1.
Expect to pay an additional 25% on top of the cost of the bass plus shipping.
about £3.5k all told then... which is about average for an older MK3 fiver.
 2. True but it's easier than saying "sorry I can't be arsed to come to your gig as I'd rather sit at home in my pants watching celebrity big brother"...
 3. How does the importing thing work from the US? there must be VAT and import taxes etc? ... even with all that on top though this still looks like a good deal!
 4.
Here's my entry. Didn't do what I originally had planned as I reckon two tracks would be cheating so I've done this with just the one track. Also I hope folk don't mind but it says 1:02 but there's a bit of silence either side...I forgot to edit it out and I've now just realised I forgot to save... https://soundcloud.c...sschat-noodle-1
Sounds great, is that the ACG? it's a lovely clear tone.
 5. The thing is though we all bemoan the closure of traditional music shops whilst buying everything cheaper online from companies with no shop on the high street to pay for and massive buying power... can't really have it both ways can we? Of course the crappy service experienced by he OP doesn't help matters.
 6. I've found Glockenklang to be the cleanest amps I can find, having tried various GK, Genz Shuttle stuff and most of the other usual suspects in the "modern" camp, I've stuck with the Blue Soul for over a year now and couldn't be happier with it. It's easy to confuse "clean" with "scooped" and I'd say that Glockenklang gear is essentially just an amplification of the tone of your bass. The EQ is very usable but to be honest I rarely even have it switched in. Things have moved on a bit now and Glockenklangs latest Class D (the Blue Rock) looks even better, although it is outside the £500 budget new... You might be able to find a Blue Soul or a Blue Sky used though...
 7. Bump Will happily trade up to a Wal pro series, or trade up / down for vintage fenders (all original)
 8.
You shouldn't do any damage to the guitar amp. The internals aren't an issue, the only potential problem is feeding the speaker too much low frequency content, but most guitar amps filter the deep lows anyway, plus you're rolling off the bass EQ. Just listen to the guitar rig in isolation and you should be able to test how bassy it sounds! If you want a more portable version of this setup you can try a Tech21 California (or the dirt cheap Joyo clone) which is a Mesa simulator, and blend your clean bass with that via the LS-2 and send the mixture to your bass rig.
OK great, I am a little worried about shredding my guitar cabs... Is there a high pass filter pedal or similar out there I can use to filter out anything going to the guitar rig which can cause my cabs damage? I do have a Tech 21 US Steel pedal for guitar which is supposed to emulate my amp (I bought it for when I am forced to use someone else's rig on multi band nights etc.)... It's not bad but it's not a patch on the actual amp... Will definitely suffice for a more portable solution though.
 9.
I thought I'd add something tuneless, which barely approaches the upper registers! https://soundcloud.com/leonard-smalls/crispy-fried-noodles Sorry!
Great stuff... I might do something slapity next month in honour of all the guys trying out gear at the London bass guitar show.
 10. OK... So I've made a bit of an error... I've tried splitting my signal through an LS-2 to my bass rig with my normal eq etc and also to my Mesa guitar rig, on the red channel with most of the bass taken out on the amp eq. Unfortunately this is exactly the tone I want and now I'm trying to justify taking two amps with me everywhere 😕 Because the Mesa is all valve it responds to dynamics just the way I want. It is only a mini rectifier, so fairly easy to add on the trolley I usually use for getting my bass rig around on the tube. I will just have to rely on using studio / venue cabs. Trouble is... Now I have opened the Pandora's box of effects can I get the lid back on before I end up looking at filters, octavers etc 😕 ... Oh dear. Also... Can I damage my guitar amp / cabs running a bass through them?
 11. Some more great advice here from the BC breathern... I've watched so many YouTube demos of dirt pedals now that I can't see the wood for the trees at the moment 😕 Hopefully heading down to Denmark street today to try a few out The battery power thing is just a personal preference at the moment. I'm trying to avoid having to carry a board around with me at this stage. Although that does seem to be inevitable in the end....
 12.
My Thumb GAS will never go away, but man alive I don't miss the awful balance and reach to 1st position. They're gorgeous basses and incredible sounding instruments, but they don't fit short arses like myself so well... Eude
I had a NT thumb sixer for a bit and the ergonomics were very strange, it hung in a very odd place on the strap, felt like it wanted to slide around to the left all the time. Seriously neck heavy as well... It sounded absolutely awesome though
 13. Another one on the Warwick bandwagon here... It just has such a greater presence than the others to my ears, so much more life to the sound.
