1. Bump I went over this bass in minute detail the other day and could only find these two dings. Still open to trades Maybe a nice P bass...
  2.
I don't know if you guys have seen this vid (it seems new). It features a Frog with an ACG/East filter preamp with familiar looking pickups. In fact the general look of the area of the bass shown in the vid is very familiar.
.. Any idea of a price on that with the multi coils?
  3.
Of the many things A Wal can be, cheap is not usually one of them. What is a reasonable price £3000-3500 ?
Before the recent price increase the base price for an MK3 sixer was £5450... With the increase I expect that is now £5650 + extra for specialist facings, matched headstocks etc. hence £3500 for the American Walnut sixer on ebay is pretty good
while I am after a mk1 fretless ideally I keep seeing 5 string ones and they look lush...what is the usual scale length on the 5 string Wal?
I believe they are all 34" ... my sixer is and so is my MK1
  4.
I suppose if endorsements didn't sell gear then manufacturers wouldn't bother producing them. A friend of the current mrs discreet's teenage daughter asked me to recommend a bass for her to begin playing on, I recommended a Squier VM. The girl demanded (and got) a sparkly silver Mikey Way signature, so there you go.
Choosing a bass is so much easier when you first start out... Is it made of a quality tonewood, is it a respectable brand?, decent pickups / preamp? The weight, any neck dive, high action etc? Who cares about any of that crap? ...It is Sparkly Silver? Yes it is... job done... Mikey who?
  5. What about string endorsements? I can't see many rushing out to buy their favorite players strings... In the unlikely event I was in a position to command endorsements, strings would be number one on my list of useful things to not have to pay for....
  6. Trujillo really is a pretty major name to have bagged for the show... Hopefully with some bigger names attending that will mean more of the major manufacturers can be persuaded to exhibit in future years
  7.
The question is... will he make you want to buy Vanderklay gear?
Check the items wanted thread tomorrow...
  8.
If you like his stuff, you may enjoy Cody Wright... emerging pick player.
I shall retire to youtube and investigate...
  9.
So... isn't great demos on Youtube (or at trade shows) more important than who is using them?
To me yes definitely ... although on the subject of Mr Vega I've never heard anyone sound that good with a pick before, so the demo video inspired me to check out some more of his stuff. So in a way it was Mesa that put me on to him not the other way round
  10.
But was that because of Bobby Vega? If another unknown bass player had played exactly the same lines and sounded exactly the same... or it didn't disclose it was BV playing or his his identity, would you still be interested? What I'm trying to say, is your interest in this product influenced anyway because of Bobby Vega?
I had no idea who he was until I saw the video... So no but, I was definitely influenced by the sound the rig made when he was playing thorough it. Of course it wouldn't sound half as good with my picking technique though
  11.
I don't really care what anyone else plays, they mostly endorse stuff for the money anyway... Makes me laugh when players have several signature basses from different manufacturers. Do your own thing, choose the gear you think sounds best, don't buy gear to sound like someone else ... (unless you're playing in a tribute band obviously )
Having said that, I wanted to buy a new mesa subway rig after I saw this on youtube...

  13. Sounds good
  14. I don't know if anyone had mentioned OBBM yet?
  15.
Someone on here came up with a good definition quite recently along the lines of anyone who earns more money from music than they have spent on their equipment can be described as professional.
That is absolutely definitely not me...
  16.
Thanks for the reply's guys. Decided to have a go myself. Cost £17 for the blank scratchplate material & the screws. I think it came out ok. 17. I would assume that the covers / function / wedding band thing is the easiest route to earn a living from playing bass? maybe cruise work or orchestra pit work too? add in a bit of teaching? So key skills along with the obvious being a good player would be, backing vocals, able to read, solid theory for transposing on the fly etc. and most importantly absolutely no ego about what you're prepared to play... do whatever you're told if the price is right. Playing guitar when needed etc would also be a useful skill. From what I read on here it would seem that versatility is the key... money coming in from as many different places as possible so you're not reliant on one gig. I am far to precious about being in control of what I'm playing, so I'd never have what it takes to earn a living from playing bass.

I'd have to order a custom one though because that has a tort pickguard and tort makes me feel sick...
I think Adrian will build you whatever you want!
ah fair enough I was just looking through the models on their website the other day and couldn't see a standard P.

They look fantastic... I have permanent GAS for a P with flats. I'd like to get one from a UK builder really, but there don't seem to be any around doing fender shapes... (Limelight only do relic finishes). Going a bit further afield, I've been tempted by Maruszczyk as they seem to represent astonishing value for a custom build, but they don't seem to offer a straight P.
  21.
Rob, did you see the fretless sixer on Ebay???
Yes I did, it's a few months too late as I have already placed an order for a new build... I am very tempted to buy it to tide me over until mine arrives (summer 2017) and sell my MK1 fretless to pay for it, but I'm concerned that the fretless sixer will be much harder to move on when I need to pay for the new build...
  22. That's lovely...
  23.
Money no object, I'd definitely buy one.
... me too.

I assume there would be VAT and import duty to consider if ordering direct?
