1.
Speaking of Camden, it boasts my fave London venue, Green Note. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Americana, folk and blues rather than jazz but highly recommended.
It's one at a time in the green note though, especially in the cellar bar... bit of an issue if the number of people likely to attend is in double figures. Nice local craft beer though
 2. At this point in my life I am fortunate enough to not have to worry about getting paid for music... In fact I spend far far more on gear, rehearsals, getting to gigs etc. than I could ever hope to get back. But I'm cool with that...bass playing for me is my hobby, a distraction from work and the general stresses of life. I'm never happier than playing something I've had a part in creating to an audience. I only play originals... and also only originals where I am in total control of ALL my bass parts... I will never play in a project where what I play is dictated to me. I can't think of anything worse than standing on a stage in front of people playing basslines someone else has written... does nothing for me. As a result of being zero compromise on the control thing I have had to be more flexible on some other aspects of the bands I play with. Type of music, location and time of rehearsals / gigs etc. Since I realized what is really important to me, I've hooked up with some great guys playing types of music I'd never even thought about... I'm having the most fun I have had in bands these last couple of months. Music takes all sorts though and if covers float your boat then so be it... no-one is right, no-one is wrong, we are all different and want different things from music / bands. As long as your getting what you want from it (money or enjoyment, or both) stick with it life is full of s**t and it's important to make time where you can for the things you like doing
 3.
Yes Rob, that is a wait and in all seriousness I think I'd prefer a used one, so would my wallet. At somepoint I see myself having to move on a few basses if I can't hold out. That is a beaut Joe and if it was fretted and more around 3k I'd be going nuts
Keep your eye out for a bargain... Just before Christmas I was beaten to a fretted 80s MK1 on gumtree the seller had up for £1200. I believe another BCer got in before me! Aside from that spectacular bargain, used prices seem to be pushing up from £3k...
 4. It's a long wait if you go for a new one... I'm six months into the build period for a MK3 fretless sixer and I still have 18 months to go When I decided I wanted to my first Wal built I sold everything else to pay for it and waited 18 months for it to be built... I then instantly forgot the wait as soon as I picked it up... It's my go to instrument and everything I want from a bass.
 5. Thanks chaps... I'll give the lemon oil a go then and if that's not good enough I'll source something else
 6. I know this has been covered before, but I couldn't find what I wanted via the search so it's another thread I'm afraid... The ebony fretboard on my Wal is starting to look a bit scruffy after a year of heavy use and I want to clean it up a bit. I'm assuming I'll not get it back to the smooth black sheen it had when I first picked it up but I'd like to tidy it up a bit. I have some of that dunlop lemon oil stuff, is that the way to go?
 7. All the new USA Fenders I have tried have been excellent... IMO they are still the yardstick against which to judge everything else. Solid, reliable, gigging instruments.
 8. Looks fantastic... always liked Sadowsky gear.
 9.
Can'y buy more gear until after my house move this autumn, I'm supposed to be downsizing!
Buying this rig is downsizing...
 10.
Well, i thought i'd pointed out that's why i asked for them... Evidently not. . . or not well enough at least. May have to remove that one shortly if he'd prefer not to have it in here Im too keen, what can i say??
It's OK my next step was to kidnap the BCers who's addresses I know from buying / selling stuff and force them into submitting a noodle...
 11.
Here's an entry from markmcclelland https://www.youtube....h?v=l6yrhkl9-LM I said i'd post them for him in here. Some of you may be aware of the blog he is writing about becoming a pro player? Anyway, there more the merrier right?
Ha! excellent stuff... so we've started stealing noodles from unsuspecting BCers and entering them... ... good work.
 12.
I think people are WAY too OCD about being in tune, anyway.
I have been unfortunate enough to play with several guitarists who seemed to consider tuning to be optional...
 13.
I've been to London a few times, as a short trip visitor. I really really love this town...besides Barcelona and New York..hehe
London, Barcelona and New York are OK but you haven't lived until you've been to Hull..
 14. I'd be snapping this up from the marketplace http://basschat.co.u...00-l155-posted/ It'll do the job just fine without drums and would have a fair chance even with drums.
I've got a One10 (hopefully) incoming fairly shortly.
Hopefully I have a pair arriving this weekend
 15.
Wow, you must have a very liberal and understanding boss. Cool!
It's how we always start the day... numbs us to the bitter reality of it all.
 16.
It's early and I haven't had coffee yet...
Me neither so there is also a chance my post was ridiculous... I'm just firing up the pot in the office... I'll pour an extra one.
 17.
Wouldn't pushing the Tune/Mute button mute the signal to the DI as well as the speaker outs?
It would if you we're running a DI from the amp, but in my experience (on multi band original gigs) the engineer Isn't keen to take a DI from anything other than the box he plonks on top of your amp.
 18.
I am happy playing bass and making music. That is all.
Hooray for a bit of positivity That's the way to look at it I'm guilty of letting all that other crap get in the way of my enjoyment of it...
 19. We touched on this the other day when I mentioned an issue with running a DI straight out of my bass and therefor having to have the volume up on my bass to get a signal to my tuner (inline from the bass to amp). As a result our legions of adoring fans were getting me tuning up coming out FOH between songs... Presumably with the tuner built into the amp you'd have the same issue if you were DI'd before the amp?
 20. Dropped something down last night for this, hopefully get it uploaded at the weekend Haven't had a chance to listen through all these yet.
 21. Yeah i always try and get as less twist as possible... dunno if it makes any difference, but it seems like it must do so I've always restrung that way.
 22. Definitely have a go on a Ric before taking the plunge... they are VERY different in both tone and playability to pretty much everything else.
 23. It's safer to just assume GAS will be an ever present in your life... GAS allows you those brief periods where it feels like you have everything you want, just to give you hope that being totally 100% with your gear is actually possible...
 24. I recently ordered five different cheapie pickguards to try on my MIJ Jazz and not one of them fitted properly... I had to file them all down at various points and they ended up looking s**t... not as s**t at the original tort obiously but not really what I'd hoped for...
