NBD (Well, it was actually on Saturday!) Fender Roadworn P
CamdenRob replied to Marc S's topic in Bass Guitars
Looks fantastic... I love that color scheme on a P ... I'd leave it as is with the white pickguard as well -
I've changed my mind. I think I will go for "failed musician".
I'll go for "failed guitarist"...

Just to add that I'm not mortally offended if someone calls me a bass guitarist. ... I'm called worse on a daily basis at work.
I collect eighteenth-century English drinking glasses. Who knew? Everyone, now.
Glasses paah... I drink out of a skull patched up with bits of leather...

Looks fantastic, will be very interested to hear how you get on I've been using a Blue Soul for the last year or so and am very happy with it. If I was looking to buy a new Glock I'd definitely be getting this one.
If you want to a translator to order, send me a pm.
They are pretty hot on the English fortunately... I've been dealing with General Manager Andi Roselund, whose English is considerably better than my Korean...

I much prefer "bassist" or "bass player" to "bass guitarist" I know bass is shaped and played similar to a guitar but that's where the similarity ends. They are completely different instruments, fulfilling different roles and requiring a very different skill set and musical approach. Despite what the uninitiated may think, we do not just play the same as the guitar an octave lower...

I love being a bass player because...

I like it too -
Buy a new amp! In fact buy two! The wheels of capitalism won't oil themselves you know... ... Alternatively try this
If you can plug an extension cab into it, that would be the way to get more volume out of it!
Man my house is full of stuff i don't need that I've bought over the years, thinking i couldn't live without it. I buy stuff (like bass gear) to justify to myself why I do an awful awful job for 50 hours a week, telling myself its for the money so that i can buy all this sh*t I couldn't possibly be happy in my life without. The thing is i don't really need half of this stuff and i've come to the recent realisation I should probably just do something better with my time for less money and not buy as much crap...

I voted "look down in horror. Put it down on the floor and walk out" for all three...
My name is Rob and I'm a GASoholic. That's all the justification I can muster!
Me too, on both counts This is my favorite spurious justification so far;
it fits in the car easier when we stay with relatives... Thanks chaps I have not set a reserve, but I have set a minimum starting bid so I presume that protects me from it automatically accepting low bids? The ad says collection only in the shipping bit so it looks like I've got that bit right. I have set it up to accept paypal, but reading the above this may be an error if it's super easy for me to get swindled? Should I change the ad to cash on collection only?
I've owned a bass with Bart soapbars and also tried another in a shop and thought they both sounded flat, dull and lifeless. I'm sure they're not all like that though!
I have to agree I'm afraid based on my limited experience... very clinical... not a lot of life in there.

Wal Fretted 6 Wal Fretless 6 - Incoming Moollon Classic P - incoming Peterbuilt Fretless Jazz Modern 4 - not yet bought Glockenklang Blue Soul Berg CN210 Berg CN112 - not yet bought OK so after a recent flurry of buying, selling and ordering I've decided to try and justify to myself why I have/want the gear I've got already / the gear I have incoming... No real reason it just makes me feel better to pretend there is some reasoning behind it, rather than just buying shiny new bass gear to fill the void in my soul created by the hours I have to spend doing my unfalteringly s**t job. Wal fretted and fretless 6ers cover all my original band needs. I have the tone I want and the range I need for my various projects. I also however have need of traditional looking and sounding instruments for projects where I am a sideman to singer / songwriter types. I also may at some point be looking to escape the daily grind of my work and go part time and maybe earn a little bit on the side from music, pub covers, teaching etc. and the traditional looking and sounding P would stand me in good stead for this. I would also have the fretless Jazz should the need arise. This leaves me outstanding a modern sounding 4 for slappity tappity nonsense... I would like to get a G&L tribute L2000 to tide me over for the time being, but I will eventually get a luthier built modern fretted four... probably ACG. Amplification wise, I have settled on Glockenklang... It does everything I need at more volume than I could ever use... I have used the berg cn210 on it's own for rehearsals with a loud rock drummer and it was more than enough volume wise. I love the tone of this combination and I would like to add a cn112 (especially after the recent price drop) to give me the option of just using that for smaller acoustic type situations and adding it to the 210 if I ever need to gig without PA support. So there we go, that's me... and yes I am aware that all I really need is a Squier CV and a Fender rumble What's your excuse?

