1. Looks are definitely a factor... as much as sound, balance, playability etc. it is certainly possible to find a bass with all of these though fortunately we are not limited to a choice between them.
2. I don't have a beater bass... I just take my Wal to all gigs / rehearsals...
3. I have to say that there has been no discernible difference in the tone of the various Wals I've had... not to my ears anyway. It's my belief that its the pickups that are responsible for that unmistakable tone. There is more to a build than tone obviously and Wals have the balance, looks and playability of a top quality instrument, but it's really the sound that Wal players are buying into. I am a huge Wal fan and for me they are the best bases I have ever played and I have little intention of playing anything else in projects where I have free reign over my tone.... but in truth I think the finishes are mostly a cosmetic choice.
4. I find an oldtime strongman single strap leotard is a suitable outfit for most occasions...
5. I'm not really one to tinker... don't change my gear much...
6. Don't think I'm going to get anything down this month chaps... Snowed under with work and as it's wedding season I've no free weekends for about a month. I shall be listening and voting though
7. When I first got back into this bass playing lark a couple of years back. I bought a bass and played it acoustically for a couple of weeks then decided I'd get an amp... This happened to coincide with the Fender takeover of Genz and some crazy pricing lead to me buying a ShuttleMax12.2 and a pair of neo 2x12s for the living room practice amp
8.
Enfield Lionheart, there I said it.
If it helps I played one at the herts bash and it was awesome...
9. Feels weird playing sitting down... I always practice / rehearse and gig standing up.
10. Love the trans White... that's the plan for my incoming Wal.
11. Comes down to personal choice as with everything... My glockenklang sounded better than anything else I've had and if my rig requirements were based soley on tone id get a full weight BAC head and 6x10... But j have other considerations so have compromised with my current set up.
12.
I spent much of the 90s playing through a Laney PB150-410 (like this, but a combo rather than separates). Obvs I wanted a Trace, but this was more than capable and I was well pleased with it.
The 90s did seem to be a time of "the more bands your graphic EQ has the better"... Trend seems to have moved much more to simple parametric (if that even) EQ these days.
13.
Haha I had one a few years ago when I first started playing was an upgrade to my tiny practice amp... ...Apparently its still going strong.
Maybe it's the same one I had still doing the rounds
14. Either would be vastly superior to the carlsbro 115 monstrosity i gigged in the 90s....
15.
I'm looking forward to the final outcome to decide if i'm buying one or not!
Yeah me too...
16.
I've seen the piccolo amp carrying case. It must be perfect, because the size is exactly the same in both heads. But I don't find where I can buy it.
You can order one direct from Epifani Just drop them an email and they will send out an electronic invoice. I bought a piccolo and the carry case a couple of months back.
17. I have a full flightcase for my Wal that is so heavy it is of little practical use...
18. I'm currently using this mini rig. Weighs in at 16kg in total and easily loud enough for my needs with no perceivable lack of "heft".
19. Stunning... Looks almost exactly like my moollon.
20. What's the string spacing on it? Don't worry just looked it up... 17 is a little tight for me fortunately! The natural one looks good too, but I prefer your one.
21.
I always thought it looked a bit odd as a 4 string. Like the body was too big and it was meant to be a 5/6. Same goes for the Yamaha TRB
Yeah I always think that too... The proportions look a bit wrong. That's a seriously good looking bass you've got there though
22. So does it work or not? I was going to buy one...
23.
This one ???
That absolutely must be good for metal surely?
24. I would say just do what you like although I personally think drum tracks are not really in the spirit of the noodle bar... Naked bass as mentioned above is the ethos... ...also the last time we took the donkey to the hemp field he ate too much of it, got sick and started to believe he was shergar, so I'm not doing that again.
25. It'll be awesome... It's a sadowsky... The aesthetics don't do it for me though... I always think natural wood finish fender shapes look a bit odd.
