Who played bass on 'Praise You' by Fatboy Slim?

Is that actually a bass guitar? I always thought it was some sort of triggered sound. -
With a waiting time of almost a year and a half, if you have a used one to sell, that is in good condition, you can charge a premium for the buyer to be able to own it now.
This... If the right 6 string MK III had been available on the second hand market I'd have bought that instead of ordering one.

Another two quality cables received yesterday. No problems as always.

I like the look of the one in the for sale section.... bit too steep for me though.
-
Yes, the top one is an octave above the bottom one.
....but you'd probably have to wait a year to get it.
It's 17 Months.... 15 to go
Dunno - I've seen many a bass player playing as though they were playing massive chords/dreadnought guitars. That looks like playing bass like a guitarist. imo.
Well if he was doing that then he's only got himself to blame...
After my gig on Sunday I was told that I play the bass like a guitar. I don't know how I feel about that
This is because bass players by and large are regarded by everyone who doesn't personally play music (and the vast majority that do) as failed guitarists... it's only got four strings, you don't play chords or widdly solos etc... hence when they see a good bass player you are seen to be playing bass like a guitar (ie. well)

Opinions on talking to audience between songs
CamdenRob replied to bonzodog's topic in General Discussion
I always think it looks a bit arrogant to not talk to the audience at all, just standing there playing expecting adulation... I'd stick to what you are doing currently, sounds about right -
It's a complicated thing this bass playing lark. In most modern styles of music the bass has moved beyond it's traditional role of filling the gap between the beat and the tune and become a melody instrument in it's own right. Personally I like to carry a bit of melody when there is space for it, however.... I am still a bass player... I still need to be providing the bridge between the rhythm and the chords, the glue holding everything together so a band sounds like a band and not a collection of soloists. If the 'niggling' is at the expense of holding the groove you might as well be playing guitar....

Not for me 810s.... The Aguilar one apperantly weighs 184lb thats over 13 stone....
I see plenty of cards in phone boxes and news agents windows in central London advertising services to do with discipline, mostly offered by women in leather wear. Maybe one of them could help you...
There is an establishment just over the canal from the gallery that offers these kind of specialist services under the guise of a massage parlour... ...so I've heard anyway...
My new office is around the corner from the Bass Gallery. Any tips regarding self discipline?
My house is around the corner from the gallery... I'm heading down there in a couple of weeks to try out the Vanderkley cabs when they come in. If you fancy a trip I'd value a second opinion.
Well yeah I know.... it's just y'know another precision and for £500 it'll be no where near as good as my Lakland so I won't use it - I'm kind of thinking I'll leave the next precision until next year and get a nice 70's one....
Fair enough... Maybe try something completely different to what you have then? you can always move it on if it doesn't work out... German corvettes don't go for much more than £500 these days... *edit* seem to have written the same thing twice...

looking to get a new cable which should I get
CamdenRob replied to gavin.bass78's topic in General Discussion
obbm is a good shout for all your cabling needs... You could buy a cheap cable but you'll have to buy another one when it breaks. Just go for the best you can afford from the outset -
I would say that you have answered your own question in your original post.
This... If your happiest with a P bass, get another one

One of these...

Guess it depends if the band is your main source of income... I have a career outside of music and as much as I take the music seriously, it will never be more important to me than my job. Unless it ever got to the point of paying me more than my current job, but until that point the life balence is firmly in favour of earning a living over the enjoyment I get from playing Bass.

Does this matter - Playing the same notes on different strings?
CamdenRob replied to bass2345's topic in General Discussion
As others have said, it depends what sound you want. Although the notes are the same there is a different quality to the sound (Timbre?) I play whatever sounds right for the feel I'm trying to achieve. An open A I find works better for punky type stuff and a fretted A on the E string is better for subby type slower passages, it's a bit like deciding whether to play over the bridge or neck pickup, same notes different sound. Personal preference really though. -
These are cheap and so effective - no excuses!
Now i am really confused. What is all of this I, bIII, VI, V, bVII ? Is that some different way of writing notation?
The numerals denote intervals of the major scale.... so in C : I = C, II = D, III = E etc... so a bIII in C would be a flat third interval Eb... flat thirds found in the minor along with dorian, phrygian and locrian modes... I just find it easier to talk about theory using intervals as then it's relevent to any key.
-
There seem to be two widely accepted "minor pentatonics." I think I, bIII, VI, V, bVII seems to be the most widely used - I only came across the I,II,bIII,V,bVI form recently. A popular "blues scale" is like the first example, but with the extra bV between the VI and V. (Yes, prepare to draw in breath sharply!) It fits surprisingly well if you're playing blues, but then in most blues the major/minor tonality is quite ambiguous as it is!
Ah I see... Thanks for that. Always good to learn something new.
-
ah I see sorry didn't realise a blues pentatonic was minor... would that be I,II,bIII,V,bVI then? whats with the bV? surlely that clashes pretty badly with the chords underneath? presumably you'd just notate it as an accidental? as it would fall outside the key of C if you played a Eb in A minor? I've only every played with modes, never bothered to use any pentatonics.
