1. She looked offended but I think secretly she was in awe of my coolness.... My cheese roll tastes funny....
2.
The fact that you and I know this means 'wicked' is well past its sell-by date and we are not cool at all! And I am assured that being old and incredibly uncool is NOT in any way cool in itself, so there's no getting away from it - we're finished!
Its not true!... I'm sure there must be a vestige of coolness left in me somewhere I just have to try harder. I'm going out to get my lunch in a minute I'll tell the girl in the cafe her cheese rolls are sick... that'll prove I've still got it.
3. Yeah I am just about cool enough to know 'wicked' as an adjective meaning good... although I'd feel a bit silly using it myself.
4. I must admit I'm out of touch with the terms people use for describing stuff these days... I had the following conversation with a drummer the other day who is both younger and much trendier than I am.... Drummer "that bass line is sick" Me " oh sorry.. I thought it fitted quite well" Drummer "Naah man it's sick" Me "Well give it a chance to grow on you, I really think it'll work" Drummer " naah it's sick as in bad ass..." Me "bad ass....? So my bassline is like an ass related ailment?" Drummer "man your out of touch"
5. These guys have been looking for a bass player for ages... they have posters up in all the rehearsal studios around here. They seem pretty proactive in trying to get a band together... just haven't found the right beast yet it would seem.
6. Bump! Last one before Ebay at the weekend...
7. No boobs no vote
8. I read this thread title as meaning you wanted to put a preamp in your bass to make you sound like discreet... I think he plays a P bass, get one of those instead...
9.
That decking is going to look fabulous when it's finished Rob. Four grand though?
Yes I'm going for a bit of a B&Q vibe with my basses at the moment... Apperantely it has to sit for a month or so longer then the fingerboard goes on.
Looking good Rob! Yeah, mine came trundling out of High Wycombe in '92 or '93 - I've forgotten when exactly!
This time next year mine is due. I'm going to see Paul a bit further down the line to sort out what top I want... quite like the idea of choosing from a seasonal selection.
10.
I don't think you'd like my Wal probably... it's got a quilt maple top, five strings, gold hardware and midi. Oops!
Your sounds a bit further down the line than mine... mine currently looks like this.... Only a year to go! *Edit* I'm also not a postman....
11.
There seems to be quite a bit of resentment coming out in a few of the posts on this topic. I'm closer to the end of my playing career than where I began. That fact alone makes me quite sad, but I have quite a few years ahead of me to enjoy yet. I have a few basses, only a couple of which could be arguably considered high end. I don't consider them to be, but others might. None are custom to my spec, so I don't look at them that way. I have worked and played bloody hard over the years to earn the money to pay for what I have. I am considering ordering a Wal, which I guess some would consider "high end". I will pay for it outright with my own money, which I earned. It might have gold hardware. It might not. It might have a quilted maple top. It might have an ebony fingerboard. I don't know. I haven't decided yet. I know I'll have fun putting the finer details together if it happens and I know I'll enjoy playing it even more. I also know that I won't give a flying f*** what anyone thinks of me when I turn up down my local with it for a Saturday night pub gig. I'm not a postman and I don't have a swimming pool.
Yeah thats pretty much it really...
12. It doesn't actually take very long to get to a high enough standard technically to write good music...
13. A little OT, but I find the idea that how difficult an instrument (or a piece of music) is to play being an inidcator of it's quality a little bizarre... I'd be more impressed by a guy that can write a good tune with the only three chords he knows how to play, than someone who can copy note for note complicated solos someone else has written...
14. Too far for me and I'm too old but I love a bit of Will Haven... massively underrated band.. mind you their stuff post Carpe Diem is pants. Good luck with the search
15.
Matching headstock, lovely. I dont have room for two Jazzes but if I did, id be having this! really nice, GLWTS
It's a looker.. looks even nicer with the pickup covers on... although they do make it utterly impossible to play
16. Thats £50 a day... unlikely to get many takers.
17. I had one of those polytune mini ones for a while... then the footswitch broke so I got it replaced for another, three weeks later that one broke as well... now I have a TU2.
18.
Rob, what kind of deposit have you put down? Have you paid by credit card? I think when dealing with a sole trader people should be a lot more wary that these things can and do happen. If I was building an extension on my house I wouldn't hand £40k straight to a builder and tell him to build it when he's finished his back log.
I put down a 50% deposit as per the terms and conditions I was sent prior to ordering. I was not made aware of any backlog and quoted a buildtime of 20 weeks. I guess it is a lesson learned really, I won't be ordering again.
19. I'm not "demanding my bass" in fact I've been very understanding throughout... The issue is I am left unaware of these unfortunate personal issues untill months after a deadline has past. I have been promised several times that the bass will be complete and given a new completion date... when those dates pass without any information whatsoever I chase them up. When I eventually receive a reply to my emails asking where the bass is I'm made aware of a different personal issue... The entire ethos seems to be as if this is an agreement between two mates to maybe make a bass as a project sometime... not that of a business and a customer.
20. As some of you are aware, I have been affected by these issues personally having had an outstanding order for over a year. My bass was not part of any basschat competition deal and was ordered direct. Closing the original thread (along with closing this one soon I'd imagine) leaves no avenue for me to comment on what I feel is a relevent subject for many on BC. I'm sure people can make up their own minds objectivly when presented with the facts and my negative feedback is not going to make everyone who reads it steer clear of a future order, but it's important that people are aware of any issues. I have been civil with my posts and not made any personal attacks on Jon or any of his employees. Why are we censoring negative comments? I'd be happy to provide proof of everything I have posted to the moderating team if they required this...
21. His music never did anything for me... As a person I don't share others vociferous hatred... Can't say he's really made the slightest impression on my life, I've always just regarded him as a bit of a plonker...
22.
Hi this is Brent here , To me sir you sound slightly bitter ! even after Jon has explained (yet again) his circumstances. Is this a personal issue that im not aware of .... for i see no need to keep banging on about damage to the business otherwise. A lot of our builds are from returning customers already. If you look on the fb and website it is clear that business is good and our only issue is clearing up these things of the past and taking things to the next level. WE ARE NEXT LEVEL!!! Peace and love.
I think I'm entitled to be a tad bitter after waiting for three times the quoted timescale for my bass to arrive.
23. Fair enough.... Sounds like the buisness model going forward is going to be alot more sensible. Hopefully it isn't too late and the damage hasn't been done already with regards to repeat business from those currently having basses built...
24.
'Mature Fun Time'..
I only came here to say this and you already have....
