I do realize I'm lucky to be in a band with other like-minded people though..
It's the most important thing for me I've come to realize... I've compromised on type of music and location of rehearsals in favor of working with a nice bunch of guys with a similar outlook to myself
The venue is about 400yds from the town centre which has numerous take aways and restaurants. Good Chinese food available. There is also a Pub with a Thai Restaurant attached.
Thanks for the info... I'm not sure I can convince Mrs C to stay around for five hours of bass stuff without the prospect of a decent lunch...
This amp caught my eye too &, as you say, doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the UK. Did Epifani put you in touch with a dealer in the US? Do you mind me asking how much it will set you back (just for one not four of course ?
They said I could order through The Gallery as they are a UK dealer, or just order through them direct. I went direct in the end, no need for a US dealer. Once I'd sorted out what I wanted (with the bag and UK power lead etc), they just sent an electronic invoice and said it was packed up and ready to go as soon as I paid. I'll PM you about the price as it's complicated with VAT, shipping and import duty etc.

Very much looking forward to the Enfield demo... Always been interested in those but not had a proper chance to get up close and personal. Also, any good local pubs for a Sunday lunch?

Jam nights to find a band in London/Herts/Birmingham
CamdenRob replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
sorta like that, aren't the blues ones sorta based on getting up there an improvising? Thats what I'm looking to do as a side to develop more range in my playing
Blues jams will be great for that... I've not been involved in them, but from the ones I've seen it looks like the bandleader just calls a key sig or a chord progression and a feel then off you all go. -
Following the BC communities overwhelming response to this thread and subsequent recommendation, I have ordered a Piccolo 600 direct from Epifani to give a go. It is smaller and lighter than my Glock and I am hoping the tone isn't too much of a compromise. Epifani have been very helpful arranging a direct order and been very responsive to my many questions over the last few days. Although I'm not sure if I clicked on the right button when paying, so according to conflicting online banking information I've either not paid for it or paid for it four times ... Guess I'll find out when it's a reasonable time in NY. Review to follow, once it's cleared customs etc. so hopefully within a couple of weeks Specs Connectors Input: 1/4 inch TS phone jack Passive: 470k Ohms Active: 200k Ohms Send: 220k Ohms Return: –50k Ohms Tuner Out Footswitch: 1/4 inch TRS Direct Out: Low impedance XLR w/ level control Speakers Combo Speakon Tone Control Bass: Shelving + 22dB @ 40 Hz Mid: Shelving + 17dB @ 550 Hz Treble: Shelving + 22dB @ 3 kHz Mid Cut: -8 dB @ 800 Hz Vintage Tone Proprietary circuit selectable switch engages tube emulator Dimensions 3 inches (h) x 11.25 inches (w) x 10 inches (d) Power Supply Switching Power Supply Amplifier: Propietary Class D Power Output Class D 385 Watts D RMS @ 8 Ohms, < 1% THD, 1kHz 600 Watts RMS @ 4 Ohms, < 1% THD, 1kHz Amplifier Response 20hz – 25kHz S/N RATIO 90 dB Voltage Voltage selector 120/240V – 50/60Hz. Jam nights to find a band in London/Herts/Birmingham
CamdenRob replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
I've always found jam nights good fun but not really the ideal environment for meeting potential band mates... I assume we're talking about a jam night where everyone gets up and plays a few tunes with people they've not met before, as opposed to an open mic where everyone plays a few songs of their own material? My reasoning is that a lot of these nights (especially the blues ones) are based around guitarists and not vocals... for me the vocals are 90% of good a band and the only thing 90% of people watching are interested in. Instrumental widdling may be fun, but outside of a few who are actively involved in it no-one cares... IMO you'd be better off finding a singer / songwriter and hooking up with them I am talking about an originals band of course... If I was doing covers for money i'd follow blue's advice and look for the busiest band with the most gigs and make myself into the player they we're looking for. -
NAD - Peavey MiniMAX™ 500 Watt Bass Amplifier Head *Review*
And here's me thinking I was happy with my BH550
GAS is only ever a click away on BC... -
Still fancy a shell pink jazz with a maple neck, cream pickguard and pickups, with Fender on the headstock... It does look very expensive compared with the other options but they aren't Fenders are they?... and that's kind of the point of getting a Custom Shop IMO. Yes other builders can give you something comparable (better in many cases) for a lower price. In fact you can buy other CNC machined fender style basses for a few hundred quid, that as a gigable instrument would serve you just fine... but I don't think this is really what the Custom Shop is about. I like Fender... I like the history and I acknowledge the huge influence they still have over bass styles after all these years. I see the custom shop as a way to get something a little bit special... your colors, a few options to suit the bass to your style etc but it still says Fender on the headstock.... it's not really about getting a bespoke instrument that plays and sounds the way you've dreamt a bass should be (I have that in Wal), It's about owning your own piece of Fender.... if that means nothing to you then there are a plethora of other options available and many of them will give you a "better" instrument for far less money

