Plectrum playing - why the snobbery?
CamdenRob replied to highwayman's topic in Theory and Technique
I'm a recent convert to pick playing. Although I play finger style in all my bands I really like the extra attack and think I'll be doing a few tracks with a pick at an upcoming recording session. In agreement with everyone above really though... Just do whatever you feel sounds best Anyone who tells you not to use a pick / only play a Fender / only play in your basement unless your getting paid, is best considered a bit of a wally and ignored. -
Just got home, was great to meet everyone, had a really good day trying out plenty of stuff I've not seen before... Was particularly fond of the Enfield basses and a lovely Stanley Clarke alembic. Thanks to grangur for letting me share his amp set up and for the lift back to the station See you all next year.

It's today

Looks great, the case is really classy as well... Beats the rubbish nylon bags all my amps have come with. Looking forward to hearing it at the bash How heavy is it? I've been trying to justify a Glock BAC to myself all week for gigs where I get a lift and that's 17kg...
Yes, I have a 'thing' about excess speaker cable. I don't know why. Thanks to obbm for his valuable assistance.
Yes me too... my new setup requires some obbm shaped assistance.
Oof, awesome price! Wonder how this would compare to my Vanderkley...
Thanks Kev Trying to price competitively as it's pickup only, which I know is annoying. Just to add in response to a couple of PMs. I am not looking for any trades on this thank you. -

BF Super Compact has arrived!..*REVIEW* of sorts
CamdenRob replied to modelreject's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yes there appears to be a distinct lack of interest among my work colleagues with regards to bass gear too... Mrs C also doesn't seem overly bothered... The cat however is always interested in anything new that comes into the house... although admittedly more from a sniffing and working out if it'd be good for claw sharpening / sleeping on perspective, than a wider interest in the subtle aspects of bass tone. -
Here's what I'm talking about! TWO One10s?? That's just overkill!!
I'm just future proofing my setup for the day when I have to play a stadium with no PA support...
Ooh, that's wee.
Yes it's not very rockstar...
-
I won't put up with any of that crap... If you can't get yourself and your equipment in a passable state to every gig / rehearsal on time then I'm gone. No excuse for it but it's surprisingly prevalent.
How about a pic with one of your Wals, just for porn's sake; maybe proportion too, but mainly porn?
Poor lighting I'm afraid, but this gives a better indication of size. I haven't gigged it yet, but it was more than enough at rehearsal. Very pleased so far
Here's my current rig, DIY head good for ~650 watts at 4 ohms, which the AK cab is:
What a lovely looking amp...
7 votes..... so i'm guessing someone has only voted for one?
That would be my new strategy of only voting for myself... ... I jest of course, I shall have a good listen through at the weekend and vote

I've been through the "smallest possible gigable setup" thing over the last year or so... I found 1x 112 to not quite be enough for me. I went from 2x 112, to a 210 to my current set up of 2x 110s, which is super portable and easily loud enough for my needs. The whole rig weighs 16kg.
Speaking of which for next month if I plugged two basses into one amp and played them at the same time is that ok or a sneaky way to get around the one track rule?
I'm not sure about the rules but it would be impressive if you managed to get a passable tune out of two basses at the same time... video evidence would be necessary... It is also an excellent justification to buy another bass...
-
Should bands (in name) carry on after large lineup changes?
CamdenRob replied to Twincam's topic in General Discussion
Given that playing live (especially with a name behind you) is pretty much the only avenue left to make money from original music, I expect remaining members of pretty much any band would keep going as long as possible whatever the lineup. But yes it's a fair point... If a band contains no original members, it's pretty much a tribute of the original. -
I voted - pretty easy really as some of you fellas have got absolutely horrible tone...
brilliant... got to love an honest opinion.
I have just shown my friend all the noodles, and asked his opinion on the 3 he'd vote for.

Make him join the forum with his own profile and vote.
under threat of violence if necessary...

... I'd not personally vote for myself, but I guess the option is there. ... besides subsonic usually wins anyway...
