1.
...I wonder at the wisdom of posting in a thread titled 'Jazz or P' - surely it must be quite obvious that it's going to be about Fender basses..?
I have had a similar internal debate this morning about posting in the Morrissey thread... Thus far it appears to be some enthusiasts suggesting tracks for a new listener of the band... all very good natured I suspect that despite the thread being the best opportunity for me to use the phrase "monumental bellend" since the recent Kanye West thread, doing so is not really much of a contribution and probably not in the community spirit...
2. A couple of noodles to catch up on this evening then
3.
Is the sixer set on the right suitable for a 34" scale bass? I see the one on the left is super long scale.
You know I'd not noticed noticed that... I wondered why I had to cut so much off the last set of those I put on. The set on the right (32-130) Is what I've been using on my Wal for the last year (34"), I think the super longs are left over from when I had a 35" Spector a while back.
4. Right come on, this thread has been up for twenty minutes and no-one has trotted out "it's all in the fingers" yet...
5. Is it time for this again already....
6. oh wow... no definitely not cool... It's laughably uncool if you are actually in Kiss, let alone if you're not
7. Recently built a set of Prosteels from singles and can't see me going back now, so I've a few unopened sets kicking around I've no use for. All prices include UK postage and I'll send them out Saturday (25th June) 4 String sets - £14 each 6 String sets - £20 each
8. Great stuff... Thanks for the link
9.
I wanted to just check that my original opinion of Rics still held true when I decided to try the one above, that they were nasty, unplayable things. I was sold within minutes. There are better built, better looking and, dependent on your opinion, better sounding basses out there, but once I put in on a strap and plugged it in, there was no going back for me.
When Mrs C dragged me along to latitude festival last year I saw a number of live bands for the first time in a while. Far and away the best bass sound was the guy from the vaccines... Utterly thunderous low end yet clear and barky. Stuck my head in the tent to see what the guy was playing and much to my surprise it was a ric... Sounded huge.
10.
I think they are, by a country mile, the ugliest.musical instrument ever assembled.
Yeah I'm on the fence too...
11. I'm a bass player through and through... Had a go at guitar last year because I couldn't find a band doing what I wanted to do on bass, wrote a bunch of tracks and got a band going but as soon as a bass project came up I lost interest.
12. I saw him a couple of years back at the O2 and he didn't look a well man... Think he's been through throat cancer or something similar. Was a poor shadow of his earlier live performances, very sad.
13. Ah it's all good fun so long as it's not a problem GAS can be a journey of discovery Spending your money on stuff you want is fine, regardless of whether you actually need it or not - Spending money you should have used for the actual gas bill is not so great, but that's a different issue altogether...
14. A quick thumbs up for stringsdirect as well... Comprehensive range, decent prices and next day delivery.
15. Very pleased with the .145 B, Much better tension and the intonation is spot on. I've ordered up a heavy set of prosteels to go with it as I've a bit of a mis-match currently.
16.
...And they never seen the light of day.
Well they have now thanks to the noodle bar
17. The whole courier / delivery industry is beyond a joke... ludicrously inefficient, staff don't give a s**t because of low wages and unrealistic targets. Late pickups, no shows, damage etc... it's all to be expected. The thing that gets me the most though is the insurance... I have have to pay extra ( a LOT extra) so that you don't destroy / lose my stuff... In what world is that an optional extra and not standard practice? ... ridiculous.
18.
https://soundcloud.c...910/punk-noodle
Good stuff TC Is this something that came out of your jam with the guitarist earlier on in the week?
19. Got a pair of B strings (135 and 145 tapered) coming to try out... I figured the taper might help with the intonation as it will sit on the bridge saddle better.
20.
I had the privilege to try some of Jez' basses on Sunday. They are truly remarkable. Jez is a modest gent with a great talent. I really enjoyed his 5-stringer. It hangs well, the reach to the 1st fret isn't too much of a stretch and the sound is great. Many thanks Jez. It was a real pleasure to meet you. Thank you.
Yes I also had a go on these basses at the Hertz bash and agree with Rich, it was a real pleasure to try them out. If you were handed one of these and not told what it was, you'd have no idea it wasn't an instrument from a known bass maker. It's astonishing really... The basses I tried not only looked great but they sounded great too.
21. wow looks great gotta love a good P bass
22.
We do Prosteels as heavy as .145. They are available as singles. Drop me a PM and we can try to figure out if you have an issue with your current low B.
Fantastic... will do.
Now there's service for you....the personal touch..
yes can't say fairer than that!
23.
22 months to build a bass guitar!!! Are they growing the trees to build the things with? How come Status and Overwater can build and deliver them in 10 to 12 weeks nevermind months? Maybe these guys need a Dawn Green to kick them up the back side.
... a year of that is the waiting list unfortunately. Wal only turn out a couple of finished instruments a month. One builder and one helper when I paid a visit last year, it's a very small operation. I expect I will see a fair few come into the waiting room months after me, only for the nurse to call them in before me
24. Right who else is in here..? I've been sat here for 7 months and still have a year and a half to go. ...pass me that dog-eared, out of date copy of Town and Country magazine.... I'll have a go at the crossword.
25.
I think I am right in saying that if you have buzzes at the bottom of the neck it's usually neck relief and if it's at the top it's action that needs adjusting. Good luck!
All sorted now after a quarter turn on the truss rod and a tweak on the saddle height... still think I might have a duff B string though as in order to get the intonation right I had to set the saddle almost right back as far as it will go
