1. I've only dealt with they guy over the phone... He seemed fine to me. To be honest I couldn't give a toss what he thinks about my gear choices... I wouldn't be going in there to make friends, I'd be there to buy bass gear. Why is everyone so sensitive.
2. Depends what type of music I'm playing... I feel most comfortable on 6 strings. Having said that I've got an audition for a folky type band tomorrow and the 4 string jazz will be coming with me as I feel the sound will suit the music better... Mind you when my 6 string Wal arrives I intend to be using that exclusively...
3.
The coolest thing you can do with a bass is actually learn how to play it in a musical fashion , not sling it round you ankles and look like you are trying to saw it in half with a plectrum.
This...
4. Need some more advice chaps... You guys are always very helpful with tech stuff. Having just seen a NBD thread from someone who has bought a new VM Squier I've a bit of an idea. The neck from one of these, On the body from one of these, I'm pretty useless with anything technical... would it literally be as easy as unbolting the necks and swapping them over? On a related note, anyone want a VM Jazz with a MP neck? Cheers Rob
5. I'd like to put that neck on the satin white modern player fiver.... anyone want the other half If I buy both bases?
6. That looks fantastic....
7. Never wish you were in Hull....
8. The handles are in a ridiculous position... I strap mine on a sack barrow along with my amp and pedalboard. - easy to wheel around and fits in a taxi
9. Are you perchance affiliated to the publisher of this app....?
10. Relicing is up there with gold hardware and the single cut on the list of things a bass guitar should never be subjected to...
11. Think I saw one of these on the GAK website a while back... very pretty, loving the white headstock.
12.
I always find slot held strings a pain when you need to do an emergency re-string, as the string keeps popping out of the slot until you've got some semblance of tension.
This... It's proper annoying...
13. Looks alright that... bit like those new Fender Dimensions. Got to be worth £45.
14. A bass being in demand is not necessarily a indication of it's quality....
15. The 1006j is a superb bass.. good luck finding one though, I had GAK looking for one for two months before they gave up chasing the only remaining one around Europe. I don't think they have made a batch for a few years.
16. I have a Tune WR-05 fretless, made in Korea. Really nice bass actually, slim neck, good solid build. I'd imagine this to be of similar quality. Black hardware on mine though... can't stand gold hardware, think it looks awful.
17. Congratulations, I'm sure it'll be an amazing bass, I've not played a Fodera but would like to. I recently came to a similar decision and ordered myself a Wal... Everything else I have tried pales in comparison to the Wals I've played, so I just thought sod the 18 month wait I'm going to go for it. I think sometimes you can dither about buying mid range bass after mid range bass when what you really should have done is gone for what you wanted in the first place...
18. Before I had a fiver, I played in a band that tuned down to C, although the guitarists were in drop I always stayed with the standard intervals starting from a low C... Whatever you feel comfortable with really though... Its the noise your making that counts not how you've got the thing tuned.
19. I got my ShuttleMax 12.2 for less than that new... Works for me and is seriously loud!
20. Are those comments not responses to the status updates that pop up down the side of the home page? Hence if you change your status then the old comments won't be making much sense?
21.
You might be in for a surprise... IME most responders to ads stop reading after the words "Bassist looking for a band/musicians" and just fire off a reply. The one time I tried this I spent all of my time listening to music that was completely and utterly outside of the genres that I'd listed as my influences; and then trying to come up with polite ways of saying "why didn't you actually read all of my ad you useless time-wasting numpty"!
Ah I see... thought it might be too good to be true...
Is there a 'do not want a covers band' filter?
I would have used it if there was...
22. Anyone else ever put an ad on gumtree looking for a new band to jam with? I just placed an advert and got Five responses within an hour.... Reading it back, my ad was pretty unfriendly as well (due to my generally unfriendly demeanor / unwillingness to compromise) If I'd have stipulated fewer conditions I may have got an even better response.... Good stuff very useful site. Looks like I have some listening to do over the weekend...
23. I'd use it as the deposit for a Wal...
24.
My first thought would be a G&L L2000 or L2500. Does a pretty good P-Bass, J Bass amd Stingray impersonation but with 36 different combinations of switches etc, it does have a sound of it's own. I always considered mine to be the "swiss army knife" of basses. I tried both the American and Tribute versions and couldn't tell much difference for the price.
This seems a fair suggestion to me, I had a L2000 Tribby for a while, very versatile....
