"Boys Night Out" Is This The New Niche For Bands?
CamdenRob replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure we've done this thread before. Some people like doing lots of gigs - others don't... ... life goes on. -
I too wondered what OM was. I figured it out after the first post. The couple I've been to seem to just be singer/songwriter type things, with singer/songwriters playing acoustic guitar singing about the usual.
Yeah thats been my experience as well, a succession of leftie intellectuals with acoustics, whinging about something or other over a few open chords... nights where people get up and play together seem to be advertised as "jam nights" around here.
All for £700 including shipping. When I look around and see what else is on offer for that sort of money, it blows my mind.
That really is a good deal

Been a hell of a lot of Maruszczyk action round these parts recently... and I can see why it looks like they are on to a good thing with custom builds at a decent price and short build time

SOLD - £600 SHIPPED- Glockenklang Blue Soul + Case
CamdenRob replied to GeorgeL94's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Never really changed the amps EQ setting's because the pure sound itself is so hard to improve on.
Couldn't agree more... I've been using the Blue Soul exclusively for just over a year now and I don't even have the EQ switched in. I just plug in, adjust the gain and away I go. Shouldn't have too much trouble selling this -
No basses at the moment but I've got GAS for the new Mesa Subway class D and a pair of their new NEO 112s... even though I'm perfectly happy with my current rig and I know from experience that a 2x 112 setup is no use to me, as I can't transport it anywhere damn GAS...

Bought a Roscoe fretless sixer from Antonio. Arrived exactly as described and better packaged than any bass I have received before. Great comms and sent the bass out straight away after my payment had cleared I appreciate for UK based BCers there is a little hesitation with sending money to the continent on trust but rest assured Antonio is stand up guy Deal with confidence. Now if I could just justify that Sei sixer he has up...

Looks awesome

Bass-lead-amp for me

I haven't heard anything from the latest album but I quite like the odd song of her's I've overheard on the Radio in shops etc. over the last few years... She's a cut above most of the other stuff in the charts.
I found a Charlotte and the harlot t shirt , covered in paint which I still use when painting the flat
Every man has a dedicated painting t shirt which usually lasts his entire life... mine is a Hull FC rugby shirt... no idea where it came from.

The advantages would be a bigger buyer pool if you put it up somewhere like Bass Direct or The Gallery, also people get to try it out... the disadvantage is obviously they will be putting 20 odd % on top. Seems a great shame to part with a bass you love... I know other things in life come first and they are only bass guitars at the end of the day, but you may live to regret parting with it only to find you can't buy a similar one in the future when finances have improved. I've bought / sold a few sixers on here and obviously you are dealing with a smaller market than four strings / fender shapes but stuff does still move. Modulus are well known as a quality brand so I would imagin you won't have too much trouble shifting it may have to trade a few times to get something of similar value that would be easier to sell though.

How much does it weigh?
That's an apples and oranges comparison you're asking for. ACG are entirely hand build with custom pickups, electronics and hardware... Cataldo look interesting for what they are but I'd lump them in with Limelight in that, to an extent, they're bitsas. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with that (I've considered a JAEbird, a Limelight and ACG in the recent past - the ACG won and the wait is getting tougher!) just not the same craft involved. Just my humble opinion...
This is the real issue in my book. There are custom builders who put instruments together from other manufacturers parts (nothing wrong with that as you say) and there are custom builders who create their own instruments, something different from instruments available elsewhere, by using their own pickups, preamps, body shapes, construction techniques etc... ACG (along with Wal, Gus et al.) fall frimly into the latter catagory... you will be getting an instrument that you cannot get from anyone else
I use my Levy's on the NYC subway and, yes, it's very heavy to carry two basses on one's back but for gigs where I need a fretted and a fretless, I know of no easier way to do it. Carrying two separate cases is, IMO/IME, even more cumbersome. The backpack straps definitely help, and the more modern bags have much better padding in the straps, which offsets their extra weight to some extent. I think the Mono probably has the edge in terms of weight:comfort. No matter the bag, carrying two basses is a bear. It's just a question of which bear you want to strap to your back. If I'm not mistaken, Fusion bags have not only backpack straps, but also a hip belt to help distribute the weight better. That seems like an excellent solution to me. I would love to try one of those out, but they're very hard to find here in the States.
Yes I'm in the same boat as you, wanting to take both fretted and fretless basses to gigs / rehearsals. I also currently take a little trolly with my head / cab... I need to try and sort something out, might be time to have another go at dual gigbags. Perhaps I'll try the new Fusion one...

Beacuse you won't find a better value fully custom built bass guitar ACG can make pretty much anything you want... the real question is do you know what you want?

Haven't played the bass for months ..
CamdenRob replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Unless you have a specific attachment to any of them, I'd move the basses on Ray. Just keep the one you like the best Can use the money to get that new iMac and recording software -
I guess it depends if this is to get around on the tube and public transport or simply into and out of a car for gigs and rehearsals...
Yes I think that's the crux of it... I'm always travling to gigs / rehearsals etc on the tube.
-
I was looking at these a little while back and came to the conclusion that when loaded with two bases it would be too heavy to carry and therefore of limited use...

When I go to see my next big gig ...
I avoid this kind of problem by only seeing really unpopular bands
I avoid this kind of problem by not seeing any bands -

Depends how much you have to pay for them -
Update on the Spector... Yeah love it. Would recommend them to anyone, the range of sounds available with the independent volume knobs for the pups is amazing. Great punchy b string and it's pretty to look at. Chuffed really. I'd give one a shot if I were you. The thing is I changed from a stingray and I can still get a zingy stingray sound (almost anyway.) really is a lot of bass for the cost. My only negative really is the gloss finish on the neck makes it a bit grippy with sweaty hands: never played with a gloss finish before and might consider sanding the gloss away if i keep getting caught up.
Glad you're happy with it My legend sixer had a natural neck finish... the gloss must be a new thing

How long do your new strings retain their twang?
CamdenRob replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. A lot of people keep two sets on the go. This way, there is always a clean set ready, when the other is due to be cleaned.
Now that is a good idea... -
Soak them overnight is some mentholated spirit. Leave to dry for a couple of hours, wipe down, and you're good to go for a while longer. To help maintain the brightness, wipe down the strings after playing, with a cloth moistened with mentholated spirit. Be sure to put something under the strings (some plastic..for example) to protect the fret board.
Yes I think wiping them down could be a plan, I'll give that a whirl... bit of a faff taking them off to clean them!
coated strings are supposed to overcome the problem of gunk and sweat clogging up the strings (which is why cleaning them brings back the zing), I've always found they cost more but last a lot lot longer, I started using Elixir nonowebs which are great but have moved on to DR neons because I like the colours, (it's all part of the show)
I don't think you can get Elixirs in a six string set? I had a set of Red DR neons a while back on a jazz bass I liked very much... I didn't like the yellow guitar strings I tried though... they were truly awful.
