1. It's not good enough really... The end products look great, well made with some nice touches not available on other instruments. Also the price is very competitive for a custom build. But I won't be ordering again... The whole process is very disjointed, a number of times I've been told things will be progressing only for those dates to pass by without any explanation. The whole operation looks more like a hobby than a business. The poor comunication is unacceptable, it's a shame as the biggest issue could be so easily recitified by offering realistic buildtimes in the first place.
2.
How long have you been waiting?
A year today..... says 20 weeks on my invoice. I ordered a wal 5 months ago on a 17 month build time... I wouldn't be surprised if it arrives first.
3. They aren't busy building my bass thats for sure...... If they were it would be done by now.
4.
I would check the marketplace on here for an LS2, otherwise check out this guy to make you one.
I've been using a couple of those bright onion ones... good quality and made in a couple of days.
5.
Don't see the point unless there is an end goal. I might consider it worthwhile/paramount to gauge whether the unit has any chemistry and whether it will work, but there will be a plan and reason otherwise I wouldn't be interested. I don't do random jams.
This.
6.
just me so far then, I actually quit a band once because they insisted on doing a half hour jam at the end of every practice instead of going to the pub, annoyed the hell out of me
Well if it was eating into pub time I can understand.... I wouldn't stand for that either. I like a good jam but there are limits.
7. Depends how organised it is... If someone dectates a key at the start and actually sticks to it then the jam can move in so many differet directions it can stay interesting for ages. If someone starts playing random musically unrelated notes and expects you to play along then yes it'll be crap...
8.
I remember that CD, in fact I may still have it. It also had a demo of the bass for an Albert Lee song, as well as Walking on the Moon
Think it was country boy wasn't it? they had two versions one with the bass and one you could play along too if you were that way inclined... In fact I remember the blokes voice introducing it..."Albert Lees country boy with phil hilborne on rhythm guitar..."
9. I like having a physical magazine to read as opposed to looking at everything on a screen... I only buy it to look at the pictures / read the gear reviews really anyway, I've little interest in the interviews. I remember bassist magazine though, I seem to remember it didn't last long. One issue had a CD with it with containing a great track by the flanagan ingham quartet and a super cheesy version of blues for alice on a clifton upright... it had a doug wimbish track on it too... although I remember it was crap.
10. You'll be fine ... take ear plugs....
11. *Sold* Better tidy up this first post as the trades have changed somewhat... Trades for 5/6 string fretted basses or possibly a stingray 4 or 5 - no single cuts or gold hardware please - can adjust with cash either way. Ideally a trade in person, I could travel a reasonable distance for the right bass. 50th Anniversary Jazz Bass in Candy Apple Red Fender made a limited number of these in 2010. They have a unique feature set, with various bits and bobs from each decade. Looks and sounds fantastic and is probably the best all round bass I have owned, it has a lovely nitro finish which my terrible photography skills don't do justice. This has been my main bass for the last year and has a few dinks and scratches to show for it. It also came to me with a couple of knocks, nothing major just the odd chip here and there. Comes with the original case, the chrome pickup covers and the case candy.. although I'm not sure if it was originally supposed to have a polishing cloth which is now missing. Apologies for my naff photos.... You are welcome to come round and try the bass for a proper demo, I'm in Camden NW1.
12.
Nice looking bass. The bass in your avatar looks familiar, it's my Wal 6
Wow small world... It looks fantastic. I'm having one very similar built at the moment, still deciding whether to have it stained.
13. Bump again! A little interest but still available for now.
14. Thanks guys, it's a lovely bass, I don't really want to part with it but I need the funds.... Just paid for the Wal and it's left a considerable hole to fill! Guess it's not disastrous if it doesn't sell, I know I'm going to regret it down the line....
15. Looks nice that... I had a fretless curbow for a while. A lot of bass for the money I think.
16.
It always seems to me that there are lots of guitarists (and some bass players) who genuinely think that knowing some theory will somehow inhibit creativity. I think these people think that players that know theory are constantly thinking "right this is a Dm7 chord...so erm...right...what do the textbooks say I can play again?". The reality is that its not like that. Having a proper grasp of music theory is to music as spelling and grammar are to language. I don't conciously need to think about how to spell words, form sentences, or punctuate properly---it happens so quickly that its completely natural. Thats the end point of learning music theory---knowing what you're doing without thinking about it.
I couldn't agree more. I haven't visited this thread for a while and don't really need to read back through everything now, this post says it all...
17. Forgot I'd listed this.... Bump!
18. Lovely looking bass that... Mrs C says we need to buy a house so I'd better let it go....
19. I'd buy one.... Then again I'd buy almost anything if it was shiny...
20. *Sold* I'm almost exclusively playing sixers these days, so as nice as they are my Four string jazzes have got to go! 1984 Fender Jazz (83 serial number but 84 neck stamp) Pretty much flawless and all original. I have replaced the bridge saddles as the originals left the G string sitting slightly too close to the edge of the fretboard for my heavy handed technique. I've gone for some of those fender saddles with the grooves in... I will include the originals with the sale. Complete with OHSC which was mint untill UPS managed to crack the corner.... It's still perfectly serviceable just has the plastic cracked right through on one corner. Not looking for trades... need the funds...
21. I had a German Corvette $$ for a while that had a passive mode when you popped up the volume pot. It sounded great... I always though a fair proportion of the Warwick sound came from the preamp, but in passive mode it still had loads of mid range growl... bet it would have sounded great as a fretless.
22. Ah the old... 'only play root notes' chestnut... I've had that couple of times... the next sound they hear from me is the zip on my gigbag as I prepare to leave... If a band starts telling you what to play you have to nip it in the bud early, otherwise it'll just be you playing someone elses stuff... If they don't like your basslines they can find someone else.
23.
....and the keyboard player who stands behind me said the Peavey was making him feel physically sick and if I bring it to the next gig, he's going to set fire to it on the car park...
I admire this sort of direct approach... too many people beat around the bush with their opinions. There can be no doubting the seriousness of a man who sets fire to your amp in the car park...
24. I get that advert too... and one for Waitrose...
25. I always thought it was "VenGee"... Then again I'm often wrong and am likely to have based that pronunciation on something I once heard in a pub.