Hi Guys, I'm after some advice from the ebay initiated... I've just listed some guitar cabs for the first time, I've never used ebay before. I followed what seemed like the right thing to do, set a reserve price, set collection only etc... The advert looks ok but are there any pitfalls I should be watching out for? It's not set to automatically accept low bids or anything silly like that? What happens if the reserve is not met? Presumably the advert just disappears? Any advice appreciated

TYPICAL OF BUYING AND SELLING FOR ME..I BET THIS IS COMMON..
CamdenRob replied to fatwull's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely. I didn't start spending serious wedge on bass gear until after I'd joined this forum.
I hadn't had a bass for ten years until I signed up here... -
I want a versatile one that will do as much as poss.
Maybe don't get the boss then... it has one button and does one thing
Ah, so you took the plunge – good on you! I’ve been getting pretty close myself but just don’t have the funds to hand at the moment. Nothing I’ve read suggests it will be anything other than a great buy, and I agree that this is the perfect colour combo.
You'll have to pop over for a noodle when it arrives There has been a slight price hike since you looked into it and the classic P is now $2299 + I'll get hit for VAT and import duty, so it's not a cheap option unfortunately... I've been looking into the ethos behind the instruments and the amount of effort he's put into creating the pre-CBS vibe is astonishing, even doing stuff which must make absolutely no difference whatsoever, like working out the zinc content of the original metal parts etc. so he can recreate them Looking forward to an NBD sometime in June
Very nice! Sounds Great (the UK supplier mentioned in the OP) are a shortish drive away from me. I might pop my head in and have a look. Leaving my wallet at home, for safe keeping
Yes they seem to only stock the pedals unfortunately... no-one seems to stock the actual basses. I suspect that this is because there aren't that many of them... From what I can gather they are made in small batches and they take orders whilst the bodies, necks etc are in process and don't really have any instruments in stock. Bit of a risk ordering from somewhere I cannot easily get the bass back to if there are any issues, but I'm sure everything will be fine I like the idea that everything is made in house (including the tuners... even Wal don't do that)... anyway time will tell if this was a wise decision
If it's that particular colour it's a beaut! 'Eggshell blue', or something? Whatever. Looks fab.
Yes it's that exact color combo. Sonic Blue nitro, Mint guard, Ebony board... ... just got a confirmation email so it's definitely a goer
Haha! Another bass, Rob?? Well, why not eh. Let us know how it sounds.
I know, I don't deserve the ones I've got... Got a while yet, I've reserved one of 4 sonic blue P bodies from a batch due in the spring. Apparently they are in process, but have 20 coats of lacquer or something similar to dry out or whatever it is lacquer has to do... so after bolting all the bits together, electrickery etc. hopefully it'll arrive mid June Been GASsing for a P bass for ages and I kept looking for something like this one... in the end I though I might as well get this actual one.

OK... So I may have ordered one of these...
I gig for a living and I certainly don't feel it's another form of rut. Saturdays and some Fridays are my bigger earning nights doing functions, the rest of my gigs are generally pub/bar work. Like Blue, I love what I do. I may not be a rich man but I'm happy in my work. I approach my gigs with the attitude that I'm going to play to my best ability and put on a good show, like most of the musicians around me. And after all these years I still get excited getting ready to leave the house for a gig. I don't have time for half-arsed performances and attitudes. I do take my work seriously and yes, it's still a job, but it beats doing 40+ hours a week in an office or warehouse. I know this because I've done both. I have the best job in the world and long may it continue.
The more I read of people who feel like this the more I think I need to make some life changes...

That looks fantastic... how tight is the string spacing?
