Mono M80 serves me well for getting on and off buses etc... I got the extra little bag (guitar tick?) that attaches to it as well so I can fit a stand / extra few bits and bobs in as well. Its not too far above my head but I do have to take it off my back when I get on the bus. Only thing thats a bit odd is if your bass doesn't have the bottom strap pin in the middle of the bass the padding doesn't quite work right. I'm sure there are other options but it works for me.

COG is going from strength to strength by the looks of things.. Good stuff.
I see you point, although I don't agree with it. Say, for example, you have a bass for sale at £850. It has been on the classifieds for several months, with nothing but half a dozen of the usual "if it had one more string/if it was a different colour/if I had the money I'd be all over it..." kind of responses. I send you a PM saying that I would like your bass, but could only stretch to £750. Do you: 1). Ignore my post as I am clearly trying it on and therefore beneath your contempt? 2). Politely refuse my offer and say that you will only accept the full price (potentially losing a sale)? 3). Politely refuse my offer, but agree to a compromise price of £800 (again, potentially losing a sale, but at least entering into the spirit)? 4). Tell me in no uncertain terms to F off as I am a low-balling scumbag? Not trying to be confrontational, I'm just genuinely interested in what the problem would be with a bit of friendly haggling? Most of my sales and purchases to date have involved a bit of haggling - even the trades!
I'd go for number two... hoping that you wouldn't come back saying "OK well maybe I can stretch to £775? £780? £781.47?" Even worse than the haggle is those who offer a random collection of stuff for your bass. " Hi I don't have £850 but I do have a 112 cab, two old squire necks, six patch cables, a cover for an amp I don't own and a fez... how does that sound?"

Can't stand haggling... Put it up for what you want for it, this is the BC marketplace not a souk in Marrakech...
Does the MB200 only have a single gain know to adjust the overall level?
I have an MB200 that I run into a small 4 ohm cab for a rig that I can easily take on the bus. The gain basically acts as a volume, it won't break up like a preamp gain. I think it's a tremendous little amp, sounds very modern though... All in all though it's one of the best value bits of gear I've ever had.
I would describe my self as a 'barely out of nappies' when it comes to basses. I am comfortable playing most stuff with root notes and I am starting to put my own passing notes, flourishes in (some work, some don't). I started on my ibby SR300 which I love. However I love the look of the dingwalls. I am considering getting a combustion at some point in the coming months but I am terrified. Dingwalls (perhaps uniquely) are recognisable because of the fan frets and they look like they cost alot. Fenders for example - unless you know your stuff could have cost anywhere from £250 second-hand to £XXXXX depending on the year. So if I turn up to play a dingwall everyone - bass players and non-musicians (lets call them "muggles") will be thinking - 'wow that bass looks cool - he must be really good!' I am clearly going to embarrass myself by the obvious void between their expectation and my playing ability! So its almost like I feel I haven't outgrown my 'beginners' bass but I want to treat myself anyway. I know it shouldn't matter but you know what snobs musicians can be like - even some of my best mates (mostly guitarists) talk about each others musical short comings behind their backs and in one sense I don't want them to think I am 'too big for my boots' or that I have an over inflated picture of my capabilities but I try to just look at it that the more I enjoy playing the bass the better I will get and quicker!
Sod what anyone else thinks, buy and play whatever bass you think works for you as a player
-
To be honest, with the quality of new budget instruments being as it is these days and even better value for money on the cheaper end of the second hand market, I don't think you can really "outgrow" an instrument that would allow you to perform at the top level and sound great doing it... if you had the required ability to be a top player of course... However expensive basses are beautiful things to own and like any other luxury goods they are desirable... GAS is a terrible mistress... You don't need a top end bass... In fact unless your playing bass to put food on the table you don't need any bass at all... but shiny new things are nice to have
-
I actually think it's the opposite problem and a lot of the issue is overpricing... Not with the cheaper end but with top end gear. There are a couple of lovely sixers on the BC marketplace at the moment which I think are way overpriced and hence have no interest in buying. I see a lot of basses advertised with the RRP in the listing. This is all well and good but these basses are never sold at the RRP. If I see a bass up for £2200 and a quick google search reveals the same bass going new for £2500 Its not going to raise my interest. Anyone with Two and a half grand to be spending on a bass is just going to spend the extra £300 and get a new one. It's only when something gets down to a much lower percentage of the new price that it becomes attractive to buyers. In short if you don't need to sell it, just put it up for what you want and be prepared to wait for someone who wants that exact bass to come along... Otherwise, put it up for a good discount off the new price and you'll get interest from people who might not ordinarily have looked twice at it. Well priced stuff sells. I've sold three basses on the marketplace this last year with no trouble at all.

