1.
Ha ha, me too. Though I might chuck in a third now and then just to impress
Absolutely no thirds allowed...
 2.
as long as they would accept my very occasional flirtation with the tricky root/octave manoeuvre !!
They defininately wouldn't... no octaves, no grace notes, no passing notes, just roots...
 3.
I'd suggest a philosophical outlook about such thing. it's obviously a pisser when people misrepresent things but in the final analysis if the band members don't gel - for whatever reason - then the band is almost certainly doomed.
Yeah exactally, I've no worries about it It was only in the very early stages anyway. I do think they would be more successful putting an advert out for the sort of player they actually want though. It's as much a waste of their time as any prospective bass players... Something along the lines of 'bassist wanted - must only play root notes'
 4.
tierce de picardie is simply resolving a piece in a minor key on a major chord. i.e if it's in Cminor you resolve it on C maj. It doesn't just have to be the end of the piece it can be any cadence within the piece.

just think of it as a happy third - in a nutshell a piece in a minor key resolving on the final cadence to the major https://en.wikipedia...i/Picardy_third edit - apologies lord sausage you beat me by a few seconds there
Thanks gents... I am suitably enlightened....
 5.
YUM! Is that the bass that was in The Gallery?
Yeah thats the one, I dropped in there on my way home yesterday.... something I must stop doing....
 6. I know a fair bit of theory, I use it in everything I play but, I have absolutely no idea what a tierce picarde is...
 7. Needed a Fretless for a new project, picked this up on the way home yesterday. Sounds great with the Piezo pickup, really organic. Has by far the loudest output of any bass I've ever had... seriously hot... mahogany core with a flame maple top. Came strung with Nylons though and they've got to go... they sound OK but it feels like your playing with rubber bands... Last NBD for a while... need to stop getting distracted by shiny new (old) basses... now who's got one of those stingrays with the flame maple neck for sale? Rob
 8.
Will it cause baldness?
Several of mine seem to have had that effect....
 9.
But "Leo got it right", he doesn't want you to take the scratch plate off. (Or the bridge and pickup covers, and he wants you to play with your thumb using the tug bar.)
He also wants you to use those enormous chrome covers that make playing the instrument utterly impossible...
 10.
They just press against the strings the same as putting a foam block down there like the Motown players did, turn the screws to engage. Only on pre eb basses, new classicrays and Ernie ball basses up to around 1990 ish although the bridge with the holes for then carried on for a while after and you can fit a mute kit for £25.
Oh I see, thanks for that... So long as they are easy to disengage. Might be fun to have the option but I'm not sure I could go for a permenantly muted bass. Those classics are looking very appealing...
 11. I parted company with a band last week. Apparently 'looking for someone to bring their own creativity to the project' actually means 'looking for someone to play exactly what we tell them'... who knew... On to the next one
 12. My buying decisions are utterly irrational... It pretty much goes : Oooo look a shiny new bass.... Better buy that... Hang on I've got several of these already, probably should have spent that money on something else...
 13. Whats the deal with the bridge mutes? are they easy to attach / disengage etc? Are they on all models? Rob
 14. Ouch.. I wouldn't, but as with everything, it's worth that if someone pays it...
 15.
Superb! Thank you, Rob! Look forward to seeing you again mate. Might have time for a chat and a beer at this one
There is always time for beer......
 16. Fantastic, we'll be there. It's less then ten minutes on the overground from us. See you there. Rob
 17. Are you guys actually doing a set at this? Rob
 18.
What is that bass??!! - in a strange way I kinda really like it! Does it come in a four string!
It's on the ritter website here http://www.ritter-ba..._info.php?i=459 check out the other pics... Its called 'The Birthday Party Bass'.. apparently .. I think it's brilliant....
 19. Possibly this... It's so ridiculous it's actually great....
 20. Lift jazz is actually a unique genre all of it's own...
 21.
If lounge jazz is the music you play in your own lounge then this is what lounge jazz sounds like..............to me.
No soundcard in the works computer sadly... Our office isn't overly jazzy at the best of times - Well apart from the music they play in the lift...
 22. I always liked a bit of lounge jazz... not too keen on the stuff that sounds like someone released an angry bear into the orchestra pit though...
 23. Just received a speaker cable from Dave. Superb quality,... nothing else to say really. Rob
 24.
Just to endorse what Gareth has said here , I really wouldn't get too hung up about the sonic difference between a two and three band Stingray , or indeed over the differences between a pre and post Ernie Ball model . They all sound far more similar than they do different , if you see what I mean . That Stingray tone is so distinctive that , even if there are slight timberal differences between different models , what comes out of your speakers will still sound like a Stingray , no matter which you end up choosing. If you enjoy the sound of a Stingray then I too would recommend checking out the Bongo . It's a hotrod of a bass guitar with all the punch of a Stingray but a bit more defined and articulate midrange that seems to get you heard a bit better than the 'Ray. The sound is 100% Music Man but with a definite 21st Century spin on it that can be addictive. I like the HH model best, but all configurations are terriffic. Highly recommended.
That's reassuring, I'm not going to end up choosing a model that is lacking in the tone I want it for! I'll keep an eye out for any local ones that look good. Never heard a bongo but the general consensus seems to be pretty much as you've said here... very positive.
