1.
You'll certainly go up in tension so the strings will feel tighter at the same pitch and scale length. Here's the D'Addario tension charts: http://www.daddario....chart_13934.pdf - This is a great document and is very useful for choosing the right gauge when drop tuning as well to keep the same tension. There's also this superb interactive 'app' too from D'Addario which I think will be useful: http://stringtensionpro.com If it's just 'clack' you are trying to sort out then yes you may find that adjusting the instrument set up may help too. A little more neck relief and/or raising the action will dramatically change the feel of the instrument. Indeed I have been less inclined to play a particular bass because of the set up. When I finally pulled my finger out and did a set up properly it went from being a sentimental ole dawg to being my 'go to' lesson bass!
Thanks for that I'll have a read up and look at the options. Think I'll have a play around with the action this afternoon and see what I can come up with.
 2.
Have you thought about just going up a gauge?
Yeah I did consider that, steel prosteels only go up to a 130 on the B I think, do you think going up to a 135 would make an appreciable difference? I think maybe I just need to raise my action a little bit. Playing on the B string a lot in my new band further up the neck and getting a tad to much string clank for my tastes when I dig in.
 3. Anyone got any suggestions for some higher tension rounds? Have been using prosteels for a couple of years now but would like to try some higher tension steels. Must be available in a six string set.
 4.
https://soundcloud.c...-fied/andromeda
That's a lovely little ditty to kick us off this month. Nice barky tone there as well... I've not really used harmonics in a piece before... Everyone else seems to make it sound so natural, always sounds a bit like I've put them in for the sake of it when I try.
 5.
are they the same scales that you had in your 20s ? Perhaps their ability to measure weight has declined and you've actually gained no weight at all.
Yes I'm assuming that's the case...
 6.
I've got a VM 70s which is spot on 9lbs on my dodgy bathroom scales.
I think my bathroom scales are dodgy too... they keep telling me I'm far heavier than I was in my 20s...
 7.
Come on now, lads, play fair. I know you're both proud, but this is really a bit much, don't you think..?
... I've only paid for it to be there for the month to be fair... I thought any longer would be a little over the top...
 8.
Joint winner!! Been offline for a few days just catching up now! i'll display my poster proudly.
Mine is on the fridge... Mrs C looked at it yesterday and said "that's nice dear" and got on with chopping some sort of green vegetable. She pretends to only have a passing interest in the noodle bar, but I know deep down she was mightily impressed and will probably tell all her friends about it down the pub tomorrow...They will also be suitably amazed and no doubt persuade their boyfriends to enter this month so they too can have a short at immortality in the noodle bar hall of fame...
 9.
*You can explain most things by saying "That's Jazz" putting on an accent if needed.
I played in a band with some mates when I was about 13 and we had a guitarist who when tuning up would get bored half way though and just say "ah well it's close enough for jazz" ...
 10.
I heard love and passion.
I heard a jumped up prick but each to their own...
 11.
I'll pluck up courage and bravado to do a stint of sixer fretless. Noodling..
I think I may unleash some fretless this month too.
 12.
I'm definitely going to be in this month.
Good stuff As ever I remain confident that this month will be the month the noodle bar takes off! I shall order some extra sake...
 13. So... here we are again chaps.
 14.
And the winners are... CamdenRob and Asambique..! 15. What a prat... We still get the odd red faced table thumping shouter in the construction industry. They are rare but I do look forward to encountering them in meetings... it's the highlight of my day.
 16. All of my gear is immaculate, despite heavy gigging. I just look after it, it's not difficult.
 17. Yes UPS offer full insurance... It's damn expensive though, cost me nearly £400 to ship a Wal to Denmark just before Christmas... ... Ridiculous... I have to pay them extra so they don't lose / break my stuff.
 18.
Ta very much! But I bet by the 3rd hour of widdleywiddleywoo you'd be trying to saw your own ears off using one of my many discarded and snapped G strings as a cheese-wire...
ha... yes we get a bit of leeway in a 60 second noodle. I still love your playing though.
 19. OK guys had a good listen through these on the bus on the way in this morning and have voted My favorite this month was Asambique I'm not usually a fan of sub bass, but to be honest that's usually because I hear people rehearsing at just about every London studio with that damn button pressed in on the ubiquitous Ashdown monstrosity studios seem so keen to provide us with... this however is not a rehearsal and not a band situation... it is the noodle bar and this sounds great I really like your timing and groove at the slower speed, it's really consistent (having just listened back to my noodle this month I think I need to spend some time with the metronome ). It's a nice piece too, really musical I thought My other votes were FuNkShUi... that's a great riff sandwiching the slap section and I really like your tone as always. Have you ever played an Enfield bass? I tried one at the hearts bash on Saturday and it had a great modern HiFi sound with both pickups set to the humbucker mode... reminded me a bit of your tone. My remaining vote was for Leonard Smalls, whom I could listen to all day. I did say this last month but it's worth mentioning again, there is something wonderfully natural about your playing. it really is a case of you expressing your music through the instrument, it sounds great Another great bunch where to be honest It was difficult to whittle it down to just the three... but those are the rules and these were my favorites Long live the noodle bar!
 20.
They have a recently refurbished Music studio which will almost certainly benefit from the funds. raised.
That's fantastic... Is it a rehearsal studio where the kids can go and jam with backline etc?
 21. On another note; the D'Addario goodie bag I got in the raffle was a veritable treasure trove... the new NYXL strings (in some seriously cool packaging Apple would be proud of), clip on tuner, new earplugs, microfiber cleaning cloth, a cool t-shirt and a few other bits and bobs...
 22.
Lawks! Not even all the entrants have voted yet...
I'm guilty I'm afraid... Will have a listen through tonight
 23.
and the Zoom B3 especially surprising me as the simulated sounds of both the Sansamp and the MXR were so near to the originals. I`m sure with a bit of tweaking they could be made identical.
It was very similar wasn't it... I also though the Behringer did a fair job of emulating the Sansamp. It was very interesting to hear the direct comparison with the same bass / amp / player. Admittedly Zoom / Behringer haven't had to plow money into R&D in order to develop the products and have essentially just copied the tone, but still... for a 10th of the price they both made a very good effort at replicating the originals I though.
