From memory when attending the first London Show. there was a café with long queues and high prices....I seem to remember a Tesco fairly close by however.

There is a pub across the street, the hand and flower I think its called. They do reasonable pub grub. You can get back in and out of the show too. I know as I bumped into Guy Pratt outside the venue having a crafty fag last year.

There is a Tesco outside, and a pub, and a small arabic restaurant IIRC, and a cafe at the venue (to be avoided). You are given a wristband and can come and go as you please (unless they've suddenly changed the rules).
Thanks guys, pub grub and a crafty pint or two it is then...
Depends whether or not you can get by all days on Oranges ...
I'll bring a packed lunch... these thing always feel a bit like a school trip anyway and it'll add to the experience.

Is there anywhere to eat at these events? or maybe get a beer? Is it one of those 'once your in your in for good' things or can you come and go with your ticket?

I've never had facebook... no point, I only know four people and I only like two of them.... Seems like a no brainer to have a band page though.
I leave about 4 inches past the tuner...

I cut the strings at about 4 1/2 inches
I've always been half an inch too short....

I'm just going to check out gear... zero interest in anyone playing, I haven't heard of most of them.
This is probably why it woks for me ...
Now that is cool.... something very pleasing about the shape and colours, excellent aesthetics for my eye... Looks nothing like a bass that came from Argos.

Gary bought my Warwick $$ fiver. No problems at all, no silly haggling over a price, whole deal was done and dusted in a couple of days. No messing around, job done Nice guy as well, worth doing a deal just for a chat about basses!

What is the best way to ship a bass by post?

I don't get Prog... at all sounds utterly lifeless to me... -
How does one go about trying out a bass...
CamdenRob replied to Cameronj279's topic in General Discussion
I've been paying attention to the etiquette of trying basses in shops recently and it would seem that the way to do it, is to sit in the most awkward position for everyone else in the shop, preferably in the middle of a small walkway between the door and the shop, then play 180bpm slap licks at ridiculous volume interspersed with the odd bit of tapping. Then whenever you hear anyone else asking the guys in the shop for advice, make sure you loudly offer your opinion on what they really want to buy instead.... This seems to be the way things are done. -

Bass has been picked up should be delivered by 9am tomorrow... please don't break it... -
Also, you get some right nutters at open mic nights... The other night a guy got up on stage and shouted some random rhyming words then sat down again... I don't even think he was mentally unstable, I think it was actually some kind of predetermined performance piece... oh and there is always a guy playing the spoons at some point...
So you reck it's a choice between a cheap DI pedal or an extra bass? Hmm...
I'd go with the behringer DI thingy... seems to get good reviews and cheap as chips It's got to be worth a call or email to the promoter / venue though to sus out whats going to be available on the night.

I occasionally do open mics around North London with Mrs C on vocal duties, doing arrangements of old folk / drinking songs with me on bass and looper...Most open mics have a basic PA, I just take bass and pedalboard and plug straight in. To be honest, as it's an open mic and not a gig, you look like a bit of a plonker if you bring loads of your own gear... It's only a couple of tunes usually and open mics are more about all the acts watching each other and having a few drinks. Bit pretentious to turn up with a full rig do your tune then leave...

It's probably been mentioned elsewhere before, but I find it ridiculous that you have to take out extra insurance to cover the value of what your shipping incase the courier breaks it... I have to pay extra incase they smash it to bits... How about they just don't smash it to bits? and if they do, take responsibility for it! -

Shipping my first bass today.... cocooned in bubblewrap, in a case which is also cocooned in bubblewrap, wrapped in thick cardboard with an entire roll of parcel tape holding it together, address and shipping label on both sides incase one gets torn off... Fingers crossed it makes it in one piece! -
I leave about 4 inches past the tuner then tuck the end in and wrap. I used to just tuck the end in and wind the entire string but I'm sure this lead to me shattering the B string tuner on my old Status, not sure if the tension is too great on the tuner or something? Although that may well be a load of crap, my scientific knowledge is limited to water boils when it gets hot.
I'm using a Genz Shuttle 3.0 at the moment - didn't realise that their might be an aux in the back
I recon it's probably got an Aux in... sure someone will confirm. Be a bit careful with the volume of the drum machine, mine clips if cranked to loud.
-
What amp is it? I plug a drum machine into the Aux In on the back of my shuttlemax.

Anaconda Basses at the London Bass Guitar Show
CamdenRob replied to Anaconda Basses's topic in Events
Looking forward to trying that sixer. Bringing my wallet despite Mrs C's advice to the contrary... although I'm also bringing Mrs C so producing said wallet could lead to an incident at your stand some time on Sunday ... apologies in advance. -
...what other people think is of little importance.
This is of course the bottom line... In bass as it is in life. Taste is subjective shock horror... Personally when I see a bass with gold hardware it makes me feel a little bit ill
-
What's the deal with gold hardware... It looks awful. There are two lovely sixers in the marketplace at the moment that are both ruined by a gold bridge and tuners, making a £2K bass look like it came out of a kinder egg. It's got to be in serious competition with the single cut as the worst crime against bass aesthetics. I know I could just change them but thats a faff and extra expense...
