Refusing to wear black with an orange tie .
Could have been worse... Could have been a piano tie...
However, past experience shows that prizes have very little - if any - influence on the number of entries and votes, unless the prize itself is fairly substantial. Clip-on tuners, strings, picks and the like aren't likely to whet appetites beyond the usual cadre of people who take part in these challenges.
Yes I suspect you may be right... Well no matter, I shall continue to air my noodles until I am the last sad soul in the noodle bar at closing time, sobbing into my bowl... staff clearing up around me... reminiscing about the great looper debate of April 2016.
How about simply a pack of tesco value noodles? =P
Maybe I'll ship a pot noodle to everyone who votes....

Oh I have spurious justifications for all my gear... Fretted Wal 6 - For my originals bands as after much searching it's my preferred tone Incoming Fretless Wal 6 - As above Moollon P with flats - For bands where only a fender shape is acceptable Fretless Jazz - As above Soon to be modded with EMGs MIJ Jazz - For a hypermodern sound for slappy tappy nonsense that I'm not usually allowed to do but is being actively encouraged in my current project... One amp, One cab (although soon to be two smaller cabs for better flexibility) ...and of course there is a load of other stuff I want that I can't even begin to justify. Like nice a vintage Fender, a vintage Shergold, a pro series Wal, a shell pink custom shop jazz, a wacky colored Ritter, a Pedulla MV4.... and if I had someone to carry it for me a Glockenklang BAC and Glockenklang 6x10.
They're pretty difficult to get on if your strap is quite thick. I've had the twisty locking bit come away from the other part too, which is why i stopped using them.
oh bugger...
Can you send me the link please?
I just bought a few sets of these off amazon. https://www.amazon.c...8161_TE_3p_dp_1 Similar principle to the grolsh washers but hopefully easier to get on and off... thought I'd give them a whirl anyway at £3.45 They should arrive tomorrow, I shall report back if they are any good.
I shall now invoke another infallible law of Basschat, having ordered an Alesis core 1 there will now be an avalanche of posts telling me what a load of carp it is!
I have one and it works fine with garageband on the macbook When you boot up garageband it asks you which device you want to use for recording and playback and the core 1 becomes the default device. I'm sure there are a plethora of other options, I'm no expert, but I'm using the core 1 for the exact same purpose you want it for and it works for me
-
Thanks, I should have guessed I'd need more kit!
This is basschat... The answer to any question you can ask is "buy more gear" ...
Think you're asking in the wrong forum as we are the people who give our noodles away for free
Yes indeed... It's more voters that need some sort of bribery than contributors
-
OK so what sort of small prize would encourage people to enter / vote? clip tuner maybe? set of feeler gauges or similar? Candlelit dinner for two with me at a romantic retreat of your choosing?
-
I think you need a proper usb interface... I have a mac book and bought one of these. Alesis core 1. There are probably better options out there but this is tiny and i just plugged it in and it instantly worked with garageband, for both line in and also the headphone out. Cost about £40 I think.
The band wanted my hair longer.
This would have been a non starter for me without resorting to a hair transplant...
I use some little plastic twist locks which are really neat secure and cost about £3
I've just ordered some of those off Amazon... They look much easier to put on and off than the grolsh washers.
Your solution may not be the same as mine depending on how you're going to stack the cabs, whether a stand is used, etc etc.
Yes that all depends on whether I can bring myself to cope with half an inch of amp overhang or not
-
Very good, but bear in mind I switched the alignment of the sockets by 180 degrees so the angled Speakon cable wouldn't stick out horizontally beyond the perimeter of the cab. If that makes sense. You may not be as OCD as I am, of course.
Yes I was just thinking about that... I'd have to plug the bottom one in first too or the top one would be in the way I think I'll wait until I actually have them then see what I need
-
What, the Speakon sockets..? Yes. If I had two One10s I'd need to do it this way as my MB200 has only one Speakon out.
In which case I think I shall commission a pair of those nifty right angled Spekon cables.
Oh yes, do try chords. That is one of the best ways to get the intonation right. They will sound horrible to begin with but stick at it and they can sound amazing.
oh I've tried but I'm terrible at it! I'm fine with two note chords, but with some extended chords like 1-b7-b11 you've got all your fingers in a line on the same fret and it's nigh on impossible to get your fingers and wrist position perfectly parallel... a fretted instrument lets you have your fingers that few mm from parallel and still get the clean chord.... that few mm off on fretless sounds terrible, especially up the dusty end.
Took mine to LA, but used a full flightcase with properly fitting foam. Heavy, but balances OK - handle's in the right place. Worth the aggro for peace of mind.
I have a full flightcase for my Wal which is so ridiculously heavy it is of little practical use...
-
I'm assuming that the ports on the back are parallel, so if i chain two together it will present a 4 ohm load to the amp?
-
My only issue with the grolsh approach is that they are quite hard to get on and off over the strap pin (which is the point I suppose). I take the strap off my bass when I put it in the gigbag, it's quite a cosy fit and I don't want the hard plastic bit on the strap digging into my bass. This makes the washers a bit of a faff to squeeze on and off every time I take my bass out of the case.
Willing to put a friendly wager on that?
I'm trying to make up for my slight disappointment that nobody cares with blind enthusiasm... ... This month is the month!
-
I like both fretted and fretless, both have a place takes a bit of practice to get your intonation right up the dusty end though... and I don't even attempt chords IME lined or unlined makes little difference... you can't see the lines from the playing position anyway, as long as it has side dots in the right place you're fine.

I have never played any of those and haven't even heard of half of them
Couple of week, I hope..
When I paid a visit to HQ around this time last year to pick up my MK3 sixer I'm sure I saw around half a dozen necks with M.Dixon penciled on them... how many do you have on order?
You were thinking about it anyway though, right..?
I've been tempted for a while, but this thread and a few emails back and forth with Alex this afternoon and I decided to give them a whirl. I've been unsure about barefaced cabs in the past due to a gen1 setup I tried a while back, but those had a very different driver, producing a very different tone to these and this looks like such a great portable solution I can't afford not to give it a fair go. When you travel to most of your gigs / sessions on public transport; flexibility, size and weight are key. I'm also confident these can deliver a tone I can use I will add my experiences here in a few weeks
