Look a lot like Wal pickups to me, anyone have any idea if they are similar?
Not really close according to that video... They certainly look the part, but the sound is very clean. Sounds to my ears more like it has a set of Barts in it than anything approaching Wal pickups.
-
I think it is inevitable that I'm going to end up with a Maruszczyk P bass at some point in the near future...
-
I never really got pick playing until I recently discovered Bobby Vega... Been having a bit of a dabble with it myself in recent times I don't think I'll ever use it in a band context but still, it's a useful technique to have.
In the real world, let's face it, there is no such thing as a "cool" bass. In our heads, maybe, but in the real world?
Indeed... The coolest bass is one with a scale length around 25" and six skinny strings you can play chords on whilst singing about girls.
Apropos of nothing... just done an update and some new content on the Wal History blog. See whatca think. http://walbasshistory.blogspot.co.uk/
Great stuff Trevor. The webs best Wal information resource continues to grow Ever thought about reviving the old serial number database and bringing it more up to date? A lot of work there I guess!
I suppose I best enter myself.
Your noodle had better be something good after all this fuss...
That's not very mature, is it??
indeed... good thing too, If I was more mature I'd be in one of the "losing" age groups...
-
Early days but my age group is winning! woohoo!

I'm going for a piece inspired by this thread.... not quite sure how to convey that in musical form but 'll give it a go.
I need to stop reading this thread...
Yes me too...

I'm undecided on the keytar... It's so uncool that it's not even cool in a hipster ironic way for being so uncool. ...but on the flip side of that anyone sporting a keytar in public is clearly so disinterested in conforming to fashion that they in a way are the very essence of cool. ... not that I would know anything about being cool and popular
-
If you know he's gone in a bar late, just play the backing a bar longer... so you all come back in at the same time. That's got to be better and it all clashing and then arguing about who was right.
-
Anything but the Keytar

I've put bands together in the past (and am doing so again at the moment) and would have no issue whatsoever with people over 60 turning up to audition... ... In my bands age is utterly irrelevant, the right man for the job is the right man for the job and that's all that matters to me.
Here y'go then ABG and a couple of WIPs missing from pic.
What a lovely collection Rich Something for every situation in there

Essential gig tool\spares/emergency kit?
CamdenRob replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
I have a small leather pouch I take to all rehearsals / gigs... (No it is not a ladies purse. ) and in it I have fuses (plug and amp) spare batteries (bass and tuner) truss rod / saddle tools, string cutters and all the various little bits and bobs I might need. Asides from that, bass, cable, amp, cab and I'm ready oh and also a spare set of strings and spare cable in the gigbag. ... (honestly it isn't a ladies purse ) -
Looks really really nice I have a real itch for a fretless jazz and this is really making me want to get one! I love bright yellow really suits the bass with the ebony board.
Well if it helps Peter will build you any fender style spec in any color I believe he uses colors from the automotive industry, he's got a bass on his facebook page at the moment described as "Maple Fretless 57-style P bass in Ford Mustang Pagoda Green" Although I have to admit, that for pure value for money, if you were looking for a fretless jazz in a custom color it's got to be worth looking at what Maruszczyk can offer.
I showed the first page of the thread up to your post to the Mrs last night & she was in kinks for a good 10 mins! So much so, that she said she's gonna enter too (& she's never played the bass).
Inspired by Mrs xgsix, Mrs C has said she will also enter the "Play any old sh*te challenge" should it come to life... and she's never played the bass either, or any other musical instrument.
can you justify/afford 5 P basses?
Oh please don't, I could do without any encouragement like that. I think there is a high chance I would find myself single if I bought those five P basses... Then again if Mrs c moves out I will have room for the five P basses...
-
Yeah I can see the attraction of it being freeform, I guess it would remove any barriers to using pieces you had already come up with and wanted to share. I just think it'll be difficult to judge the submissions against each other without some kind of common denominator.
Maybe people can select there own inspiration and be judged not only against others noodles but there own inspirations? Maybe not.
That's heading more towards the idea of a dedicated thread as opposed to an organized competition... which is fine if that's the general consensus I just feel that it needs a competitive edge to retain anyone's interest... As mentioned above, hardly anyone goes to the shared music forum threads as it is* and I can't see a thread of unrelated noodles being one people flock too... *As a side note, I did very much appreciate everyone who took the time to review and comment on my recent thread in the shared music forum.