It'll also come in handy should the need arise to anchor a cruise ship...

I’m not sure why my original post seems to be causing confusion? I shall attempt to expand a bit… My current Rig (of two 212s) is a bit difficult to get around (hard to fit in cars etc.) it is also 1200watt which is VERY loud. So by “Rig to Big” I am inferring that my current setup is both larger and louder than I currently need (not playing enormous outdoor gigs anytime soon) I acquired it at a very good price in the recent Genz Benz deals featuring at several major bass gear retailers. However it really is too “big” for my requirements, hence the thread title. Despite the apparent difficulty, those who have managed to see through the impenetrable fog of confusion and made suggestions of swapping one of my 212s for a 112 or even going down to two 112s, I appreciated your input and it has has given me much food for thought… which was the point of the thread in the first place. I shall attempt to be clearer in future and not post threads with light-hearted simplified titles.

Even allowing for the political voting and the "no-one likes the British" thing, if it was in any way a genuine competition we've have been missing out for the last few years, as the acts with the lowest few votes in the main contest are relegated and have to qualify the next time around.... Except we don't have to do that, because along with Germany, Spain, France and Italy we fund entire thing and are exempt from having to qualify.... Allowing for it being a total facre I still enjoy it immensely... I just wish we put a joke entry in every time as a big two fingers up to the 'all chums together' attitude, rather than pretending we have a chance....
Anyone know of an off the shelf 5 string bridge with an extended bit for the B string like some yamahas seem to have? I've got a Squier pro tone 5 and cant get the intonation right on the B, it's sharp and I've nearly run out of adjustment on the bridge, the other 4 strings are intonated fine. Don't know what else to do about it really...
Be interested to hear the advice on this... I've a similar issue on one of my basses.
If we wanna win, we need to roll out the very big guns. I don't mean Englebert or Bonnie ..... I mean Noel Gallagher or Adele or David Bowie or Morrissey. I suspect we could take a right go at it if One Direction agreed to go into it ......... although I really don't like their music or who they are. They would cause a big stir and have a shot at winning with some bubblegum pop song written by someone. I think the rest of the continent recognises that we don't take it seriously - so they don't take us seriously. We made a BIG mistake allowing Terry Wogan to talk down to the rest of Europe and belittle them for all of those years. They're getting us back for that - and quite rightly too. And Norton is doing the same thing. What are we thinking? Like anything in life, if you are going to enter something, do your absolute best. We're not doing that.
I think you've mistaken this for a genuine music competition? It will make absolutely no difference if Freddy Mercury comes back from the dead and we put him in. It is uttery impossible for us to win, everyone hates us.
It just goes to show you how tastes can differer, because I think that AJ Presentation model is absolutely beautiful, and have done right from the first moment I saw it. I like the way that essentially it is styled like an acoustic guitar, albeit a very big one. The new hollow body Fodera is even more exquisite. I need a 36 inch scale six string like I need a hole in the head , but I can't help but admire the aesthetic beauty of the design and the way that the body shape references the conceptual ideas behind that bass, i.e that it relies on its' acoustic properties more than its' electrical ones in order to produce its' remarkable tone. . Some of the other single cuts look good to me, too, like Richard Bona's bass.
Very true that... Taste is obvioiusly subjective but quality is undeniable. I can appreciate the craftsmanship that's gone in to a bass regardless of it's resemblence to an ironing board...
Ask Dave Swift - it's his bass I think, in his case, the answer is probably a resounding yes
Who's Dave Swift? To be honest I can't possibly knock a successful top end brand like Fodera. The aesthetics aren't for me, which being shallow puts me right off buying one before I've even played it, but that's obviously just a matter of preference. I don't think the quality of their instruments is ever in doubt. Also, being such a prestigious brand people gravitate towards them at shows like this to see what all the fuss is about.
