Where to find a band? Joinmyband / Bandmix?
CamdenRob replied to Moos3h's topic in General Discussion
I've used Gumtree with variable success in the past -

I have different basses for different occasions Wals for my original projects and passive fender styles for the sort of music where that's required / expected.
I find with some basses the bottom B sounds like a wet fart. Well, this thumps out of the bass like a.....
dry fart?
The black hardware looks great too. I'm usually against black on instruments, but this goes really well with the grains in the wood.
Always the best choice on natural instruments IMO
All of the hardware feels firm and secure and not like a cheap metal peice of crap. The volume/pickup selector/bass/etc controls alllow you to change the levels to millimetre precision.
I think this is very important and a sign of a quality instrument... On a good bass everything feels solid and tight, knobs turn smoothly with the right amount of resistance, tuners are solid and firm etc. Nothing puts me off a bass quicker than flimsy cheap feeling hardware.

Bored in the car: tone OR playability - you can only choose one...
Ah, maybe it was my mood but NOTHING I played felt 'right'. I guess I've put in a lot of hours on my OLP so it feels like home but even playing some silly expensive models was frustrating and left me feeling very flat and dejected. I'll try again, have no fear
Not spending loads of money and discovering you prefer the gear you already have is never a bad thing... I'd regard your trip as a triumph. -
It's a Jazz meets Stingray or, if you will, a Stingjay or 'Jay bass by Maruszczyc
It looks fantastic ez... really organic. I love the recessed control knobs, the whole instrument has wonderful flowing lines.

Can someone peek inside their Vanderkley 112MNT?
CamdenRob replied to funkle's topic in Amps and Cabs
This is very interesting... Good to know which drivers everyone is using, would be great to see a spec comparison and find out just how "variant" the variants are. -
We're nearly up to as many voters as entrants...
Not much change in the last seven years then, eh? http://basschat.co.u...mehamer-impact/
That's quite impressive to be fair... my "holy grail" bass gear changes every couple of days

I had a Marleaux Consat for a little while with Delano pups... sounded very clean and modern, bart like I would say. They seem to do a very diverse range though, so I don't really think they have a signature sound.

April Fools thing aside, the whole roadworn thing only really works on painted finishes IMO... A natural wood bass with chunks out of it isn't quite the same really...

CamdenRob replied to Moos3h's topic in General Discussion
Tone over playability if it came down to it... Fortunately we don't have to choose and many fine instruments offer the best of both 🙂 -
I don't have a problem with any profile, or a preference really... it doesn't take long to get used to a change. I find tight string spacing a bit of an issue, but other than that I can swap between neck profiles and not really notice the difference.
- jeez, do they seriously have to send you a letter in the post? How long does that (did that) actually take? Now I think paying for priority shipping was a mistake if someone is going to send me a freaking letter. 2nd class no doubt!
It wasn't too bad in the end. The bass sat at Heathrow for a few days with customs, then it got sent out to the local parcelforce depot and I got a letter the next day. Paid the charges online and then went to pick it up... but they would have delivered it the next working day (once the payment had cleared) had I wanted them too.
Wow I see we have had a deluge of votes! Haha
Everyone is just waiting until Friday in order to build suspense... It can't possibly be that no-one is remotely interested in listening to a bunch of isolated bass tracks 😯

Subsonic's DB noodle does it for me for the second month running in these early days of our fledgling competition... It just grooves so damn hard... I actually can't listen to it sitting still, you just have to move! KingBollock and Roland Rock were my other two choices out of another quality bunch