 14. Nothing like this ever surprises me... I hope you get full compensation
 15. Lots of variables there, cost, tone etc..? If you're looking for something like your old EBS rig, maybe start with having a look at the Gallien Kruegar lightweight stuff (MB heads and neo cabs), or EBS lightweight gear of course A lot of the other options tend towards the old school, SVT type vibe... Orange, Ashdown, Fender Rumble etc.
 16. yeah loads of good stuff in that range What do you like / dislike about your current bass? Also what are you looking for in terms of styling?
 17.
I've got a Digitech Bad Monkey sitting around. Quite happy to send it to you if you want to try it out. Then, you can buy it if you like it or send it back. PM me if you're interested. It's a good sounding pedal for a cheapie and can be modified to sound even better for bass.
That's very kind of you... I'm going to see how the big muff works out but I'll drop you a line if I need something different
 18. I tried to buy a cab from them once but they wouldn't deliver it to me on a Saturday so I bought it from Bassgear instead.
 19. It's beautiful but only trades for me at the moment GLWTS
 20. phwoor nice bass... Will it be making an appearance in the "play any old sh**e" challenge?
 21.
I advise you to snap up the Source Audio OFD currently going in the classifieds. It does overdrive, distortion and fuzz in one unit, has a clean blend and EQ and can sound massive. There's a lot of good and bad sounds in it, but it can do a really good tubey overdrive and Big Muff sound.
That looks like a versatile solution but I notice it doesn't run on batteries which is a bit of a deal breaker for me. There is so much out there, I'm thinking I should just buy something and see how it works out... maybe I can work out what I want by virtue of what I don't want if you see what I mean. I'm awaiting a response on the availability of a local big muff, so I'll see how that pans out.
 22.
I think a fuzz for me what you want for huge fat sounds, have a look at the cog effects tarkin or maybe a sovtek based fuzz. A light drive into a fuzz sounds massive imo, I use ATM a pike Vulcan xl into a fuzzrocious grey stache or rat tail Andy

It's such a personal thing. Fuzzes are very popular but I much prefer distortions. The Fuzzrocious Cat Tail sounds huge. COG and Idiotbox also do Rat clones that work great for bass.
Thanks chaps... it's a very daunting world I know nothing about
...however, if you're just have a huge sound, any old fuzz blended with your clean signal would do. I like the clean to provide the bottom and top, with the fuzz covering the middle (in terms of EQ) which helps with definition. Maybe something like that is possible with your zoom multi?
Yes I'm thinking this is the rotue to go down for now. I've enquired about a locally available big muff in the marketplace that appears to have a blend so I can mix it with my clean signal. I do like the zoom, it's a good piece of kit to use as a front end for recording when you have limited skills for that sort of thing like myself. I find it a little... well digital I guess, a little clinical and compressed, for my live needs. The idea with this project is that I will need to be very dynamic as there is no guitar and I'm filling all the spectrum. I'm looking for something which responds to dynamics in my playing so if I'm playing softly as a build up that'll produce a different subtle tone to full on thumping out riffs. The zoom just does one tone regardless of playing dynamics.
 23. ah don't worry about it... my isolated bass tracks have more finger noise and strings slapping the fretboard etc than notes in some cases... As others have said it's unnoticeable in a band setting . I'm a big fan of bright new rounds... even on fretless.
 24.
There's so much choice. Empress do a nice 3 in 1 pedal, the EHX Soul Food sounds good to me too, EBS Valvedrive and Billy Sheehan pedals....Good luck!
There does seem to be a lot out there... it would appear I have much to learn
you OP implies you already have a decent guitar rig, is that right? If so, you really can't beat running a bass rig clean at the same time as a dirty guitar rig
Yes I've got a Mesa Rectifier guitar rig but I'm thinking practically I'm not going to be carting a bass rig and a guitar rig along to gigs / rehearsals etc... Would I have to send the signal to the guitar rig an octave up?
 25.
Blatant plug: The Tecamp Dream Buzz Deluxe I'm selling has all sorts of gritty flavours to it, and doesn't lose bottom end at all.
Plugs are OK, I do actually need to buy something... I suspect I'll have a go at some cheaper bits first and foremost, just to get a feel for what I want. ... I've noticed a deluxe big muff in the marketplace in london so might give that a go initially.
