In fact I have two custom built full flight cases that came with basses when new that have never been used
Yes I have one of those as well... it is so preposterously heavy, it is of little practical use
Have you ever played a venue with netting across the stage to catch flying debris? I'm still not sure if that scene from The Blues Brothers was in any way representative.
I once played a gig at the Norwich Oval with a Death Metal band I was in when I was 14. They put up a full metal grille type thing covering the front of the stage, like that fencing they put around council basketball courts etc... They also erected some heavy duty crowd control barriers about a foot back from the front of the stage. ... seemed a little over the top for the seven people in attendance, but I guess you can't be too careful...
Well in the 13 years ive been playing, and i do use public transport for every gig, ive not had any damage. Most of the time ive used an old Fender unpadded bag. Im not saying things cant happen, but i dont agree that just because you use public transport something will, and that you need to spend £150 to ensure damage doenst happen. My point was more why pay £150 when cheaper bags will do just as well, and maybe easier to use.
Well yes you can never guarantee your bass won't get damaged, but it's always best to limit the chances of an accident happening as much as possible. The Mono M80 is bulky, heavy and far from perfect but it does offer reassuring protection... yes they are expensive, but so are the basses I want protecting.
but just how much protection does one need if you look after your gear?
Quite a bit when you're humping it around on public transport... Public transport by definition is frequented by the public... and where the public are concerned you are never far from a potential disaster. It's best to protect your gear as best you can.

Survey to see what age range has opted to use lightweight (or NOT) gear.
CamdenRob replied to largo's topic in Amps and Cabs
There is of course the cost consideration of lightweight gear as well... It's pretty damn expensive. You can pick up a gigable older heavyweight rig for peanuts. You might like to have lightweight gear in an ideal world, but if funds are tight lightweight may not be an option. -
I find flats suit certain basses. I've got TIs on a P bass and they just feel so right for that particular bass. Always rounds on the Wal though... much prefer rounds on fretless too.
Mark, here's an old shot of my hiwatt with a Wal hanging in the background gotta update my family pics one day
You look very different to how I imagined...
Not sure what's wrong with the pocket Rob? It's just a big zip-up one on the front like most other gig bags isn't it?
Doesn't seem to have much space in it? ...a lead and a strap and it's full! I did buy the tick thing that attaches to the top which gives a bit more space. I do like it as a bag though... I'm considering the dual M80 as I have need of a double gigbag.

Jazz pickup cover no holes - Where to buy?
Try Allparts UK or WD Music UK - they must be available here.
That's more like it £8.62 for a pair inc shipping. Ordered up. Much obliged -
Other more knowledgeable answers to follow I'm sure, but as I understand it you're better off having matching cabs even if you can make it work with the impedance... half the power would be going to the 210 and half to the 410 which might sound a little unbalanced? But it would be louder as you have more speakers moving more air.
Fantastic... that's exactly what I'm looking for. I was trying to find a UK supplier though, but as long as they will ship it's not really an issue.
Perhaps not... they want $41 for shipping a $1.60 pickup cover. -
personally I wouldn't like to lug around anything heavier that 30 Kg, but bulk comes into it as well, even if a Trace 4 x 10 was under 30Kg it's still 18" deep which makes things very awkward, my Rumble is 16Kg but it's still a bit tricky because of it's depth and the fact it's only got a handle on the top so it tends to swing around a lot
it's a fair point about size being an issue as well as weight. I had a pair of Purple Chilli 112s made a couple of years back. They sounded and looked awesome and were of a comparable weight to the other Neo 112s out there, but they were enormous... as deep as they were wide. -
but I think the M80 would be too wide.
Yeah the M80 I have is a similar thickness to a hardcase... similar weight too... and has a crap pocket arrangement. ... damn good protection though.

Some advice please chaps... I want to get a set of pickup covers to cover the pole pieces (EMG look) on my MIJ jazz as my slap technique is a little aggressive and I keep hitting the string on the pole piece when I catch it with my palm, makes a god awful noise and I'm guessing if I covered the pole piece this wouldn't be a problem? I tried lowering the neck pickup but it sounded crap, so i think covered pickups is the next thing to try. Not being remotely technical, is it easy to replace the existing covers if I did manage to find a set?

What's the top on the MK2 four string Mark? Also, where do you live... and when are you next away from home for a period of time...

Interesting... My rig requirements are that I have to be able to get it to the gig on public transport; so to be honest everything else is of secondary importance. It doesn't matter how great something sounds if I can't get it to the gig... If I had someone to carry it, store it and set it up at all my gigs I would use a full blown Glock BAC and matching 610. As it is, I don't have someone to do that for me, so the setup would be totally impractical... Currently using a Glock class D and a Berg neo 210, which I can strap to a trolley and get about London without too much trouble, very happy with the sound / volume too. I have ordered a pair of Barefaced One10s as that would give me the option of taking just one cab for smaller gigs, so hopefully I will soon be even more portable. I'm loath to change as I love the sound of the Glock, but an MB500 would fit in the pocket of my gigbag making my setup even more practical... so I may go down that route as well. ... It's astonishing and a testament to progress that I can carry a gigable, great sounding rig, with plenty of headroom on the tube without any trouble. -

Nice riffage there though I can imagine that being used in a heavier band? Tending more towards metal even than rock? Good stuff though kicking things off once again...

Well that's the fun over for another year... Love everything about Eurovision, especially people complaining that the reason we don't win is that we don't put good enough songs in... Here's hoping the US get a go next year so at least there is one country in it everyone hates even more than us...
Anybody could contact someone from BF lately? Its been some time that I am trying to reach them via email but got no reply. Are they on holiday?
I got a reply yesterday might have had a early Friday...
Sadly no, work has seen to that. They are being shipped. You can imagine the excitement building...
I can indeed... It's the side product of such a long build time! Be sure to post up a thread about them when they arrive... with lots of pics for us to drool over.
I've got a set of these that I've had for approx. 12 years - granted they've not been used every day in that time, but they've never let me down....
They are just too fiddly to get on and off... I thought that they would be an easier to remove version of the grolsh washers, but they are just as difficult to remove and not as secure a fit so I might as well just keep using the grolsh ones! Very flimsy and plasticy the ones I got as well...
