I take my only fretted bass to gigs \ rehearsals etc... Taking the fretless today though as we've a few songs I think could benefit. I'm kind of hoping it doesn't work out, so that i dont have to lug two basses around with me from now on.
It has a hole on the bottom
Would they be OK stacked vertically then, or would that be an issue?
Surely anyone who works from home has to be disciplined otherwise they'd all lay in bed all day and get nothing done.
This is why I'm not allowed to work from home...

Ever had a cheapo bass that you just keep going back to?
.Cases in point, a Harley Benton 335 copy has become my main gigging guitar! It's replaced my amazing fender...
You will probably find that quality of materials aside, the process involved in manufacturing the Fender and the Harley Benton are not that disimilar... -
The Bass Gallery - Excellent refret jobs!

Yes Martin certainly knows what he's doing... I've always used him for any work I need doing on basses and guitars. You've only got to look at the basses he makes to see the standard of his workmanship. -
Maybe. It only goes up to 14Kg. What about Wal owners?

That's really good to hear. Gives me hope. There's naff all money so it should be what gets your pulse racing. After not writing a song for nearly a year I have a head full of ideas know I know what I want to do. I am just about to start bashing them out. I've a dozen or so incredibly obscure covers chosen to get the project going too.
You'll be surprised how many people want to be a part of it... I stuck a couple of demo tunes up on sound cloud and put out a gumtree ad and ended up auditioning ten singers... I actually ended up going with the first drummer and bassist that I tried as they were great guys with a similar outlook. I had to pull the ad in the end as I had more people wanting to audition that I could deal with... and my demo tracks were rubbish. It seems there are loads of people wanting to play originals but very few actually setting something up from scratch. Putting your own band together really is creating new music that was not there before... good stuff

Yep.. gigging is what it's all about for me. Playing music I've written (or had a part in writing) and watching people enjoy it is a great feeling.

Six pints and a couple of jagerbombs before hand will settle the nerves and ensure a professional performance...
Well, it's not an 'official' bash, just two or three of us in a wee rehearsal space, the bigger bashes would let you meet a lot more folks and try a lot more gear out, but seeing as you have something quite specific, it's probably a very good opportunity for you if it'll fit. Eude
yeah it sounds perfect as the exact rig I'm interested in will be there... I'll bring the Wals.
Well of we do do it in Surrey, I'll be driving from near Sanderstead train station, so if you can get to me, I can drive from there. Eude
I've never actually made a BC bash so it's about time I managed to get to one... Let me know if and when you guys are organising it for and I'll hopefully be along
They are a 12, but they're not exactly huge, and they're incredibly light. I have a mini rig, 2 x 1x10 Ashdown Mi10's and a G3 Compact drawing 8 ohms from my amp was louder than the two little cabs together drawing 4 ohms. The newer G3 cabs don't have the barky abrasive sound I heard in the older stuff, much more balanced. Might be worth investigating... Merton and I will be having another mini-bash in darkest Surrey or possibly South Croydon again soon if you want to pop along to have a go/listen? Eude
Sounds promissing with a more balanced sound... Let me know about the mini bash. Anywhere I can get to on a train easilly is doable
I heard both the Retro 210 and the G3 Compact recently, with an all valve Ashdown CTM-30 and an Ashdown RM-800. If you want HiFi, I reckon you should probably look to the G3 Compact. Eude
The compact is a 12 isn't it? I was mostly tempted by these because of the tiny size... I appreciate there is always going to be a compromise and it's not going to sound like an 8x10, but I'm really looking for the lightest, smallest rig I can possibly get away with. I sold my excellent Purple Chili 112s and got a berg 210, which is easier to manoeuvre around on a trolly, but a pair of these would be even easier. I only really need a rig for rehearsals and as a monitor at gigs, but as it's my sole sound source at rehearsals I want it to sound good and full, with enough bottom end.
I haven't tried the EA dizzy, I've only A/B the cabs with a Barefaced S12, and in comparison I found them to be creamier/smoother. I didn't think they were as direct as the s12, by that I mean faithfully reproducing what the amp was putting out, but they subtly coloured the sound in a way I liked. Warm, smooth and creamy. There were no noticeable peaks in the mids, and the bottom end sounded full. IMO - I can't disagree with what the Barefaced website says about the sound - "Tone - Big, warm and fat. Don't let the size deceive you. Sweet treble and smooth mids. Push it hard and it gets growly and thick." With regards to portability, I use public transport when ever possible and can take one cab and the TH500 in a cajon bag, with bass on my back, or I use a trolley for both cabs and amp (whichever I'm using). The easiest / most portable and capable set up I've had.
Thanks for that, always good to get some first hand knowledge from people actually using the setup. I think I'm going to have to hear a set for myself... I worry a bit as a lot of barefaced users seem to be the P bass / valve amp type guys and I'm much more of a HiFi deep and bright tone kinda guy, no break up, very clean sound. I'm using Glockenklang / Bergantino currently. I know barefaced do an excellent trial period but I'd feel very cheeky sending stuff back they've made specifically to fullfil my order. I see from your location you're in kent... any gigs in london coming up I could pop along to and hear the rig for myself in a real band situation?
-
What's the tone like with these? I must admit the idea of having a pair of these to replace my 210 would make things even eaiser for me getting around on the London transport system... I could have one in each hand, a micro head in my gigbag and ditch the trolly I currently use. I've always given barefaced a bit of a wide berth after trying a compac / midget set up a couple of years back and it sounded awful... loud... louder than any other cabs I've tried with the same amp but the tone was terrible. All honk and no clarity at the bottom end. The bottom end was there but very wooly and fuzzy. I like loud... but not at the expense of good tone. If these sound anything like an EA wizzy a pair of these could be the ultimate portable rig solution.
Got in touch with a singer/gutarist/songwriter just down the road from me in Hanwell W7. Really good songs. Lots of interesting bits in them. Has a good drummer already on board. Played through three songs last night. He has plenty more. The songs are thoughtful and soulful. Plenty of space for dynamics and well crafted. Wants to do some interesting covers too. The guys are lovely. I thought I would be up for the challenge. But...I was really having to rein myself in all the time. The tempo felt too slow comparted to what I'm used to and none of them started 1-2-3-4. I now know what I want and it's a really tight 60s garage mixed with punk full on rock and roll band. So I will start recruiting for that. I don't want to waste their time while I'm waiting for that to happen so I had to write the 'thanks but no thanks' email this morning. I feel like I've drowned a kitten. Everything was a good fit apart from the music. If anyone is interested in filling the low end slot I can pass your details on. Would suit a melodic player with a bit of Motown in them I would think. A very interesting project to work on and two lovely blokes to play with. Ah well. Onwards and punkwards.
Good luck to you... sometimes there is no option but to put it all together yourself. I did the same thing last year. I was looking for a hardcore metal band to do on the side or my main projects, playing the specific stuff I was into. But after alot of searching, auditions etc nothing quite felt right.... In the end I bought a guitar, wrote a set of material and held auditions to fill bass, drum and vocal duties. I've got a great bunch of guys together now all going in the same direction with the music... hopefully gigging in a month or so.

Poll, how many many basses have you got?
Hovering around the Dekos though, I must stop
Yeah don't get started on those it's a downward spiral... I bought five in a month -
I don't really like talking to people I know, so there is absolutely no chance of me walking up to a stranger and engaging them in conversation.. Just thinking about it is making me feel uneasy...

Oh I have a couple of guitars as well but surely they don't count? They are so thin and weedy... If I have to include them then 2 guitars = 1 bass
