1. I picked up an Korean Spector legend classic 6 a little while back. It's an excellent instrument and should be about the same price as the ESP if you can find one used. Electronics are a bit scooped but very bright and modern... Fit and finish are as good as my Fenders / Warwick. I've got a custom Sixer coming at some point in the future (when they finally finish it) The original plan was to sell the legend but I think I might replace the pups and keep it. It really does play very well.
2. Played in a few bands that tuned this low back when I was about 14. I ended up tuning normally and just playing in the same octave as the guitars, as they were an indistinguishable mess anyway tuned this low, the bass was the only audible part of the music... still sounded sh*t though.
3. I really must make more of an effort to try different strings. I settled on D'Addario pro steels a while back and have ended up putting them on all my basses. They are OK and sound like I like strings to sound but there might be something better out there for me. Its just become a habit to order them really.
4. I've been to auditions for a few such promising sounding bands... Whilst they may want you to play something different to the guitars you will still be expected to play what your told too... A bass player writing his own bass lines what a ridiculous notion! now what you want to be doing is playing the root note of my (musically unrelated) chords... and preferably only once per bar.
5. I went for the couldn't give a monkeys option... In fact why am I even here?
6. Always loved a bit of J5.. plus that picture on the cover of quality control with the tree / turntable thing was cool.
7.
Sometimes Rob, it is necessary, whilst turning the screw, to also give the saddle a gentle nudge in the direction you want it to travel.
I'll give it a whirl tonight Thinking about it, I guess its pretty obvious that by moving the saddle back towards the bridge the distance between a fretted 12th fret and the saddle is longer so this will make the note lower...
8.
Sharp is short & flat is long if the harmonic is sharp the string is too short - you need to move the saddle further away from the nut. HTH John
and there it is... basschat comes up with the goods again. Thank you John, much appreciated.
9. Some more advice needed from you good people... I've recently replaced the bridge saddles on one of my basses and I need to adjust the intonation slightly on a couple of strings but I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing... The note at the 12th is sharp from the harmonic so which way do I need to move the saddle to compensate? closer to the bridge (making the string longer) or further away from the bridge (making the string shorter). Thanks guys.
10. Bought a Corvette $$ from 5thread. No problems whatsoever, bass arrived packaged to survive Armageddon (or even UPS). Trade with confidence.
11.

Wow... I'm usually a custom man but that looks fantastic...
12. I have five of these... Just sort of got into the habit of using them. I'm not sure which way round you are supposed to have them though? is the mono decal supposed to be facing your bass or away behind you? Also, I agree with the length thing... the short is only just short enough.
13. What have they done to it I cannot unsee this
14. It wouldn't work with Am... A natural minor is a white note scale A,B,C,D,E,F,G,A those sharps would clash with even a regular Am triad A,C,E. Do whatever sounds good to you though that's the main thing Bizarre scales are often fun when jamming stuff on your own but in a band situation you need stuff that conforms to a key signature so others can easily compose their bits. Otherwise its a bit of a freeforall and a poor bass player who can't stray too far from the root without a nasty discordant clang...
15. Its nothing Diatonic, the gap between the 1st and 2nd step is a tone and a half... you get this interval on a harmonic minor though when you sharpen the 7th so maybe its based on that? Also F#,G,Ab (G# as to not mix #s and bs) is three notes in a row... playing this scale on your own, you could probably come up with something that sounds OK but jamming this with others would be a disaster... clash city!
16. Get a red one... they sound better than the other colours.
17. Do love a bit of Mr Bungle.
18. Happy with mine... I never stop learning though.
19.
I knew there must be a reason folks like 'em...!
I dunno... turn round at the wrong time and you could get a projectile jack plug in the nuts...
20. Surely they end up pinging out of your amp and slapping you in the arse all the time?
21.
Always played 100% originals from the outset with the bands I've been in.
Me too, never had the slightest interest in playing covers....
22.
... I found it heavy and difficult to move around...
It's not the easiest to maneuver around to be honest... the wheels and handles are in a bit of an odd position relative to each other. I've got a sack barrow and some luggage straps for mine, easy as anything to get about with it now.
23. A ric???? you need to have serious words with yourself... Thoughts like that are not big or clever...