Yes I too am edging ever closer to ordering the Mono...

Many builders (Glockenklang included) insist on charging you £50 for a naff quality cobbled together in Bangladesh carry case for that £1K amp you've just bought from them... -

I can't say this has ever been an issue... yeah some gigs are tight with tiny stages, where everyone is cramped, but I've never had the issues you guys are describing with other band members taking up more space than is reasonable? All the bands I've been in, we've just looked at the space available and then setup in a way that works best for everyone... you know... like reasonable adults
What really annoys me is when there is an even number in the backline and drummer insists on setting slap bang in the middle thereby forcing two of the remaining back line to be in each other's way with the remaining one on the other side having enough room to set up their gear and a have BBQ in the space left over. It is all about the drums after all.
Bad drummers - how do you deal with it?
CamdenRob replied to project_c's topic in General Discussion
I seem to have got lucky these last few years as the drummer in my new project is just as good as the drummer in my previous one... I've been fortunate enough to work with strong band leaders who put their everything into the music, and who wouldn't put up with anyone sub-standard. It all comes down to your enjoyment of it (unless it's a gig you need the money from). If it's no fun then pack it in plenty of other bands out there looking for a bass player... especially one that can play in time... -
I've got some plastic ones that were chucked in the case when I got my Peterbuilt Jazz... I have 5 or 6 of them and they are great. I'm guessing around 1mm 1.2mm. I might get him to send me a batch in case I lose all mine I always seem to get picks free whenever I buy anything so I've ended up having the opportunity to try out quite a few different gauges... there is a sweet spot for me, not too flappy, but not just a solid lump of plastic either, needs a little give.

Please note this is a guitar sized gigbag not the bass version. Like a regular M80 only it unzips at the top, which to be honest is a far superior design and comes into it's own when getting your guitar in and out of it in a tight stage situation. These are the ultimate in protection and ride slightly higher on the back than the bass version as obviously guitars are smaller making it an easy and comfortable carry. Great condition, no scuffs or tears. £70 collection only from Camden NW1 evenings/weekends Paypal gift, bank transfer or cash on collection.

Pretty much an echo of several previous comments for me in that I like both I am very fond of the P bass with flats and the tone rolled off thing though, so if I had to choose just one I'd choose the faithful P.

DR FatBeams bought from Amazon. Am i missing something. ?
I was initially disapointed with the Super Brights, as I just didn't think that they were as bright or zingy as the name would suggest.
bugger... I was hoping they would be... well.. super bright -
Anyone own / used one of these? I'm considering a gigbag sized micro amp in my quest for an ever more portable setup, and as Glockenklang don't make one I've been looking into alternatives and these look like my sort of thing. Clean, but with the option of a more classic tone when needed. No-one seems to have any available to buy let alone in stock to try... I've contacted them about the feasibility of ordering direct but I'll get stung for VAT and import duty so that looks like an expensive option. I am aware of the various alternatives, just looking for some feedback on these if anyone has any experience of them?
I think Marcus has switched to Dunlop super bright steels. Worth trying them out as they are cheaper (than the usual DR price that is, not your lucky £21 purchase)! If they are good enough for Marcus...
I've just ordered up a set of these to give them a go... not tried them before.
