I've an audition tomorrow... band has asked, which amp I would prefer (out of the studios selection of four) so they can set it up ready for me. They have also sent me full chord charts for the two audition tracks and told me to do whatever I like with the basslines. ... it's quite refreshing.

My local one never has anything interesting, it's mostly racks and racks of old movies on VHS... Do VHS players even exist anymore? I have no idea how they manage to sell enough stuff to pay for the staff, premises, bills etc.

It has to be that bit at the start of another one bites the dust surely? actually it's pretty much the same all the way through isn't it... not just the start.

Gigging bassists... how many basses do you own?
CamdenRob replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
I can only really take one bass to gigs as I generally get there on the tube... I'd like to take two but those double gig bags look damn heavy. I currently own three but only play two and one is for sale... When the new Wal arrives I will hopefully get down to just two basses again, one fretted and one fretless sixer ...On a related note, it's a good job i don't own a van and get to gigs / rehearsals that way or I'd definitely be buying a Glockenklang BAC and 6x10... -
So, I guess on reflection I am indeed an 'old git' at age 31
Blimey you're an even younger old git than I am... -
a 4x10... I have absolutely no need for one and can't transport it anywhere, so it would basically be a large and inconvenient house ornament... but I still want one.

I've got on well with the CN210 if this is an improvement on that I'd be very interested

I used to boil strings all the time as a youngster when I was playing in slappy tappy new metal bands and wanted fresh strings for every gig / rehearsal... sadly I spent most of my money on weed at the time so had to make do with boiling my strings up instead of buying new ones.

The Next Generation Of Players To Inspire.....?
CamdenRob replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
I asked 22 year old music student son who is in a regularly gigging band what he thought of this. He said ... (1) It's not true. (2) Although it depends what you mean by 'band' music. (3) But I guess someone over 40 said it. I also asked him who inspired him. The answer was 'everyone I ever heard including the bad stuff'. 'Give me an example.' 'Pink Floyd'
Yes "band" music is far from dead it's just not appreciated by the general populace to the level it was in the 60s and 70s. There are still some massive stadium filling bands but nowhere near the number there have been in the past. A music student is bound to be inspired by the players that influenced him, but I'd imagine that the great players of the past inspired people to take up the bass despite them not having an interest in playing an instrument until that point. There must have been a fair few... "wow, what is that sound the guy with the long guitar is making... I'd like me some of that" and a budding bass player was born. Most young people outside of musicians listen to electronic based music or x factor style "bearded man with an acoustic" type stuff... none of that contains a bass guitar, so it's not going to have the same effect of inspiring someone to pick up the bass that the popular bands of old did. Having said that, the "bearded man with an acoustic" type stuff is really visible right now... every coffee shop around here has a full bill of this type of stuff every night. So live music is out there and inspiring the next generation to take up and instrument and play... it just won't be the bass guitar. -
The Next Generation Of Players To Inspire.....?
CamdenRob replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
"band" based music really isn't that popular anymore (among the under 40s) compared to the 60s, 70s and 80s so there isn't a whole lot of high profile bass players around to inspire anyone kids are far more likely to be inspired by DJs etc. playing the music they like -
Can't say I've named any of my gear

Following specs shamelessly copied and pasted from a well known bass stuff website... Frequency Response: 45Hz to 5.5KHz Size:15.0H x 12.5W x 11.0D Weight: 17lbs Configuration: 1 x 10"dual concentric driver Woofer: Proprietary EA 10 Neodymium with Whizzer cone Sensitivity: 102dB @ 1m Sound Pressure: 126dB @ 1m Power Handling: 250 watts rms Impedance: 4 ohms Connection Type: Two SPEAKON Jacks Handle: One moulded Strap Handle on Side These are great little cabs and paired with an MB200 this one has served me proud when gigging with a quite drummer in acoustic type settings. Really small, really light and actually makes your bass sound like a bass, not all honky and horrible like many small cabs. Only moving this on as my current 210 setup is easy enough to move about on public transport and I'm still thinking about going back to a 2 x 112 arrangement and if that happens I'd just use one of those instead. Not mint but not scruffy either, gigged but well looked after [s]£250[/s] [s]£200 [/s]£180 collected from Camden NW1

Roscoe Century Standard 6 Fretless - Traded *Please Lock*
Could you please give me the weight of this bass ?
According to my bathroom scales it weighs 9lb 12oz... although they were pretty shaky... When I locate my luggage scales I will give a more accurate measurement. It's pretty light for a sixer anyway -
Having lived with a berg cn210 for a while now, I'm coming round to the idea that it is enough for my needs (as a monitor live and on its own for rehearsals). I would want to add another if I was gigging without PA support though.

Only up trade would be for a Wal pro2 or pro2e, for which I can add a grand or so depending on condition. It’s a fantastic bass and ticks all the boxes; light, sounds great, versatile, great action and balance. The only issue for me is that it isn’t a Wal and therefore doesn't sound like one… That’s not the Roscoe’s fault and it needs to go to a home where it can be appreciated. Couple of things to note, there are a couple of dings, nothing major but the bass isn’t pristine, it has been played and secondly, the pots are a little scratchy, again nothing major and I assume easy to rectify. These minor issues are reflected in the price which is the same as I paid for it and is pretty good really all things considered. Comes with a rather fetching Grey Roscoe branded gigbag. You are more than welcome to pop round and try the bass, I make an excellent cup of tea and have a well stocked beer fridge if that's more your thing Collection only from Camden NW1

So Gumtree Does Work For Finding Bandmates
I would add a massive +1 for ACG.
A big tick in the ACG box is the option of the in house designed and built multicoil pickups. I'd say it's the pickups more so than the preamp that are responsible for the Wal tone. ... not that ACG are building Wal clones, you'd have a whole plethora of custom options there besides the pickups
