1. I've been working on this myself having always been a finger style player... I saw a video of Bobby Vega on here somewhere recently and decided I'd very much like to be able to play like that should the situation call for it I'm getting there, although I'm not sure my technique would pass for "correct"... I'm finding I have to approach it slightly differently to when I'm playing guitar with a pick, I've actually got my index and middle finger on the underside of the pick when using it for bass
 2. As always I really hope I can make this, although I fear transport may be an issue as usual... ... One day I will actually get to one of these things
 3. I really like the standard series... especially the classic ones. Unlike the custom stuff, the prices are comparable with similar builders and the quality still looks top notch. ... been GASing for a Monarch standard classic for a while now. Classic vibe and modern pickups / preamp etc, would fill the gap in my current stable for a modern sounding fretted four very nicely Would have to swap out the PG for a black one though...
 4.
Actually that is so far out I really like it.
It looks like a camping toilet...
 5.
I don't have a list of specific things I hate, I think some things, like single cuts & fancy woods, work on some basses better than others. Having said that I saw this the other day, http://fodera.com/an...n-presentation/ Which as far as I'm concerned is very nearly through the far end of the spectrum of ugly & in danger of emerging out the other side.
You can purchase the updated version for a mere $35,000...
 6.
I think there was a thread on this about 6 months ago?
Yes probably, sorry if there was... anyway I like to keep us all rehashing the same old sh*t, I'm starting another thread on The Beatles being overrated later.
 7. Many of us have pet hates when it comes to the aesthetics of bass guitars (especially other peoples) - So with no good reason whatsoever for any of it, here is my list of things I think look god awful… Singlecuts Gold hardware Fender style instruments without pickguards Tort pickguards (except on a very very old sunburst jazz… maybe) Lakland bridges (the oval ones) PJ Pickup arrangements LEDs Headless basses Feature artwork (skulls, flowers, football badges, Michael Gove’s face etc…) So… What features make you want to bring up your lunch when someone posts a picture of an offending instrument? *disclaimer… yes yes I know how a bass sounds is more important than how it looks, as are a whole host of other criteria. I am also aware that what you play is more important that what you own, there is more to life that what bass guitars look like etc. etc…. yadda yadda. but feel free to post this sort of thing if it makes you feel better
 8. Probably because they look slightly different to a regular P bass which is an instant no no with about 50% of players... As others have said it makes sense really and should fatten up the higher strings a bit whilst tightening up the E & A. Still there isn't much wrong with the sound of a regular P pickup IMO, but I think the reverse P is an interesting alternative
 9.
Looks like it’s me up first again! Here’s this month’s noodle:
Lovely I like the little walking bit at the end. The Normalisation seems to have done the trick as well, that's plenty loud and clear... I shall attempt to do something similar with mine in garageband before uploading it. I have a little noodle for his month coming together, but as I may have an NDB later in the month, I think I'll wait until then to give the new bass an airing
 10. When you have found "The One" play it for about a week until something new and shiny appears in the marketplace and you want that instead...
 11. I don't know if they will... Part of the reason they are so popular is that you cannot get decent quality fender style instruments built to your specification anywhere else for the same price. Admittedly I've not played one, but at a glance they don't really seem to be offering anything new to compete with the others at a higher price point. I think they are going to be most successful at their current price point where they have no competition.
 12. I suppose it's a bit of a mixed bag for exhibitors... especially if your a one man outfit who's brought a handful of builds along. If you sell everything in the first half hour then then you end up with an empty stand for two days and not a lot of people checking out your instruments... probably miss out on a bunch of orders.
 13.
Ive never played a Rickenbacker, now I really want to see what there all about.
To save you the trouble of trying one, you can simulate the experience by borrowing your drummers sticks and hitting them together...
 14. Been honing my slap technique in preparation for the weekend....
 15.
