Shameless plug laced with well meant opinion!... I have a Precision Lyte for sale at the moment - one of two that have been for sale in the classifieds for weeks, Mojobass is selling the other. These are active, P/J, Jazz neck and somewhere between 7 to 7.5lbs in weight. Proper Japanese quality Fenders for Squier money. The P pup is similar to but not exactly like a Precision, the Jazz similarly not exactly like a Jazz. The blend between them is a very nice dark but burpy tone.
The bass player in my metal band has one of these and uses if for everything from hardcore to reggae... sounds great and weighs about as much as a post-it note.

Do anyone elses Vanderkley cabs smell of curry? seems to be a bit of an esoteric design feature...

Great stuff so glad you've found what you're looking for in the end.

Some very light ibanez basses out there if you fancy something modern sounding? The L2000 is very versatile and will be difficult to replace like for like.

Forget clean - what would you look for in a filthy cab?
I'd look for a clean powerful rig and add the "dirt" with pedals etc.
Yeah that's got to be the best approach. The idea of a clean rig is one that reproduces what you put in.. be that Hi Fi or Old School. -

This is regularly said about one of my bands, but I can't understand it as the other guys all seem OK to me.... -
I'm always surrised a 210 could be considered enough, but you have to hear these in context. Volume wise, maybe... tone is another question as you are asking a lot of the cab.
To be honest, i've not tried it at a gig without PA support. I have this setup out of necessity and it's OK for rehearsals, I can hear myself and it's nice and clean and deep. I think I'd want another though if I was gigging without PA support.

I don't really know about how loud the various wattages are supposed to be, but I do have personal experience with my current gear obviously. For a loud rock band rehearsal the MB200 into a 8ohm berg cn210 isn't enough, but my Glockenklang (pushing 350 watts @ 8ohm) into the same cab has plenty to spare, I usually have the master set just over halfway. If I was to need a full fat rig for any situation I'd just add another cn210 and I can't imagine that ever wouldn't be enough. The advantage of the MB200 is that it is tiny, sounds great, and through a wizzy10 is loud enough for anything without drums.

Patience and learning when it comes to basses and GAS
CamdenRob replied to LukeFRC's topic in Bass Guitars
I haven't learnt anything... I still want every nice bass I see regardless of whether it would be of any use to me -

Being a reader opens certain doors for you as a player that would be closed to a non reader... theatre work, cruise ship stuff etc. also, I'm guessing to a certain degree session work? I'm trying to learn to read dots, but only so I can write down my own basslines so I don't forget them... I never sight read anything as I never play anything someone else has written. I do know my theory though and could read a chord chart etc on the fly, i've just never practiced enough to be able to read dots fluently.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
CamdenRob replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
No, the D stamp is at the base of the neck where it joins the body.
oh I see... I think a few of mine had it there as well. -
I keep reading this thread title as "BEAD thoughts" and coming here to talk about four string tuning... ... also, play whatever instrument you like ... except for the bagpipes obviously

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
...Slight Chip out of the finish on the back, next to the neck plate,
Is that the D stamp? The D stamp was the only thing I could find wrong with a number of dekos I had a little while back... -
Reckon you could easily have the bass modded and modded back as necessary if you get a proper luthier to look at it. You're in Camden I assume, the guys are the bass gallery should be able to sort you out
Yes that's a possibility... Think i'll drop in and have a word with them at the weekend - they had it in last week as I had them fit a set of the new schaller ms4 light tuners - it's shaved nearly half a pound off the weight and they look virtually identical
Wow, that's exciting. Care to share some specs? Quick question though, if you need it now, how long will it take to appear? Could you tune your 4 string BEAD? Eude
No specs as yet, I'm just trying to see what the build time will be and if Paul's got the capacity to take it on right now. Last time I spoke to him he was concentrating on trying to get some stock instruments together. Definitely a matched headstock and edgelines like my MK1... I'm still thinking i'd like to go trans white, showing the grain, maybe over sycamore... early days though, I haven't actually placed an order yet. Yes I did think about tuning BEAD but I think i'd have to get a new nut etc and I'm wary of modifying it in anyway... In the meantime I think the chances of a fretless sixer becoming available are zero so I may have to trade the MK1 for a fiver...
-
At least you should have plenty of time to save up
Yes indeed... I'll probably have to move the MK1 on to pay for it, which is a shame as it's a wonderful bass.... I just need to be practical about it, I need the low B. Chances of finding a used fretless sixer are non existant so I'm going to have to go new...
-
I've discovered I need a fretless with a low B for my new project... I'm having to choose which songs to play fretless on based on which key they are in rather than which song I actually want to play fretless on... There is but one solution... I've emailed Paul about building me a fretless sixer
You could always sing Oasis covers (assuming that it's the right 10 semitones of course)
You wouldn't even need the right ones for Oasis covers...
