Zon basses build waiting times.....
CamdenRob replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in General Discussion
I think it's a bit cheeky on their part to be honest... the build time might contribute to why you would choose one builder over another. ... Great basses though. -
Unique tone from proprietary multicoil pickups, Aesthetics are an acquired taste, Damn expensive, Woods, electronics and hardware beautifully and meticulously crafted with astonishing attention to detail, Some older ones weigh as much as an adult hippo... ... I've not played anything better
-
I own and have previously owned other basses which I enjoy playing but i always use the Wal in a band situation... Anything else doesn't really sound like me.
-
I use mine live all the time for the utterly preposterous reason of adjusting the volume...

I've let my subscription slide... I do pick it up for a holiday read or when I've a long train journey though To be honest I don't think it's really aimed at BCers, who in general are highly knowledgeable about the gear available on the market and obdurately opinionated on most thing bass... I always though it was more for the mass market (as much of a mass market as bass playing is anyway) who couldn't give a toss about their gear as long as it sounded like a bass and looked the way they want

I don't actually need a P bass at this point, I'm only playing in one originals band and I always pick up the Wal by default, but i like having one around. Whenever I don't have a P bass in the stable it feels like something is missing I do often pick it up for a noodle though and would take it to a studio session just to give me another option. I love the sound with flats played with a pick

Never looked back since i first tried one... Different basses work for different players and no one builder is going to create something which is all things to all people but for me, they are the ultimate... regardless of your take on the aesthetics, the magic is in those pickups A year down and a year to go on the build of a fretless sister bass to my ziricote sixer. My basses are the MK3 shape and it is smaller, lighter and more ergonomically shaped to my eyes, but for a four string I prefer the look of the MK1...

I'm more of an "all the gear - no idea" type guy...

South East Bass Bash No.10, Surrey, Saturday 24th September 2016
CamdenRob replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Looks like a fantastic meet-up... gutted I missed it. -
Awesome amps...I have yet to hear better. I see another in my future...

A bass being owned by a name player would actually put me off buying it... I don't even like the idea of owning a signature bass. I don't want my playing associated with imitating or trying to sound / look like anyone else. Only exception obviously would be if I saw a bass for sale from a big name player at a bargain price... Then I'd buy it and sell it on.

I imported a couple of bits from outside the EU earlier in the year. An Epifani amp from the US and also a Moollon bass from South Korea. The bass came through parcelforce and sat in customs for a couple of weeks until I paid VAT and import duty. They sent me a letter and I had to pay before they would release it. The amp came straight through from FedEX (a couple of days from NY to my door) and I got a bill for the VAT etc a couple of weeks later. Whatever happens you will have to pay VAT and import duty when it arrives in the UK.

No-one will ever make it big playing one of those...
The wait is over, big 50 yesterday, picked up my Alpher today, its stunning and Chris and the guys are lovely genuine people. I cant recommend them highly enough. Here it is in all its glory. As mentioned above, I use the high C in chords mostly... I don't find the extra width in the neck a hindrance so I like to have the option of a high c for th odd occasion I use it On an related note, thinking of trying TI flats on my sixer...
Send it back to Paul Herman? I took mine to Charlie Chandler and he immediately passed it to Paul.
Yes i think that's probably the best option... It's just such a faff organizing couriers etc, then being at home to receive it back. I was hoping I could just take it to someone in person and have them take a look at it...
The easier answer is. . . . stop digging in!
I fear my agricultural technique is long established and beyond redemption...

Morning Gentleman of the Bass... My Wal is in need of a decent setup (I shouldn't have to be using massive strings to avoid clanking the fretboard when I dig in) Any suggestions? I've used Martin at the Gallery before and been happy with his work, just seeking out any other options

Not now...
I'm just finalising a spec for a fretless 6 from ACG to go with my recent 6, it'll be a nice light top compared to the Koa on the other.
Let me know what you go for, my specification is just for something light too and I'm always looking for ideas...
. I wonder if mine will be done before yours...
Almost certainly so... Are you going for the multicoils on the new one? we'll have to arrange a get together when everything has arrived, be great to compare the Wal and ACG fretted and fretless sixers.
-
Wow! I forget, what's the specs on this one? Eude
Still a bit flexible at the moment... They take so long to build you go through several changes of mind... It's definitely going to be ebony edge lines only board and a light coloured facing. I was originally thinking of a stain in either violet (like my old MK1) sonic blue or white, but I may just go for a lighter natural wood. All depends what Paul has in at the time I need to choose. Doesn't seem so far away now it's under 12 months to go...

Second payment down on my incoming fretless sixer yesterday... only a year to go now...

How to get a sound like a Rick, without a Rick?
CamdenRob replied to alyctes's topic in Bass Guitars
A similar sound can be attained by purchasing a pair of drumsticks and hitting them together... -
I bought a set of the ultraligh schaler ones for an mk1 a while back... I'll dig out the order.