I think they ripped Slade far more musically?, what a sh*t band Oasis (thankfully) were. For me they introduced all the people that were knobs into dance music into the live music scene, I remember seeing lads at gigs that previously bullied school friends for playing the guitar!
Yep... this was my experience of it at school in the 90s.
 16.
Anything by Oasis.
/thread
 17.
Hey Rob that's class. Thanks a lot mate. May catch you around sometime.
I've just read through all your London section of the blog... It's a really engaging read and sounds like you've been through some sh*t trying to do what you want with your life. I'm far too much of a "safe and secure job" type guy to ever have the balls to go it alone like you are! I really hope things work out for you. Make sure you post up any gigs etc.
 18.
Our singer bought one before, and as great a singer as he is, couldnt grasp the concept of when it needed triggering. So funny too, as he was such a good singer, wasn't used to see him struggling.
Yeah it's odd isn't it... The girl in question is awesomely talented, a great guitarist as well as a singer, but absolutely could not trigger a loop in time.
 19. RE natural rhythm... A friend of Mrs Cs who is an excellent singer / guitarist / songwriter with her own blusey folky stuff was over the other night and wanted to have a go on my looper... She absolutely could not grasp it at all... just could not hit the pedal at the right point to get the right part looping. I found it odd as it's not something I've ever struggled with since I first started using one, never given the mechanics of it a second thought. You just just hit the pedal on the beat at the start and then again at the end of the last bar and it repeats the phrase between the pedal presses. She understood it... just couldn't get close to the right timing.
 20.
I envy you guys. My old dads a pretty bright guy....aerospace industry etc and likes music and showed an interest so I did exactly the same thing a few years ago with an acoustic. I showed him a few things, went away for a few months only to return with him unable to hold the thing let alone play it, pity really.
It's all relative... I wouldn't expect my dad is much cop at aerospace engineering...
 21. Well here we are again... wonder if the initial interest will remain now we're lurking here in the depths of the recording forum I shall have another go this month, with something resembling an actual bassline this time... I think I shall attempt to showcase my recent progress with pick playing, dubious as it may be Looking forward to hearing a new batch of noodles from BCs great and good...
 22.
The biggest killer of start-ups is not having everyone available at the same time. For example, you post your ad looking for a guitarist, drummer and singer. The same day you get two or three guitarists respond saying they're interested and you say "wow, that's great! I'll be in touch when we've got a drummer!". Two weeks pass and you finally get hold of a drummer and by then the guitarists have moved on, bored, and you've been turning down enquiries from other guitarists because you already had a couple lined up. Which means that you need to give new enquirants a couple of weeks to learn the songs. So then the drummer also needs a couple of weeks to get up to speed with the songs during which time the guitarists that may have decided to wait for you suddenly remember that they won't be available on the day that you've all agreed on for the first jam which puts the whole thing off for another week. So it's a month since you've posted the ad with no movement. That's what kills start-up bands. The trick is to get lucky and to be able to recruit the whole band within a few days.
This is very true... I've tried to mitigate this by advertising for just one person at a time. I always try and get the drummer in first.
 23. Sounds like a great plan... Retirement is the perfect time to do this sort of thing My dad has also recently retired and has taken up playing the guitar / songwriting again after my mum bought him a nice acoustic for an anniversary present. I bought him a USB interface and he's downloaded some sort of DAW. After much frustration trying to figure it all out he has now started recording his own songs and uploading them to soundcloud... ... hasn't played guitar / sung properly for over 40 years and two months after taking it up again his musical output is better than mine...
 24.
And the winner is... SubsonicSimpleton..! Well done, sir. ... which looks like this (but bigger, of course..!)...

Wow nice work Douglas I'll treasure it, Feels like I just won the internet - thanks very much to everyone who made the effort to participate, vote, and moderate.
Well done indeed Sir... I voted for yours as one of my three
 25.
The one where I live in three completely different areas of London in one entry. I live on the edge of Camden / Kentish Town and can visualize just about everywhere you describe.
