1.
Loads more info here if you're interested... http://walbasshistory.blogspot.co.uk They came in a floral finish too... ;-)
Have you ever player one Trevor? or know anyone who has one?
 2.
Humm, no idea to be honest. I used to know James that ran it back around 1999 but I've not seen him in years. Only just moved back to Essex so I'm a little out of touch with the scene around here right now.
Yes I haven't been there since James ran it back in the day... nice guy... built some nice guitars too.
 3. I would love to use a fridge at every gig / rehearsal but I can't transport it or store it so I haven't got one... amplification is often a compromise.
 4.
Pioneer Studios in Colchester where I practice...
Is legend studios still going in colchester round the back of rollerworld?
 5. Not heard a bad word about them
 6. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours bass.... but thou art permitted to ask how heavy it is.
 7. Am I really the only one that would use a P bass for rock covers? I'd want to be using the bass 90% of the songs I was replicating were recorded on.
 8.
In 35 years of gigging I have never once been asked by either the band or the audience where my Fender bass was
Well yes but you're not playing dad rock covers in pubs, I've never been asked where my fender is either...
 9. It's difficult regarding the whole people talking over the music thing... I'm in two minds about it. Your music should gain and hold peoples attention... You can't demand everyone be silent and behold your amazing musicianship if no-one is interested. it's different if someone is ruining other peoples enjoyment of the music being played and they should be told (by the venue) to keep it down, but if no-one is interested and everyone would rather have a good old chat to their mates then there isn't a whole lot can be done about it. I have a mate who plays folky blues stuff, she's excellent but it's quiet and acoustic and the promoter always ends up shushing people and telling them to be quiet and respect the music etc... I don't really buy it. It smacks to me of "Thou shalt be silent and recognise my genius"
 10.
Oh dear
Yeah sorry it was early and I hadn't had any coffee at that point...
 11. You could always get a fretted one and have it defretted? It would have lines by default....
 12. I know property prices are ridiculous in London right now but living in a flightcase seems a bit extreme...
 13.
Hijacked by the Wal brigade! Is it not enough that you guys have your own It's the "I don't care, I love the way Wal basses sound" thread... without using a crowbar to wedge a Wal-related post into every other thread!
Yes BC has become a bit of a Wal fest recently... Even I as an ardent fanboi am running out of things to say about them! BC goes through phases like this though, it'll be another brand next week we're all talking about and Wal will fall into the background for a bit.
 14.
No Rob, I don't get that at all. I've always found my Wals to be hugely versatile and able to fit into any playing situation. That includes playing folk, pop/rock/soul covers, rock musicals and modern worship. I've never really found a situation where I couldn't dial in a sympathetic or appropriate tone. The covers band I used to play in covers a wide range of styles from Britpop to Motown, Beatles to Laurel Canyon singer songwriter, rock to easy listening, rock and roll to white reggae. I was able to dial up all sorts of tones from varying pickup blend and tone settings, plucking position and whatever. At one wedding we did a kid came up after one of the sets asking what effects I was using. He really liked the different tones I was getting. The only pedals I had were a Boss TU2 tuner and a Lehle 3@1 switching pedal to switch between my two basses. All the different sounds were just from altering pickup choice, tone settings and playing technique. Lots and lots of different gig friendly sounds hiding inside a Wal when you know where to look for them..
Fair enough I use mine for everything too... I have too I only own wal basses! Although I still reckon if I was playing dog and duck stuff I'd go for a nice P bass, a lull or something similar probably. Not that that is ever likely to happen so it's a bit of a moot point anyway really...
 15. Hi and welcome Different pickups give very different tones... What sort of music are you playing and what type of tone are you after?
 16. Do you remeber the serial number of yours KB?
 17.
What's JG? Probably something obvious and I'm now looking like a wally...
It was Wals first full production model in the late 70s, had a fetching leather scratchplate. Named after the first guy to order one john gustafson I beleive... i think they only made 46 (or maybe 48?). Quite a few notable names amongst the original owners as shown on this list from Trevors website.
 18.
the best one I've ever played is a Sandberg, that I got secondhand from this site for something like 400 quid years ago.
Result
 19. Anyone know if this is on ebay yet? Honest seller though... he even rebuked my cheeky higher bid
 20.
Doc Stingray & Rob Afraid I've got it worse cause I'd like my JG back. Normally I convince myself I don't mind selling it,other times who the hell am I trying to kid
It's difficult isn't it... decisions get made for whatever reason at various points in life we later come to regret for whatever reason.. I've made loads! Not alot we can do about it and life goes on If you did still have it I'd make a tidy offer
 21.
Why on earth not? It's a bass, it will make bass noises in a pub rock band as well as any other bass.
Yes of course it would, but would the tone suit rock covers? Plus you'd have punters asking where your fender was after every gig. I'd go for P bass in that situation.
 22.
. Ideally I'd love a JG one
You and me both...
 23.
Just buy the albums Si
Pay for music What do you think this is, before the year 2000 or something? ... the very thought.
 24.
Spoiler alert - I told him it's worth in the region of £3,500
That's fair enough, it is... An older MK1, if everything checks out, probably around the £3k mark. He could certainly go for double his asking price if he was after a quick sale.
 25. Gotta be worth a look if you're in the area... If it checks out, a cheeky couple hundred extra might persuade the seller to save Mr Carlisle a trip tomorrow.
