was long before karaoke was invented. The highlight was the annual wellie wanging competition followed by booting a pig's head from one village to another. Them were the days!
I'd live there now if the country was still like that... nothing wrong with a good wellie wang...
2. Played a beer festival in Walthamstow on Sunday... never played outside before, couldn't see the display on my tuner properly... although that could possibly be more related to the free beer tokens as opposed to the bright sunlight....
3. Karaoke seems to attract all the weirdos... when I lived out in the country, nothing filled our local pub quicker than karaoke night.... People used to come from far afield especially. My favourite was watching a guy wailing his way through some Phill Collins classics, frequently dropping to his knees, tears rolling down his face with the shear emotion of it all... playing to about six people...
4.
....sometimes when I arrive, I look at the amp settings the player before me left and think "WTF?" to myself
I get this too. I wonder how the amps survive some of the settings I've found them with... Its usually bass on 10, treble and mids on -10, volume and gain on 10... Must be utterly inaudible.
5. All of my gigs are in London and I get to them on public transport so taking an extra bass isn't really an option... If I was driving I'd definitely be taking a backup.
6.
I just take valve oil for my Tuba.
Yeah taking a back up tuba is overkill in anyones book.....
7.
Not usually aroused by Fenders but this is lovely. GLWTS.
I'm not wanting to let it go if I'm honest.... It's lovely but I'm mostly playing sixers these days so it's just sitting there in it's case.
8. Bump!
I'm awaiting to see what funds I have in July. If this is still available then & I do get the funds I'm hoping for, then I'd be very interested.
It might well still be here... bit more interest at the latest price but nothing concrete yet.
9.
I think Thomann have them in atm. I hope you like it after all my ranting! *Worry*
I've had one on the radar for a while... your review just pushed me closer! It really does look like a lot of bass for the money.
10.
At this price you don't need to do much justification! Using the traditional 'with-and-without-the-bass-on-the-bathroom-scales-method', I calculate a weight of 10.2lbs. Is this heavy for a five-string? It has a certain physical presence, but doesn't feel like a boat anchor... YMMV of course.
Thanks for that... that's not too bad really for a fiver. I'll have a look around at the weekend and see if anyone has one in stock I think.
11. How heavy are these chaps? I might get one for gigs in some of the 'less salubrious' venues I play at.... (this is the closest I can get to a justification for buying one)
12. It's a rare thing that bass players share anything with our musical counterparts... but all of us, bassists, singers, guitarists, kazoo players... we are all at the mercy of the drummer... It is far easier to ruin a tune as the drummer than it is playing anything else...
13.
One observation that I don't think anyone has made yet: Being an excellent bass player isn't a massive benefit to most bands. If you were an excellent almost anything else, you would be more valuable.
It's worth noting though that an excellent bass player doesn't necessarily mean one that plays complicated overbearing basslines... Sometimes all it takes is root notes. I think recognising when not to overcomplicate things is one of the most important aspects to bass playing. I'd argue that a great bass player with a feel for what to play and when would be of enormous benefit to any band... although obviously no-one would notice how good the bass player was if the singer wasn't up to the task. Your right about drummers as well.... so important to find a good one...
14.
And yes, if I really liked Coldplay and the bass gig came up, you bet I'd take it. Regardless of the money...
I'd take it regardless of the fact it was coldplay if the money was right...
15. Price drop to £450 collected from Camden...
16. "John Liffen holding the only surviving section of the Science Museum’s exponential horn" I am too old to find this amusing.... but I still do...
17. Coldplay.... the magnolia paint of the music world... Wouldn't mind being £1 behind him though.
18. That is a seriously good looking instrument.... if I could possible justify having one I'd have bought one of these by now... although I might just get one anyway....
19. Lovely... if anything of mine goes I'd have this. GLWTS
20. I've never really been into covers or tributes personally, preferring to play originals... however... Would I rather play bass in a covers band for the same money I currently get for sitting in the office for 50 hours a week? Yes i would ... So I guess I'd better stop moaning about covers bands really.
21. I have the slightly newer BR80... which looks very similar... It's a excellent piece of kit as I'm sure this is. Can't go wrong for £80.. bargain!
22. I have been given a final completion date of 15th of July... We shall see.
23. PC Cabs turned up yesterday, very pleased so far, full gig workout next weekend.
24. Good price that for a MK II fiver... GLWTS
