1. Andrés bought my Glockenklang Blue Soul. Came to collect it , paid and took it away on the same day as mentioning he was interested Great guy to deal with and a credit to BC - Deal with confidence.
2. Maybe I had a duff set...
3.
Other than the Herts Bash (we're already doing a DI Shoot out) when's the next Bash?. Could be a good choice for a gear shoot-out - Tubes-v-SS/D Class.
That is an excellent idea... all amps through the same cab behind a curtain so it's a blind test.
4. It definitely passes me by...
5. I recently tried a set of the steels on my Wal sixer... they lasted about an hour before I swapped them out for my usual prosteels. Not for me. Despite the suggestion of "super bright" they were actually pretty dull.
6. Yeah it's all about being in a band and playing live for me...
7. Glockenklang Blue Soul The short description would be that this is the best amp I have had bar none... A longer description would be that Glockenklang have a reputation for clear and transparent bass amps with a great core tone, and I've very much found that to be the case, so much so that I rarely engage the EQ section at all. It really is a case of "The sound of your bass, only louder". Glockenklang gear is definitely aimed more towards the HiFi end of the bass tone spectrum with the gain control serving to optimize the input level rather than provide overdrive. I would suggest for drive and valvy type tones this is probably not the best choice, but for deep, punchy, powerful, clean, sparkling bass tone this amp is for me the outright winner. Specs from Glockenklang: Features: High performance class D power amp section (650 watts / 4 0hms, 350 watts / 8 ohms) Excellent equalization section, switchable LED peak indicator for pre amp and power amp LED indicators for all switch functions Dual high impedance input A/B box with separate pre gain trim for input B Effect Return also usable as mp3 player and additional mixing input Balanced DI out Tuner out Phones out Compact and robust design Lighweight 5 kg (11 lbs) Inputs: Input A for instruments with normal level Input B with additional pre gain trim control for instruments with higher level and for piezo pickups Tone controls: Switchable 5 band EQ Bass +/- 15 dB @ 60Hz Low +/- 12 dB @ 130Hz Mid +/- 8 dB @ 550Hz High +/- 12 dB @ 4.2KHz Treble +/- 15 dB @ 12KHz Effect loops 1parallel effects loop, post eq, intensity controlled by effects section on the front panel, footswitchable, also usable as second, mixable input Dimensions: 320 x 280 x 88 mm, 12.6" x 11" x 3.5" (2 rackspaces) Weight: 5 kg, (11 lbs) The only reason I am moving this on is that I am on a quest for the smallest and lightest rig possible that can still deliver the tone and volume I need. Whilst I prefer the tone of the Glock, my new Epifani is smaller, lighter and fits on top of my Barefaced One10s without any overhang (another consideration). I have priced this to reflect the "collection only" condition as I do not have suitable packaging to ship it. The amp comes with the bag (sadly missing the shoulder strap), a fancy Glockenklang power cable and some rack ears. All great condition. £550 collected from Camden NW1 evenings/weekends
8. Blimey you could get just about anything in the BC Marketplace for that, certainly a version of pretty much anything. USA Js & Ps, Stingrays, Warwicks, Spectors. ...the world is your potato... or however the phrase goes.
9. What a great review... Real world experience counts for so much when evaluating gear. After considering a pair of One10s for a while it was your review that pushed me over the edge and I got a pair ordered up... I now have them and they are fantastic Great work and another great contribution to BC.
10.
Which amp are you using?
Been using a Glockenklang blue soul for the last year, but just got a Epifani piccolo which also doesn't appear to be lacking any "heft". As far as I know both these amps have proprietary power modules.
11.
Nice. Again, love the tone. But i love the walking bassline resolves back to your main kind of phrase. Good stuff. Very cool
Thanks, kind words Almost missed the deadline this month!
12. Here is my contribution this month... bit of a walking ditty. https://soundcloud.com/robhartley-1/noodle-04 Moollon P - TI Flats - Boss BR80
13. Lovely looking bass there by the way...
14.
and there getting cheaper as Marcus has gone to Dunlop.
I tried a set of super brights the other day, they lasted about an hour before I replaced them with pro steels... Horrible strings.
15. I love a good jazz bass but the control set up is flawed for me... A balance / volume / tone setup would be far better IMO.
16. I use a class d amp run flat and no pedals... I've no idea what heft is but this set up sounds deeper, punchier and more powerful than any I've had in the past... It is of course possible that my ears are not capable of detecting heft or any other perceived tonal advantage of a rig weighing the same as a family of hippos, but if it's a failing on my part I'm glad I have it. I couldn't be happier with my gear at the moment.
17. Thanks chaps very pleased at moderate volume... The real test will be at next weeks rehearsal.
18. Following a second successful FedEx delivery in as many days (astonishing stuff I know), both parts of my new ultra portable rig have arrived. I've been using a Glockenklang Blue Soul & Bergantino CN210 as my gigging / rehearsing rig for the last year or so, carting it around the London transport system on a fold up trolley. I love the tone of this set up, HiFi, loud and punchy, with a wonderful top end sparkle I haven't heard outside of Glockenklang setups. Until the release of the One10 I'd not really considered that I could use anything smaller than the CN210 and still have sufficient welly for a live situation. My first port of call would have been Berg if they made a 110, but they do not... So I ordered up a pair of One10s as I'd also like the option of using just one, for acoustic type sessions. With this in mind I also wanted a smaller lighter head, which would fit on top of the One10s. Again if Glockenklang made a micro amp I would have gone with that, but they do not... After looking around, the Epifani Piccolo took my fancy, with similar power and basic sound profile as the Glockenklang, clean, clean, and even cleaner, with tight, deep, lows. Anyway enough waffle, here is the new setup; I will hold off on a full review until I have used it in a band situation as this is the real test for it, but initially I am very pleased. I was wary of Barefaced gear having tried a Generation 1 Compact/Midget set up a couple of years back and I just couldn't dial out an awful middy honk whatever I tried... The One10s have a far more flattering tone, it might be coloured, scooped or whatever but I don't care because it sounds great As does the Epifani. It is not quite as clear and crisp as the Glockenklang but it is smaller and weighs half as much (2kg) and that is definitely a fair trade off for me in my public transportable rig situation. Also impressed with the new barefaced covers, they fit very well and shall provide the necessary protection when I'm lugging them around the city on the tube... So all in all a bit of a winner a 2kg amp and 2x 7kg cabs.
19.
OK... 99%.
Ha... I suspect this is closer to the truth.
20.
Errm I see that swearing has not been edited hehe!
That's because any courier related swearing is exempt from the filter... the forum software understands our disbelief that an entire industry can be so shockingly incompetent.
21. Perhaps he is too busy contemplating one of the great questions of our time in the straight vs angled jack plug thread...
