1. I was really impressed with the B1xon I had... great variety of amp models. I found the expression pedal a bit annoying though and it made the unit too big really. I'd like a regular B1on though... been keeping an eye out for one in the marketplace that isn't listed at £2 cheaper than a new one...
2. I have the Blue Soul which was the predecessor to the Blue Sky (which has since been superseded by the Blue Rock)... Bit of a confusing lineup as they still sell all three The Blue Soul is the best amp I have had... It is, as you say; very clean and essentially just the sound of your bass only louder. The EQ centers are well chosen and very musical if you need to balance your sound to a particular room, although I rarely even switch it in, just preferring the tone of the amp as it is..It has a deep powerful bottom end that is tight and not boomy, wooly or flappy (think GK but not as scooped)... plenty of power and cut. The Blue Sky is essentially a slightly tweaked version of the Blue Soul; marginally more power and extra control over the mids. Should my Blue Soul die I would get the Blue Rock as that seems to be their next gen model with more options and an improved overdriven sound. ... absolutely love Glockenklang gear. If their cabs were lighter I'd have gone with them over bergs.
3. I have just bought a Jazz so I must resist but wow... what a wonderful looking instrument ... gone by lunchtime I reckon
4. My current setup is: Black Amp, Black Cab.... so I'm not exactly pushing the boundaries
5.
Your A string may need a lift too, such bizarre gauges on these but still my fave string when they match the bass well.
Yes it did... was very buzzy when I first put it on. I ended up raising all the strings all up a bit suit the lowest possible position of the A. I've been trying to recreate the feel of an old MIJ P bass I had which played wonderfully well with low tension flats, but I think the feel of that bass may have been down to the vintage frets as much as the strings. Very pleased with the initial results having restring the Moollon with TIs. I'm going to give them a fair run before deciding to keep them or swap back to the la bellas.
6. Bought a set of TI Jazz Flats yesterday to try on my P bass as the la bellas felt a little stiff on the Moollon. Very impressed initially... Very different tension wise, had to adjust the truss rod, nice feel though. I shall let them bed in for a while and see if I prefer them.
7. Not so much as with basses... All things being equal I'd go for an amp / cab I thought looked better, but it's not as much of a factor as tone and weight.
8.
Just sayin'; I may fetch our ESP Baritone guitar to have a bash. Does that count as a bass; that's how it's strung and tuned at the moment..?
Yes indeed... I used a six string for the first months noodle, mostly high register stuff that could easily have been playing on a guitar... does that count as a bass noodle? I think in general, asides from a few guidlines to ensure the Noodle Bar remains open for all, the fewer regulations the better really. Let the voting sort out what constitutes a noodle and what doesn't. It's important that the competition (challenge) becomes what people want from it... if it doesn't change and adapt it will fizzle out. There is so little interest in these BC monthly challenges anyway we don't want to start putting people off before they've started.
9.
well, i decided to record and upload what i had in mind. (its here)
I like the lead part over the top... sounds like something I may have taken illicit substances to in my youth The bass guitar really is quite versatile and advances in technology are what will keep it relevant in the music of the future.
I'll enter it if people are okay with that, but don't want to ruin this for others so am happy to withdraw it if popular opinion deams so.
Your not ruining anything for anyone, don't let the looper thing put you off entering, the rule is yet to be clarified. The noodle bar is for everyone and the last things we want is to start scaring new entrants away!
10. And there it is... Looks amazing I hope you enjoy it
11. Looks fantastic... Congratulations
12. Sorry double post.... On the tube.
13. It's not a backlash... just a discussion on the looper rule, which is a little ambiguous. These things are bound to happen in the early days whilst the noodle bar works out exactly what it is. Enter whatever you like, nothing that has been said is an official rule, just a few BCers thoughts on the matter. I think it's a good sign people are interested enough in the competition to comment on stuff like this
14. My only experience of Eden was a little 110 cab I bought a couple of years back. It sounded great and was excellent value... it also had an instruction manual directly translated from Chinese which was hilarious.
15. Wonder how much it'll go for? Definitely room for a reliable musicians available / wanted site.
16.
Usually the person putting the bitsa together, puts it together with some specific use/sound in mind. If you don't find someone who thinks its a good mix too, you may struggle to get anywhere near the value you put in. A lot of people will pay extra for certain "badges". If yours doesn't have a badge, you're already at a disadvantage. When i sold a bitsa i put together it ended up selling for less than half the money i had spent on parts. Maybe i was unlucky/stupid for letting it go for that price? Dunno, but that is my experience. If you like it, and don't need to get rid, keep it. Or at least have a minimum price you'll take and don't allow yourself to take less.
This really... You may get more if you part it out? people looking for specific components will maybe pay a bit more for them...
17. This won't really be an issue going forward as no-one makes enough money from original music to warrant suing them...
18. Gents, a few thoughts on the looper thing... I do a lot of composing with loopers myself, I'm a huge fan of layering up bass parts to create a complex composition, but I'm not convinced that it's really in the spirit of the noodle bar... It's early days yet for the competition and it's still not fully defined what constitutes a noodle and what doesn't (it is also not my place to dictate the rules)... So far a number of noodlers have ended up using their minute for what essentially is a minute long solo bass composition, some on the other hand have posted up a single riff... None have submitted themselves playing smoke on the water a week after buying their first bass yet, but that would also be in the spirit of things. I think using a looper, especially if not building up the loops within the minute, to create a complex layered composition would fall under the remit of the full blown compo comp as opposed to the noodle bar. In my mind a noodle should be; PRESS RECORD - PLAY BASS - PRESS STOP Whether your doing that through a ton of high end recording gear, or plonking a phone in front of your cab doesn't matter. The beauty for me is in the simplicity.
19. I seem to have spent most of my life waiting for custom basses to be built... It doesn't get any easier. ... Always worth the wait when it arrives though
20. Sounds rubbish in the mix and also on the lower notes... mushes it all up and looses definition. I use it extensively on solo chordy bits though (essentially for anything in guitar territory), just got a TC hall of fame which is excellent * Also... I seem to be following you around BC this morning... I'm not a stalker... honest...
21.
Great name for a band!!
I just came here to say this... It would appear I have been beaten to it...
22. and we're up and running with the usual strong start to another month of BCs finest fried and crispy solo bass offerings...
https://soundcloud.c...un-april-noodle
A definite three parter this one... Ambient beginning to lure us all into a false sense of security before a flamboyant widdle any of maidens three guitarists would be proud of... and a very pleasant tuneful classical guitar esq bit to finish. I like the way that the flowing softer part at the end comes out of the more frantic passage that precedes it... that solo section gives the ending more impact as it's such a contrast... ... onward noodlers
23. And sold... Thanks for the interest gents
24.
Not a lot of money for a G&L, even if it is a Tribute!
I got a really good deal from the shop so just passing that on really... ..Also I've bought too much stuff recently and in my mind selling something kinda justifies it
