I can't say I ever really practice with the intention of improving my playing. I only pick up my bass if I have some parts to work on for one of my bands, or I'm writing new material etc... ... this probably explains why my playing hasn't got any technically "better" since I was about 17
Part of me can kind of understand that way of doing it...not saying I would audition like that but I can see it's positives. I know that a lot of what my end up doing comes from improvised jams so this naturally ends up in us just making stuff up at gigs every so often. I'm pretty sure its extremely unprofessional but it's fun so I don't really care I imagine it was to see how you would adapt under pressure and when you weren't prepared.
Oh yes definitely, had some great songs come out of jams over the years. The whole thing just had an air of trying to trip me up... I half expected the final stage would be them sending me out of the room so I couldn't hear the other guys play and seeing how I got along playing to that.

I had a bizarre audition on Friday... I wrote some bass parts for the two audition tracks in advance and was pretty pleased with how it sounded with the band at battle volume, the guys thought it was cool as well. I was then presented with "lets try you on something you haven't heard" I was then told chords and off they went. Sounded good as the track was better than the audition tracks but seemed a bit odd as this wasn't an improv band... anyway following that I was then presented with a song and not told the chords... so I kind of blagged it by a combination of listening to the intro to guess the key and watching the guys hands to guess upcoming chord shapes... What the hell is the deal with that? It's an audition why are you trying to catch me out? was weird... didn't get it in the end which is fair enough as I was totally unsuitable for the kind of image they were trying to go for. ... all experience I guess.

I bought one of these from Argos. http://www.argos.co....ber/7001538.htm It's great... I use it on the tube / buses for wheeling my rig about. I use a pair of hardcore luggage straps to secure everything to it and it's not let me down yet It's 10cm taller then the maplin one which I found a bit short, I had to stoop down a bit to wheel it along and that made it a bit uncomfortable...

The only reason I haven't bought this and sold my MK1 fretless, is that I have a fretless 6 on order and the MK1 will be easier to sell to pay for the new build when the time comes.

I don't regret moving on any of my previous basses, I liked several of them a lot, but it was all a journey to get where I am now. I tried pretty much everything to find out what I wanted.... It's different with amps / cabs as I have weight / size limitations in what I can actually get to the gig. But with basses, even given an infinite budget I would still play my current one.
-
Well hurry up and open it I'd be interested to hear how you get on Like you I also currently have the single mono with a Wal in it but have the need to transport two basses... I came to the conclusion that the double would be too heavy to be practical though?

I like it and I'm not a dentist, doctor, lawyer or CEO... I'm a glorified builder ...in fact i'm not even that really anymore, these days I mostly just walk around building sites pointing at things and tutting.
I played this bass a few weeks ago. It's beautiful, it plays amazing and sounds fantastic. I was so close to buying it, the only reason that I didn't was because I've never played a fretless 6 on a reading gig, which all of my gigs are. This is a bargain too.

I'll say! I have the 4-string version of this, love it to bits. Shame it's got one too many string for me. GLWTS... not that I expect you'll need it.
Thanks gents Still for sale / trade. -
Most of you will be familiar with these tiny powerhouses. lighter than a pick and fits in your pocket.... well OK not quite but close.

200 watts @ 4 ohms; 140 watts @ 8 ohms
10dB pad
Four-band active EQ w/contour
Headphone/line output
XLR out, pre/post EQ
Speakon output
7.75x8x1.75
2 lbs
I really rate these little amps, they have the classic GK tone in spades, deep, bright and powerful, but can also do a fair imitation of a more traditional tone by steering clear of the contour switch and boosting the mids Looking for £125 shipped in the UK or can be collected from Camden NW1.

Looking for £250 each or will do the pair for £450 Collection only from Camden NW1 I have two mint condition (with covers) Mesa Mini Rectifier 112 cabs I no longer require. I bought these last year when I took up guitar to set up a hardcore band. Having always been a bass player, I've always needed my own cab but as a guitar player it turns out every venue / studio seems to have a decent cab and I only need to take my amp... These haven't left the house so they are flawless. These are the quintessential cab for the heavier styles of metal, nothing else compares IMO. I am sure they are just as versatile for other styles but the primary market is definitely the heavier end of things! 19 3/4" high 18" wide 11" deep Weighing in at just over 15kg, so easy on the back as well as the ear Specs from Mesa Website. I had a shuttlemax12.2 and 2x genz neo 212s at one point... It was ridiculous, could have played a stadium with it...

Unless it's something that will be impossible to reacquire a similar one later if you change your mind, just get rid of it and try something else
I think it looks great. There are some nice ACGs with holly tops too, it's like a natural vintage white.
I saw a holly top ACG jazz on here somewhere a while back and i think it was one of the nicest ACGs I've seen... if it had the multi-coil pickups I would have been very tempted, although I think it was a custom order and not available to buy anyway.
A standard Preision is 20 frets and this is 22 frets, so the positioning is likely to be bang on (as you mention, they probably have done their due diligence), but the extra frets makes it look too far forward. Si
ah fair enough... I did suspect they had worked it out properly as opposed to just plonking it wherever.

Gigging bassists... how many basses do you own?
A few years ago I knew a guy who use a 50 pence piece as a pick...
bet that sounded good... -
The pickup looks a lot closer to the neck than the fender position... IMO the positioning of the pickups on a bass has a huge effect on the instruments fundamental tone, more so than the woods used, so I'd be interested to hear how this sounds. The Fender P has just the right balance of plumby deep bass and low mid growl for my tastes, looking at this id be a little worried about it sounding too boomy without enough punch... then again it's a Fodera so I'd imagine they've thought it out
-
It's growing on me... I think it's quite elegant in it's simplicity.
-
Bet it sounds pretty good with flats and the tone rolled off... then again so did my old Jap P and that didn't cost $4000
-
I think it looks pretty good... *sorry if that photo comes out massive... I did try and scale it down a bit.

Bump! Open to trades with anything interesting, try me although the exchange would have to happen somewhere I can get to on public transport. Looking for fretted four strings primarily, I'm sorted for Fretless and Amplification right now... Only up trade would be for a Wal pro2 or pro2e, for which I can add a grand or so depending on condition. As a side note, I have had quite a bit of interest from European buyers... Please note that I am not looking to ship the bass at this time. -
So much choice in the sub £350 bracket... you would probably only really need to spend £200 / £250 to get something that would potentially do everything you need and last a lifetime.
